However, I can say that if you hold the front brake on and steep across the bike seat using the left footpeg to make getting onto it easy, you'll be just fine. It's well made and a nice bag, but the storage is small. If you want to use it for weekends away you'll need something like the SW Motech quick-detach saddle-bags.

Nice comparison! How has this kit stood up over the last year? Do you find your vest to be more comfortable n hot temps than the Klim vest? I wear a Klim Rally version of the airbag under my Marrakesh because the back area is more breathable. I took out the chest protectors because I don’t ride off-road, so I have more air circulating in the front.
@RichDunn
@RichDunn Месяц назад
It's stood up well. There are some drawbacks - you can't machine wash the outer (I Fabrese it) and it has to be sent back if the bag is deployed - both problems resolved by the new Tech-Air 7 and off-road versions. I haven't owned the Klim but have tried one on and friends have them. I think it's a step up from the Klim in terms of tech and I hate subscription models, which Klim airbags are (used to be?). All Airbags are hot in very hot temps. I've ridden 1,000 miles this week and every day has been 85-95F and I've grabbed either a Rukka or Knox airflow armored shirt for each of those days, its just too hot for layers, for me. The AlpineStars fits well under my Knox shirt with its armor (except elbows) removed. It's a stretchy shirt that should give sufficiently if the airbag was deployed. I think it also makes for a good three-season solution, under a Marakesh in spring/fall and under a gore-tex suit in winter. But when temps gets dangerously hot, its a little too hot for me - but every airbag is. As a wise man once said I'd rather sweat than bleed.... but I have my limits Three friends have had minor falls this year wearing this same vest (two road and one off-road) and none have had more than a bruise or two. The tech definitely works and its wearable for most of the year temperature wise.
@4940markhutchins
@4940markhutchins Месяц назад
@@RichDunn thanks for your encouraging update. Glad to see its still working. Yeah it gets hot. I live in Utah and ride around the western U.S. where humidity is low. I still wear the vest, but a few tricks I picked up to tolerate the heat (which you probably know too): LD Comfort base layer that wicks sweat away and cools (Klim Aggressor -1.0 also works) under a Klim Induction jacket. If its really hot, I soak the base layer in a sink, rinse it out and switch to my Marrakesh because it slows the airflow and doesn't blow away the cool like a hair dryer. The other thing is a hot mindset when riding that makes me get used to it. Above 100? I ride if its the only option. I'll take your word on the better tech. The In&Motion subscription is an option, but I opted to pay it outright. The A-Stars airbag is intriguing, but the Klim is what I have, so I'll stick to wearing that.
@RichDunn
@RichDunn Месяц назад
@@4940markhutchins I wear wicking base layers. I also have a Klim Induction, but in the south above 90F it's just too hot for that the Marakesh, or other airflow jackets that I have. I have to go with a AAA armored shit to keep cool enough, and even then it's a struggle when stuck at traffic lights or in a traffic jam. Especially if I'm not on a naked bike. I would stick with the Klim airbag if you already have one. Like a helmet, give it a five-year shelf life then replace it with whatever the best mouse trap is at that point in time.

You have to have the "Schuberth Head" to wear one their helmets. They have the most limited shell sizes amongst the high end, high price helmets. As an example, Arai models have incredibly customizable 5 shell size sizes plus the tear off interior layers. I bought Schuberth S2 size L back in the day and barely wore it. It became a nice decoration in my living room. Their C3 or C4 size L is too small and size XL is too big for me just because of their limited shell sizes. Buyers should be aware.
@RichDunn
@RichDunn Месяц назад
Good feedback. Schuberth do offer multiple shell sizes and customizable interior layers for the C5. In addition, the interior and exterior shape are both totally different from the S2, C3 & C4 helmets - none of which fitted my head well IMHO. The C5 is different and works for me, but I did have to size up one size compared with my Arai and Shoe helmets. But as I mentioned there are some good options and buy the one that fits and feels the best to you as an individual. For me, with several helmets at home to choose from, this has now ecome my personal favorite.

