Although I was living in North Carolina at that time, I was strange for being into the neo-psychedelia in the 1980s as a teenager in northeastern North Carolina. In fact, it was almost totally isolating except about two hours away, Carol Taylor from WNOR in Norfolk, Virginia was a radio j-day into the 1980s Garage Rock subculture reviving the 1960s. I could easily blended in with those dancers from It's Happening. Life is strange like that....
This is a trip! I went to a taping of one show in like 1983/84/85. There was a flyer for it on a telephone pole right by Pasadena City College where it was taped. I didn't know they actually aired anywhere. Still, today it's a gem of the 80s LA mod scene!
I remember going to the taping, it was at a community college, perhaps in Pasadena or the Valley? I had no idea the studio lights would be so hot. I never had a chance to see the show, so many thanks to the uploader and video editor!
It’s hard to believe that this was in the mid-1980’s! The young folks here doing a good job in trying to recreate 1966! My heart and soul still til this day live in the years 1964-67. I know several of the people that were involved putting this on the air! It was probably a lot of fun!
It does look cool. If you look at actual teen shows from the 1960s, you can see that these 1980s kids don't do the dances right, hard as they try. The show was cool though. I used to watch it on community television in the late eighties.
@@colibri1 ….I know Audrey Moorhead, Mike Stax of Ugly Things Magazine, and I did correspond with the late Shelley Ganz. I grew up in Chicago in the 1960’s watching Kiddie A Go-Go, Swinging Majority, and Upbeat! These were all local dance shows from Chicago with the exception of Upbeat which was produced in Cleveland. They did “It’s Happening” very well and it was geared for the music of 1964-67. I would have enjoyed attending a taping because my heart and soul live in those years, 1964-67.
I was doing that myself here in North Carolina around that same time semi-aware of It's Happening, and I was made fun of for it. Of course, I didn't care what others think then nor now. It was fun....
Absolutely superb. I'm in awe. I was a teenager during the 60s garage movement. My neighbor was a student volounteer DJ at KANM radio in College Station Texas. Because I was a hip and cool kid he brought me 45's more often than not. Most I still have to this day. Thats how I got hooked on this style of music. Totally dig the video.
Wow Wow Wow !!! Amazing quality of the restored pilot!! Love the Zebra Stripes intro 66 and of course our favourite band The Unclaimed ! Thanks to share it 🙏😊
