Although I was living in North Carolina at that time, I was strange for being into the neo-psychedelia in the 1980s as a teenager in northeastern North Carolina. In fact, it was almost totally isolating except about two hours away, Carol Taylor from WNOR in Norfolk, Virginia was a radio j-day into the 1980s Garage Rock subculture reviving the 1960s. I could easily blended in with those dancers from It's Happening. Life is strange like that....
For such a good band ive never heard of them here in australia . We had a station back in the 70s- 80s they played punk ,goth, new wave ectc . It was more the stooges ,clash ,sex pistols & the jam that were known here . Very good band sydney Australia 🦘 27/7/2024😮
It's got the hollow body so it's that acoustic warmth. Otherwise, the pick-ups are very bright. Cool guitar. Really cuts through on rhythm guitar. @@ryanhertzing8705
This is a trip! I went to a taping of one show in like 1983/84/85. There was a flyer for it on a telephone pole right by Pasadena City College where it was taped. I didn't know they actually aired anywhere. Still, today it's a gem of the 80s LA mod scene!
Shelly! I never met you in person but enjoyed chatting with you on FB Messenger! I just found out that you’re no longer with us and it really saddened me! R.I.P. my 60’s Punk Brother!
It’s hard to believe that this was in the mid-1980’s! The young folks here doing a good job in trying to recreate 1966! My heart and soul still til this day live in the years 1964-67. I know several of the people that were involved putting this on the air! It was probably a lot of fun!
It does look cool. If you look at actual teen shows from the 1960s, you can see that these 1980s kids don't do the dances right, hard as they try. The show was cool though. I used to watch it on community television in the late eighties.
@@colibri1 ….I know Audrey Moorhead, Mike Stax of Ugly Things Magazine, and I did correspond with the late Shelley Ganz. I grew up in Chicago in the 1960’s watching Kiddie A Go-Go, Swinging Majority, and Upbeat! These were all local dance shows from Chicago with the exception of Upbeat which was produced in Cleveland. They did “It’s Happening” very well and it was geared for the music of 1964-67. I would have enjoyed attending a taping because my heart and soul live in those years, 1964-67.
I was doing that myself here in North Carolina around that same time semi-aware of It's Happening, and I was made fun of for it. Of course, I didn't care what others think then nor now. It was fun....
R.I.P. to my partner in The Unclaimed, Shelley Ganz, who passed away on January 23, 2024. I was just looking through some of our recent correspondence and found this enthusiastic comment he had about "Maui Loon:" Just listened to: "Maui Loon"...Brilliant!! Exceptionally sophisticated, and Barbaric, and total, Uhh!! Very Kool.... Just listened to "Maui Loon", again...One of the best! Later, after seeing the video, his reactions were: I'm Speechless!! Pretty Dern Kooll!! Sounds Great=Looks Great!! Major Kool... ..Well Done!! Cheers!! & 2nd viewing, just as good! People need to see this...Great Tune, Great Video...Killer Combo!! Again... Well Done...CHEERS!!
Simply Amazing!!!! 😳😳😳. This Is the DEFINITIVE Unclaimed album ! The Unclaimed take the old good garage n roll and bring It to the next level .First from the sixties to the eighties and now a giant Jump to 2024 !!! All the songs on this album are masterpieces with some of them absolutely Diamonds!! Be a Hun Be a Hun and get primitive with the Unclaimed ! Ugh!😊👍
I remember going to the taping, it was at a community college, perhaps in Pasadena or the Valley? I had no idea the studio lights would be so hot. I never had a chance to see the show, so many thanks to the uploader and video editor!
The Unclaimed blows me away as always! Shelly you are like the Burt Bacharach of garage music ! Very cool song so fresh , new , and kool and so original 😍😍🙏
