This is a fantastic tip. Just doing this absolutely frees up my golf swing. I struggle with trying to control and force myself into all the classic pro positions. But doing this and “losing control to gain control” is gold. The only thing I felt with this is that the club head still felt awkward and imbalanced going through the “swoosh” zone through to finish. But, when I consciously “dropped” the club from the top (using gravity) to get into the slot before “swooshing” there is literally no resistance from the club head and it travels without resistance and very stable through the swoosh zone to finish. Thank you for the video.
Really amazing work, Steve! Totally agree with all you are teaching and thanks for making my game WAY better! Come on up to British Columbia and I'll take you out for a round and some BC IPAs!
Thank you for the lightbulb moment Steve. The headline wasn’t disappointing! All the videos i watched so far were not able to explain the mechanics that easy way. Cannot wait to try that out on the range.
This couldn’t be more wrong. The pros do it because they can. They are the best in the world. You gain speed from your legs and faster rotation. Not wrist hinge. Do not listen to this guy. Trying to snap your wrist to gain speed will ruin your game. Maybe hit it further… but you’ll never know where the ball is going.
People need to understand that Mike, at this point, was just a typical grumpy old guy. When you've had a stroke and you're getting older, everything you do just takes so much effort. It's frustrating for him that the student is not getting it. Some of my best memories from my teen years were when I used to climb up in a tree and cut limbs for a WWI veteran. He was such a good-natured and kind old gentleman, but he would stand below me and curse and yell at me the whole time. Noo, not that one G. Damit. This one here. No over here he would yell, sending me back to the original one. I would go home and tell my Dad about it, and we'd laugh for hours. Great times.
great video, but I did not understand the point you were making starting at 6:08. When you bring the club back down are you supposed to bring it down with the club more vertical?
More more more on release. At 60 yrs old we did not have the info out here now. The worst thing the media did was show us the lag in still frame. That made me hang on for dear life n never truly release naturally. Still have issues with this cuz it feels like flipping to me. When i can release around corner ball flight a bit lower n longer distance... ty for your lessons!
For years I used the torso tilt, without the hip bump to the leading side as you've shown. My right arm is dialed in, just as you've shown. My problem up to this point is that, while I'm making a good number of fairways, my consistency is off. I'm now wondering if the hip bump could be the missing link to me making more fairways consistently - at least I'd likely have more clearance on my trail (right) side to make the proper turn consistently. I'm definitely going to try this adjustment tomorrow at the range. Thanks again Steve!
Another great video...That unwinding at the top is an eye opener...something that I'm missing...I tend to get steep and this "FEELS"...like a big help with the shallowing...
thanks I'm a lefty so now when i watch phil slow motion swing i can feel what he is doing...ive been pulling and using my arms now i know how to slap ball using the BODY!!
You need a golf ball with good stopping power in an Australian summer. I'm only a 90 mph swing speed with driver guy, but I have shot my lowest scores (by some margin) with the Bridgestone Tour B XS, Chrome Soft X and Titleist Pro V1x. Yes, I have played their lower compression siblings a lot and their long game is great, but they ain't stopping on the greens here in summer. Matching swing speed to a certain golf ball doesn't work for me.
I’m as beginner as beginner can be, and short and sweet videos like this are incredible for people in my same boat. I can’t wait to test this out later at the driving range.
