I think that Christian capitalism is a big problem in the west. Since the cold war, when supposedly capitalism defeated communism, capitalism has become an object of faith. And I see that faith transfered to certain political figures.

In the 1950s the answer to your questions in your intro was obvious. It’s a sad day for the modern biblically illiterate church most don’t know what the Great commission is. The gospel without the call to go is like playing football without the football. Or maybe it’s more like being on the third string being a benchwarmer.

According to Rev 11:19, perhaps the Ark is in Heaven? Of course, there are many opinions as to the correct interpretation of this verse in light of the figurative and symbolic language of Revelation. For example, does the verse refer to the "earthly" Ark?

Hi Josh, It's been awhile. Stayed up past 4 a.m. because I couldn't stop this podcast, and even think about getting to sleep, without hearing it all the way through. Excellent, thought provoking, discussion! Questions asked. Questions answered. Some that lead to even more questions. Being a Christian, responsible firearms owner, retired U.S. service member, constitutionalist, and a believer that everyone has a right to self-defense, and the defense of others, who are in harms way, you pretty much know where I stand on this topic. It made me think about the evolution of mankind, and the development of tools, such as firearms, and why God has allowed us to evolve, not just as people, but also the evolution of everything that we use in everyday life. From a fist, to a rock, to a sharp stick, sword and, now, fast-forward, to present day firearms, for self-defense and self-preservation. God's will? Free will? It's a lot to contemplate. I don't believe that, scripturally, God would not want us to defend ourselves, and others, using a modern day tool, like a firearm. He just doesn't want us to be an evil aggressor using those tools for a selfish, illegal, or unjust, purpose. We have to be responsible people, using all that He allows us to possess, and righteous in our use of those things. JMHO

One common reason people reject the Triune Godhead is because they conflate it with Modalism (the idea that God is one person who manifests in three different “modes”). They think that we (Trinitarians) are calling Yeshua (Jesus) the Father (which is false). I think that there has been fairly weak teaching in congregations across all denominations and movements on this subject, which is partially (but not totally) to blame.

Jesus is the firstborn of all creation (Colossians 1:15), repeated at Rev 3:14 “To the angel of the congregation in La·o·di·ceʹa write: These are the things that the Amen says, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation by God:” Is Jesus not the Amen? Proverbs 8:22 “Jehovah produced me as the beginning of his way, The earliest of his achievements of long ago.” Hmmm…..Jehovah produced me as the beginning of his way……. Who is the way? John 14:6 “Jesus said to him: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”” If Proverbs 8:22 isn’t talking about Jesus, then who is it talking about? Please continue with Proverbs 8:30 “Then I was beside him as a master worker. I was the one he was especially fond of day by day; I rejoiced before him all the time;” Who could this be? It sounds like God the Father, Jehovah, who has no beginning, first created the son (see above), then, the son, being God’s master worker (Contractor, sub-contractor, as it were😀), created everything else. John 1:3 “All things came into existence through him, and apart from him not even one thing came into existence.” I’m going to repeat Jesus’ words to Satan when he tried to tempt him at Matthew 4:10 “Then Jesus said to him: “Go away, Satan! For it is written: ‘It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service.’”” I reiterate, just as Jesus did, “HIM ALONE YOU MUST RENDER SACRED SERVICE”

It's interesting you point out that Jesus quoted Matthew 4:10, which forbids anyone worshipping any one other than the LORD. So if that's the case, why does Jesus not forbid his disciples from worshipping him in Matthew 14:33, Matthew 28:9, John 9:38, and John 20:28?

