Knowing Burr doesn't want to break down but can't help it, and that this little girl has to comfort her father even though he didn't fail her... it's a lot
As it was cut at the tail end of Hamilton's Off Broadway run, you can actually still see traces of Theodosia Reprise in the final choreo, like an extra in Blow Us All Away wearing Burr's clothes and Burr himself appearing in the ensemble for It's Quiet Uptown. The most damning piece I think is Burr being the only one at the end of The Reynolds Pamphlet still holding a piece of paper. He looks down to read it and his expression changes as he does. Then he's the last one to go offstage I speculate that this was the letter that told him Theodosia Sr was really really deathly ill, and Theodosia Reprise would have followed up on him getting the letter and telling his daughter
Funny thing! You know how Burr sorta "made jokes" about hamilton losing his child? Well only 2 years after he lost Theodosia (daughter) when she left to sea. Alexander really said "Bippity boppity boo your child will go poof"
I think the main issue is that it makes Alexander a lot less sympathetic, which isn’t great because Alexander is the ‘main character,’ but I agree, I wish these songs were in the actual musical so so so bad omg-
I hate people who say that Angelica would’ve been fine with Ham’s affair if it was with her. Like… no… She GAVE Ham UP for her sister, she would never hurt Eliza in that way. Angelica was so resilient and kind, always putting others first. Eliza and her are so very admirable.
Everyone is talking about how Theodosia also died before Burr when she was out at sea, but the saddest part is that she was on her way to visit her father.
Lyrics Dear Theodosia, how to say to you? Sometime last night, your mother breathed your name, and like a flame, it flickers out too soon, she died; she's gone She dedicated every day to you. She changed my life, she made my life worth while And when you smile, I know a part of her lives on- I know I can go on. You have come of age with our young nation. We bleed and fight for you Sometimes it seems thats all we do- but, You and I will build a strong foundation, And I'll be here for you. The way is clear for you to blow us all away, Someday, someday. Yeah, you'll blow us all away, Someday, someday.
