Should i have mixed the liquid and yeast or just left if and second what about the tops blowing off and spurting out if it’s not fully fermented ps only trued making mead did it wrong
Yes ideally mix the yeast by stirring it in if using a bucket as your fermentation vessel or if using a bottle seal / cover the opening and give it a good shake about To prevent it blowing through your bubbler leave adequate head space at least of 3-5cm in a bucket and 7-10cm in a bottle as the tapered top has less volume If unsure place your fermentation vessel inside a second larger bucket or tub to contain any liquid that blows through the bubbler If you mean it blowing the tops off after you bottled it but it was still fermenting you can deactivate the yeast before bottling by adding a crushed campden tablet to your brew the day before bottling which will stop further fermentation Most importantly don't be deterred, hope that helps 👍 All the best Roo
@@Myopinionandstuff if you stop it early it will just be a sweeter lower alcohol content drink as the yeast won't have converted all the sugars into alcohol yet will still clear no problem 👍
@MariaMaria-sr8zg…. If you happen to read this thread again (it’s currently 09/19/2024) Coleman’s Military Surplus has these in stock online for $64 plus shipping. I bought one last month. It was listed in Very Good Condition and it appears hardly used at all. The only visible wear is to the stuff sack.
i had one,as said before be carefull not to let it get to hot mine is actuali crooked beceause it warped alot due to heat. it would be more havvy, but why arent they making these in titanium ? ok more expensive but would last longer and you could burn a hot fire in it
Plant-based version: powdered peanut butter subbed for milk completes the protein in the oatmeal. Matter of taste, but mine with peanut butter needs sweetener. Excellent video, thanks.
@@rodchapman4267 hi Rod that's just a shemagh scarf I've had for years, can easily get them online or in military surplus stores for not so much Thanks for watching buddy, all the best Roo

Hi thanks for watching the book I mention is: Bushcraft 101: A Field Guide to the Art of Wilderness Survival by Dave Canterbury It's a handy little book that's very easy to read and covers all the essential topics for spending time outdoors, here's a link to it on amazon so you know what to look for amzn.to/4dmKrfe All the best Roo
@@mrcards169 it's a cheap way to add some tannin which gives it a little extra tang when drinking, thanks for watching hope you have a great weekend! All the best Roo
It's not designed to use wood, you'll end up with a runaway flame, it will melt everything, the same way a diesel engine runs away, use fuel tablets, or gel, only use wood under emergency situations.
@@MikeCarr-qo6rj Hi Mike thanks for watching and your concern, these were usually used with gel cookers as you say, the active ingredient in gel or tablets is usually ethanol that actually burns hotter than a woodfire. Just as you can boil water in plastic bottles over a campfire without melting the bottle, a few twigs won't melt this system as it's not encased in flame for a prolonged period like in a forge and is able to passively cool through radiation All the best Roo
No after fermentation I siphoned the beer into a sterilised pressure keg, added priming sugar and left to condition, then poured from that keg, sorry I didn't make that clear in the video 😂 Take care Roo
@@abadchannel5724 the balloon won't record the pressure but it will allow your container to expand to accommodate the expelled CO2 without making a mess and it'll stop any bugs getting into your brew 👍 All the best Roo
@@PreparedCampingI have used a 15 litre bucket with 3 litres of air and used the same apple juice as you. Do you stop it from fermenting any further or not? After 1 week can you just drink it there and then? Thanks for the reply by the way.
@@abadchannel5724 yes you can drink it straight away, you won't need to stop it as after a week the yeast will have converted pretty much all the sugar in the juice to alcohol and then starve and deactivate by itself For a clear drink be careful and siphon the clear liquid out of your fermentation vessel and leave the sediment behind I drink it as it is, but I know some people prefer sweeter cider so they add a little fresh juice when drinking All the best Roo
@@PreparedCamping I added some dissolves sugar to my apple juice and the next day it showed lots of activity. I will probably leave it two and a half weeks so it develops more. Looks good at the moment though 👍. Thank you very much
1:30 this is not the way we handle this mess kit. You can hold all 3 pieces in ONE hand. The first 2 pieces you did right, now you have to swap the handle of the main cook pot to the other side. It will lock into a 90° angle. Then, you put the "bridge" of pan and cup across your palm, then put the handle of the main pot (that is locked into a 90° angle) over the "bridge" and close your palm. Now you can receive and handle main meal, sides and a drink with one hand. That's the clue to other once.
In the German army, we used to call these dackelgarage -- dachshund garage. Also, what we did is dig a hole first, so you lie below the ground with the "tent" above. I spent a whole night with my back on a large tree root that way.
@@nowayjose668 thanks for sharing, I wasn't aware that you dug in first that's interesting although by the sound of it sometimes uncomfortable! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment really appreciate it, hope you have a great day. Roo
As a yank married to a lovely English girl I have had toad in the hole and it is indeed delicious. Full English and bacon butties (sp?) fried eggs with chips and bean are right up there too. Heard people here complain that English cooking is bland but they're the same ones likely voting for Biden if you get my drift so take no notice. Good hearty working mans food. I'm going to try this in my Czech mess kit.
@@clinnyboy would work equally well in them as they're a close fitting kit, thanks for watching and taking the time to post kind feedback 👍 Take care Roo
So the trick is to take it off the heat and then cover it with a lid? The steam will cook the rice, while the water is absorbed from the rice. I'm going to give this a try with a single Esbit tab and half a cup of rice.
Hi, Basically it's vitamins for yeast, most home brew stores and online retailers sell it, the brewers yeast I used here has it mixed in with the yeast already. Conditioning is storing the product for a while before drinking which allows the flavour to mellow and improve Happy brewing! Roo
Never heard of it, but it looked quite tasty! I just ordered some knock off British army mess tins. I hope they are as good. I will give your recipe a go myself! Although, I am unsure if we have the same sausages here in the States. When I lived in New Zealand, I would eat the British style sausages over there and found them quite bland, but I developed a taste for them after a while. Thanks for sharing!😊
I tried this in my Stainless Steel stash mug and it worked perfectly. This is going to save me so much money on camping meals and dishes when at home! Thanks a million!
What portions do u use for a meal just by yourself and what else do u eat with the rice? Ive been making instant au jus gravy and it tastes so good. Might add carrots and beef
Very useful video. I'm planning on buying some of these to do a little DIY build ready for an upcoming adventure. It's handy knowing what I'll be getting as I wasn't sure from the item listing 👍 I'd be curious how tough it is?
Thanks for that! The extra info is much appreciated 👍 I'll be checking out some more of your vids when I get a chance as I just found your channel today (and subbed of course)