@@beardsandbiblepodcast9057 Obeisance isn’t always worship. In fact, if you google it, it literally translates to: ‘a gesture expressing deferential respect, such as a bow or curtsy.’ In the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament), when certain of Jehovah’s servants prostrated themselves before angels, they only did so as recognizing that these were God’s representatives, not as rendering obeisance to them as deities.-Josh. 5:13-15; Gen. 18:1-3. ... The Greek pro·sky·ne΄o corresponds closely with the Hebrew sha·hhah΄ as to conveying the thought of both obeisance to creatures and worship to God or a deity. John 20:28,29 Great scriptures. They are open to interpretation of course. Did Thomas call Jesus God? Or, did he bring attention or thanks to his lord Jesus and his Father(God)? Did Thomas look at Jesus when he said ‘my Lord’, then raise his eyes and maybe his hand to the sky when he said ‘my God’? No one knows. We weren’t there. Maybe this scripture will shed some light: 1 Corinthians 8:4-6 4 Now concerning the eating of food offered to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world and that there is no God but one. 5 For even though there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth, just as there are many “gods” and many “lords,” 6 there is actually to us one God, the Father, from whom all things are and we for him; and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things are and we through him. @@stevenwebb6253 in Revelation 22:9 an angel REFUSES "worship" (or as you say, not truly worship but "obeisance")- "But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your fellow prophets and with all who keep the words of this scroll. Worship God!” So if Jesus was just an angel (as you and your Jehovah's Witness friends state)- why did he never respond like that to "obeisance"? Also, to say that Thomas said, "my Lord!" to Jesus, and then, "My God!" to Jehovah is quite a creative stretch and an exercise in reading into the text what isn't there at all. The most straightforward, obvious reading of John 20:28-29 (and the most widely accepted one for 2,000 years of church history until Charles Taze Russell showed up around 1914 and perverted and twisted its meaning) was that Thomas was acknowledging Jesus' divinity. Explain to me what John 5:18 means- "For this reason they tried all the more to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself EQUAL with God." The text doesn't say that the Jews simply "thought" he was making himself equal to God (and it was all a giant misunderstanding because he actually is just an angel)- it the apostle John himself adding commentary that Jesus was making himself equal with God. Friend- I don't think you would EVER come to the conclusions that you've come to about these verses unless someone was in your ear indoctrinating you with twisted and strange interpretations of these scriptures. If you were on a desert island with just your Bible, there would no way you'd come to the ideas you've suggested and espoused. I want to encourage you to get outside of the JW's indoctrination and read the Bible for yourself. Jesus is fully God, and His sacrifice on the cross means so much more than what you've been told. I'm praying for you.

@@beardsandbiblepodcast9057 Thank you. I’m praying for you as well. Something to think about: If Jesus always existed, ie never created, why did the Father need to teach him? John 8:28 “Jesus then said: “After you have lifted up the Son of man, then you will know that I am he and that I do nothing of my own initiative; but just as the Father taught me, I speak these things.” Also, why is the son in subjection to the Father? 1 Corinthians 15:27,28 27 For God “subjected all things under his feet.” But when he says that ‘all things have been subjected,’ it is evident that this does not include the One who subjected all things to him. 28 But when all things will have been subjected to him, then the Son himself will also subject himself to the One who subjected all things to him, that God may be all things to everyone.”🤔🤔 NWT Nice chatting with you. 😁😁

Many of the problems are misunderstanding, misinterpretation and misapplication of The New Testament. The Ageless Wisdom Teachings state that Jesus and Christ are not the same person. Jesus was a highly spiritually evolved person who agreed that the Christ would overshadow him for Christ's teaching mission on Earth. Christ is the Son of God, manifested in the form of Jesus. Christ is the second aspect of the Trinity, that of Love. He is one with God. Christ was the fastest and first of the human race to achieve that* Christ is the Light of the world, the Embodiment of Love, and the Indicator of Divine Purpose. Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Light. The Christ is a Person, a Presence and a Principle. He is the same great Identity which those of different ideologies recognise under different names. He ignites the spark of Divinity within each human being for 'as He is so we can be in this world in the world' (New Testament). There is the cosmic Christ, the planetary Christ of history and the Christ in the human heart. There is God Transcendent (external to His created world) and God Immanent (within all forms, expressing divinity from within). 'You are gods in the making', (New Testament) 'From Bethlehem to Calvary' - the Initiations of Jesus, by Alice Bailey who founded The Lucis Trust**, is a marvellous, elucidating book, based on Jesus Christ's life and His mission/s and refers to, and quotes from the New Testament and explains the New Testament . Also, by Alice Bailey (as amanuensis for one of the spiritual Ascended Masters, Djwhal Khul/' 'The Tibetan') , the book 'The Reappearance of The Christ'. Alice Bailey was highly, spiritually evolved. * This involves reincarnation or rebirth. The Christian Roman Emperor Justinian1, had the references to reincarnation in the Christian scriptures removed and banned, at the Second Council of Constantinople in 553 CE. ** The Lucis Trust has a site on You Tube and it publishes the over 20 books by AB & DK.

