I grew up with Minecraft, like a lot of the fans, and although I do not play it much anymore, I am still the one who has to take my kids to see it, or choose not to. So why shouldn't it be for us as well? And why is garbage excusable simply because it's for children? At the end of the day, you need to sell the parents to get the kids, regardless of the fact that a lot of us are the OG Minecraft fans who realize this is just a quick cash grab. This is just further proof that journalists only exist to be contrarian to the consumer.
the only reasonable way to justify the visuals as being a kids movie is "kids would be more likely to find the mildly gross visuals funny" which is still a pretty shitty reason
At this point we really don't need a Minecraft Movie especially one as lame as this one when channels like Squared Media have provided some of the most peak-cinema MC-animations over the past 10 years or so.
the article red flag (for me) is that he said his kid was 'entertained' by the trailer. not that they enjoyed it, or loved it, or wanted to talk about it, but _entertained_ by it, as if it was the flashiest pair of jingling keys that ever existed. just, you know, with current day movie ticket prices.
Y'all are going to hate me but I don't actually think the Minecraft movie looks bad, I think it has a bad lighting problem and has a bad editing problem. It feels like the trailer is. I don't hate the independent CGI and I also don't hate the live-action sets I just hate the way they look on the same stage it's like they weren't blended correctly in post.
I always say that movies in general should be done well. Great script, great visuals, great messages. A film that's meant to inspire and bring any positive emotion by the end of the film. As a kid, I frickin loved treasure planet, I still do and watch it so many times! It was the same with Tinkerbell or the Barbie movies. They are still fantastic movies that still hold up today and they are memorable movies that people still watch, and they carry good messages about friendship, love and family. I just absolutely hate it when I see movies that have half- assed scripts and visuals, where the story barely makes much sense or the message is wack, and people say "oh it's just a kids movie, they're not going to understand, they are kids after all" It's stupid. Because then the kids will grow up thinking that that's what a good story/ movie should be like. Overall, I think they missed a great opportunity making an animated minecraft movie about Steve, or it could even be about a different character. No famous actors needed for the role, and definitely no live action. You could think of a million stories! Could be about Steve/ different character who somehow ends up becoming friends with an enderman, and they venture out, fighting mobs, visiting lands and finding something they shouldn't have. And in the middle of the story the enderman and the character have an argument and their friendship falls apart (I wonder how an enderman who doesn't talk would argue?), but then they make up at the end of the film. It's just a quick and random Idea, but it would be so fire to see something like that as a movie.
Since You kept asking despite it being the first thing the article says, I’ll re-iterate for you, Minecraft wasn’t aimed at kids until it blew up online and like anything that popular was made to become for kids, not notch nor Jeb nor any other pre-Microsoft buying Minecraft employees wanted to make a kids game really, and yes Microsoft did shift down the target demographic, but Minecraft was never conceived as a children’s game, and wasn’t a kids game until it had already been hugely popular for years.
Why does the fact that something that is “made for kids” allow it to be bad? As a kid I knew the difference between good and bad animation. Why couldn’t they just get captain sparkles and tryhardninja to do make the movie since they obviously didn’t want to or care

Right now it looks like one of those lazy ass movies that just takes characters living in the real world and send them into a universe loosely based on the game. I think this movie would have been better off if it had based itself around Minecraft Story mode, or pulled something similar to it.

Two things: 1, GOOD kids movies/shows appealled to both kids and adults. Take Goofy movie. As a kid, I enjoyed it, and understood Max. As an adult, I still love it, and I understand Goofy. Appealling to both spectrum ensures this. 2, even if they HAD to do live action, they couldve done a Code Lyoko type situstion. That wouldve gone far better than this monstrosity.
The article is made by some rich guy who does reviews for children media quite ironic from him saying that form a guy who has to consume such "for kids" content bet most outta touch boomers see finger family stuff as children entertainment...don't worry your child will be a find well adjusted adult...