The C5 is no doubt awesome and is at the limit of what I'd spend, although I added the slick Sena 50 series based SC2 system. How does this carbon C5 feel while riding? Noise compared to the regular C5 or similar Shoei?
@RichDunn
@RichDunn Месяц назад
I've added a Cardo Edge, upgraded speakers, a Brake Free, and tinted face shield to it. I've just worn it for 700 miles in 3 days, which included monsoons and 95F heat. I can say that compared with the Shoei it is significantly lighter (no end of day/next morning neck aches), significantly quieter (preventing headaches, helping intercom clarity), totally watertight (pinlock standard), supremely comfortable (premium interior), and it flows much more air. It's all positives, except Ii prefer the Shoei chinbar release mechanism. Overall though, I've owned literally dozens of helmets and still use four of them - but this has quickly become my favorite one I've ever owned. And at $1,600 it really ought to, right? But the gamble paid off IMPO.

The video is only 4.29? If you mean MRA - what is it you are see, and what is it you want to see? Note: the MRA phone app export is no longer supported. MRA tell me it's a problem at Sygic's end. I gave up on Sygic and moved to a Garmin Zumo XT which I used on a Tiger 1200, another MTS V4, and now an R1300GS. It works perfectly with MRA files - but not Zumo XT"2" does not. I have two friends with XT2s who have many problems with imported GPX files. MRA is brilliant for route planning. But my advise would be buy aa Garmin Zumo "XT" or if you don't want to spend that much get a Beeline Moto. Both work well using Google maps (easiest on the eyes) as the planning map in MRA website. @@jh449612 MRA revised the phone app and launched a newer all-in-one app too. The website has always been great for route planning, but the phone app pretty poor in terms of reliable route guidance. A friend has the latest version of the wall in one (I forget what they call that) and claims it is pretty reliable. However hee still rates his Beeline higher for accuracy, and the Beeline app is the easiest route-planning app (I've tested several) to plan an actual route on. The only negative with the Beeline is auto re-routing does not work for imported GPX, only for routes physically planned within the app itself. If you want a large map and voice commands a Zumo XT is the way, of you just want to know when to turn with minimal distraction then a Beeline is hard to beat. It's disappointing that Ducati dropped the ball on such an expensive bike. But I spent hours talking to top people in Ducati about it - one even said Claudio knew who I was - and that dog will not hunt. For the next major MTS update expect them offer CarPlay or switch supplier.

never ceramic coated a bike before ..would it work on the wire wheel rims as well because they are quite matte ?
@RichDunn
@RichDunn Месяц назад
That's a good question. And the simple answer is yes. I've ceramic coated a Multistrada V4S and my other ride a Triumph Street Triple RS. Essentially, you can coat anything you want to except the engine and exhaust for obvious reasons. I do all the lights, windshield, levers, and so forth. Some say you can do the seats, but I leave them and the TFT alone. I would say it's especially good on matte finishes like ADV bike beaks often are, turning plain matte into a soft satin (not glossy) finish. It looks really nice, like itss been polished with silicon spray. It's really useful on the wheels because they ar emuch easier to clean if less dirt sticks to them. Let me know how you get on!

It rained heavily the next day and then the sun came out drying the deck completely - except where the spray fell, where there were big droplets of water resting on top of the coating. Despite neigh-sayers, it simply works!

How will you compare the bike against the Multi V4? Like you, i previously had many big GS's, then the Multi V4 and now waiting for the GSA. Had a short demoride on the GS with knobby tires. Except for the tires i enjoyed the bike, even though it felt a bit more cramped (knee angle) for my 194 cm, compared to both the Multi and the 1250. Also, my girlfriend did not like the passenger seat on the new bike, must be smaller than before...? Bmw representatives have said the Adventure will be more touring oriented, and that the difference between the two will be bigger than before. Can't wait. 😎
@RichDunn
@RichDunn Месяц назад
Comparisons are relatively easy having owned three Multi's and now five GS/GSA's. And I have friends with the V4 and GSA's, so might do further back-to-back group test comparisons. The 1300 is a better bike than the 1250 in terms of sporting dynamics, performance, and additional features (ACC, E/Windshield, AHC), but looks less rugged and is slightly worse for passengers (better suspension but thinner seat). It's much closer to being a Multi V4 now, but has more accessible torque, shaft-drive, better brakes and greater agility. The GSA is likely to be much heavier, with better wind and crash protection, have a taller front wheel, and greater range. It won't be as nice to push around or go fast on, but will be better with a passenger on a cold and wet January day when you have 400 miles still to go. Not unless the difference between the 1250 GS and 1250 GSA. It's what works for your user case that matters. I often ride an Adv-Tourer like a sports-bike, and I always ride solo, so I like the lighter and more dynamic feel and don't think I'll be buying the heavier GSA when released. But many will prefer that for their needs no doubt.