If what you’re saying is even in the least bit remotely true- take just one of the scriptures discussed in this video and prove how it doesn’t say that Christ is divine. Over 20 scriptures are discussed in this video. You haven’t even addressed a single one of them, yet you’ve made the audacious claim that the scriptures have been misunderstood. Prove your position.

@beardsandbiblepodcast9057
@beardsandbiblepodcast9057 Год назад
@TheCanceledChristian Hi and thanks for your comment! Unfortunately, RU-vid has been deleting comments on this video before we've been able to get a chance to respond to them, so I hope you can still see this- Four answers/comments- 1) Your quote by Alexander Stephens, the vice president of the confederacy. Yes. He did say that and the full embrace of slavery and the system that enabled states to own slaves was a foundation of the Confederacy. Which was a deplorable and heinous thing. Slavery is wrong, was wrong, and will always be wrong. To my knowledge, we never denied that or embraced the "Lost Cause Myth" on the episode. Just curious- did you listen to the whole thing? 2) "How is this a topic on a Christian podcast?" Because thinking critically, logically, and Biblically about social issues is a necessary component of being a responsible thinker, which is important for us to do as Christians. In the states of Tennessee and Alabama (where we are), there are a lot of people who are Christians that are wrestling through the issue of what to do with the monuments. Just a few years ago, we had members of two white supremacist groups clash with Antifa demonstraters in the square in Murfreesboro over the issue of keeping or getting rid of confederate monuments. Many Christians were deeply concerned about this issue. On the episode, we wanted to provide a framework to think critically about this issue. Some of our listeners live in communities where there are many confederate monuments and statues, and many of them have had these conversations. Our desire was to give Christians a framework for how to think about these conversations through the lens of the gospel. 3) "The war is over". Yep. Thanks for that. And good for us that it is. Again- did you listen to the episode? Nothing on it suggests that the cause of the confederacy is one worth fighting for and resurrecting. But it did happen. So our question was, "how do we remember it and talk about it?" 4) "...trying to “explain” how the south wasn’t 100% on slavery is completely tone deaf to our brothers and sisters who are people of color." In order to address this, we have to first address two subpoints. Subpoint 1) "trying to explain how the south wasn't 100% on slavery" ...so we have ask to question: was the south 100% on slavery? Because if it was "100% on slavery", then you'd be right. It'd be an exercise in racist, revisionist history to remake what actually happened during the civil war on our podcast episode. But if it wasn't "100% on slavery", then we could talk about it objectively, logically and truthfully and think through what actually happened and what our response to the monument question might be today. So...was the south "100% on slavery"? This is a section taken from the U.S. National Park Service's website (which is a fairly reputable historical source) explaining the causes of the U.S. Civil War- “For more than 80 years, people in the Northern and Southern states had been debating the issues that ultimately led to war: economic policies and practices, cultural values, the extent and reach of the Federal government, and, most importantly, the role of slavery within American society. Against the backdrop of these larger issues, individual soldiers had their own reasons for fighting. Their motivations often included a complex mix of personal, social, economic and political values that didn't necessarily match the aims expressed by their respective governments.” From reading the historians that have Ph.D's in this topic, to say that slavery as a moral issue was the only thing the American Civil was fought over is a dramatic, absurd, and quite uninformed over simplification. Most historians would say that it was the economics of slavery and the political control of the system that gave states the rights to own slaves that was central to the conflict. History tells us that only around 20-25% of confederate soldiers owned slaves. So...it seems like 75-80% of the south WASN'T, "on slavery" in the sense that they owned slaves. So how many supported slavery as a practice? Probably a good many more than that. Was that wrong? Absolutely. 100%. 10/10. Wrong, deplorable, and absolutely evil. But it still happened. And most historians agree that many who fought had their own complex mix of motivations for fighting, some of which we can never know on this side of history. Subpoint 2) "To say that the south wasn't 100% on slavery is "tone-deaf" to our brothers and sisters who are people of color". But again, this goes back to the question we asked earlier. Was the south 100% on slavery? It seems like the history books and experts in the subject would say, "no". It wasn't. The Civil War was definitely fought over the issue of slavery, but to say that everyone in the north was on a moral crusade to free the slaves and everyone who fought for the south was a white supremacist is a bit ignorant and flat out wrong. Many of those who fought for the north did so reluctantly and only for the sake of preserving the union, and many of those who fought the south did so out of duty and protection of their home state. I've had many conversations about civil war history with friends of mine who are African American. And those of them who have read history, visited battlefields and are actually interested in seriously studying about the conflict know and understand the complex and diverse causes surrounding the issue of slavery that led to war in 1861-1865. My friend Kelvin (who is also from Georgia) has talked with me about this topic and there's never been the accusation of me or anyone else being "tone deaf" to talk about history in an objective manner and what to do with the confederate monuments. I also used to teach high school English and covered a lot of literature from this period. I had many African Americans students in my class that enjoyed exploring the historical backdrop behind a conflict that has shaped so much of the culture the Southeastern United States. To those friends of mine who are African American and are hurt and offended by the confederate monuments, flags, and statues- I stand with them in saying that we should take them down from city centers and public squares. But I don't think it's helpful in the least bit to not talk about objectively, honestly, and truthfully about what actually happened in history for fear of coming across as "tone deaf". I'd love to have a further discussion about this topic if you're interested, but first I recommend you actually listen to the episode in its entirety and maybe read up on a bit of history before coming in hot with accusations about things we never said. Either one of us would be happy to grab a cup of coffee and talk more if you're local. Take care, -Josh and Gabe