3:03 Bro Hollywood has billions of dollars and word about a Minecraft movie got out after Notch sold Minecraft to Microsoft which was 10 years ago. Warner Bros has literally 0 excuses and with all of their billions of dollars in revenue they could have surpassed even the best Minecraft RU-vidr animation. Like literally bro, these animations were done by people in their bedrooms just having fun, now imagine an entire studio being funded by Warner bros? All they had to do was an animated Minecraft movie, why is that so hard? Why does everything need to be a live action? Why can’t things just be the way they are? Not everything has to be live action. The fact that the explanation in the article for how kids are the target audience is a little strange. The justification that the author’s kid loves minecraft is that “he watches other people playing Minecraft on RU-vid.” I’m willing to bet that the majority if not all of those content creators are adults who love the game just as much. Then, “he makes three block jumps with a deftness I couldn’t hope to achieve on my PC, and yet manages on a touchscreen tablet.” I don’t mean to assume things here, but maybe that’s because he has actually become familiar with the game’s controls and has practiced lots? On reflection this doesn’t really make sense but if you know, you get what I mean
Using big names in a "kids movie" is honestly a long running thing in films. They brought in big name actors for the animated Transformers movie back in the eighties. Names that really wouldnt mean much to kids then. Honestly the film brings to mind the old Uwe Boll films. The actors look dead bored, and would rather be anywhere else.
I agree with CB the guy really is like flat earthers shoving own opinions even when they disproved themselves but still keep their opinions. The guy really didn't hear of bronies n for all family to watch or play. Opinions u know? There are like ppl that believe there is more good ppl, n others that there is more bad ppl, of the different experiences, but we don't really know, as there is not really a way to tell which is true. There are ppl smarter to keep their bad minds to themselves n sneakly manipulate. There is no way to tell what everyone thinks, just assume. Speaking for most ppl is really bad. Although, could have a poll on what ppl think of the movie, but again, not all ppl around the world will do it, so still it's ify. There's also the nostalgia of things, so could watch or replay a very childish thing's, just for nostalgic feeling. There's just lot wrong that I could argue too in that article. Lot comparisons n examples, trying to make them understand how he sound's. He really forgot their childhood, or never had it.
Kids deserve so much better, brain rot isn't something that should be given to kids, it's not good for them. A lot of kids dislike the Movie a lot as well, just because some kids like them means nothing. On top of that, Parents have to be with their Kids at the Movie, the Parents should be able to enjoy the Movie too, if they don't, a lot of Parents won't bother letting their Kids watch the Movie because they understand it's not good for a Kid to watch stuff like this. And the idea of a Movie still being good when you become an adult is really important. It doesn't have to be like some mainly adult kind of Movie, just actually good for all ages. There's a lot of Movies from my Childhood that i still love today. A Good Movie will always hold up well in the Future and also Not Dumb Down Children. That Writer was absolutely wild and I'm Concerned that they have a Kid if they think Brain Rot is somehow good for a Kid when it genuinely isn't. :/
I think you forget what a kids movie usually is. When I was a kid, most cartoons and family movies I watched were well made and were capable of entertaining both kids as well as adults, and it’s not just because of adult jokes or anything like that. This movie is genuinely not creative and it feels cheap in every way possible. If I was to write a Minecraft film, it would be about the development of a fully animated character, it could be Steve or it could be about someone but regardless. it should focus on the core aspects of what Minecraft *is* and maybe what its original story or about achieving the games original primary goal with developmental progress, maybe with a touch of reality towards the end where the player behind the computer grows up and sees his kid play the new and updated version of the game. There’s a lot of things that come to mind but what *doesn’t* come to mind is trapping a group of real life people in a completely fictional world and figuring out how to leave, a plot that has been rehashed since old films like Tron 1982. There are movies that inspired me to come up with a proper story for this example but they are *not* rehashed, films like the Lego Movie worked out incredibly well and were completely unique!
Having the word "Minecraft" in a sentence with "isn't meant for you" is just absolutely insane. Minecraft has always been a game for EVERYONE, that anyone of any age can enjoy. Trying to undermine something that is loved by people of all ages is just needless gatekeeping to try and invalidate genuine criticism and that's fuckin bullshit
I totally agree with this. Gamer kids grow into gamer adults, yeah we were kids when Minecraft started and now we aren't but that does not change the fact that we love MC just as much as kids who are just getting into MC who will also grow! I still love the games I grew up with as a kid that *was* indeed for kids; Pokemon, Minecraft, Mario, Sonic and I still fully enjoy those games when I go back to them 🗣🗣🗣