It was like listen to the Pharisee that was saying “I’m glad I’m not like that Publican”. I rarely heard sermons on how we might be in error but many sermons on what Methodist, Baptist, Catholics etc we’re doing wrong. Then in the 2000’s it was sermons against the government. I almost walked completely away from any church due to listening to that crap for 50yrs.

There are some older films (one example- Gigi) where the acting is so dramatic and kind of forced in my humble opinion that it automatically is labeled a comedy in my head. Also, I didn’t get all the way through it… but one of the silliest movies I recently came across is called “What’s Up, Doc?” With Barbara Streisand. Oh and last but not least- Pink Panther with Peter Sellers. Fun fact: I had a small crush on Inspector Clouseau growing up… for like five minutes. Love the quirkiness 😂…. Jenni! What an incredible heart of humility. For a heart to break at the thought of your own obedience bringing condemnation rather than reliance on Jesus... is that not the heart of Paul, Pharisee of Pharisees turned prisoner of Christ? Thank you for your example, not of abstinence before marriage, but of a heart most concerned with pointing to the finished work of the cross, kindness leading to repentance, love Himself leading to righteousness. What a challenge to me, a person especially prone to lack of care for the feelings of others, occasionally even under the guise of "the truth will offend", which is anti-Christ at its prideful root. I really recommend the book “Making of Biblical Womanhood” by Allison Beth Barr. Paul was actually fighting the patriarchy in that time. I deconstructed and what has kept my belief in Christianity was that God actually values woman and their leadership (junia, phoebe, and Priscilla, to name a few) whereas all other religions make woman less then (Mormonism, Islam, Amish, etc…) wouldn’t it make sense that Christianity be different and actually elevate woman (neither male nor female to quote Paul) Many many young people are leaving the faith entirely-especially woman. I think it would be great as a pastor to read the above mentioned book even so you can refute it better if you still disagree after reading!
