On the Sammy being 'told to leave' & the Roth temporary re-union already happening I'm not sure about the chronology of that. ED claimed that the Roth thing was AFTER Sammy went his own way in a 1996 Steven Rosen interview.
Ray Daniels insulted RUSH ? I never heard that before .....Why would he insult Neil, Geddy & Alex ? I think also Ray Daniels was Alex's Brother in Law ?
ANDY JOHN'S did a lot for both Alex's drum sound AND Mikey's bass high in the mix....Donn bless him was always a little shy on the bass because he so wanted to emphasize Ed's guitar all over the sound map.
The Donn Landee thing about threatening to burn all the tapes because of tension....Im not sure that happened during production of the 5150 album ...There wasn't any tension on making that album at all. ED described it as 'a breeze' to record. I think you've got your wires crossed here. The tension was during the 1984 album with Roth....NOT the 5150 album with Sammy. ...& on 1984 the tension was between Donn Landee & Producer Ted Templeman.
The Roth business structure didn't 'crumble' in 1985....According to ALEX in a 1985 Steven Rosen interview the remaining VH members got rid of 'the whole ball of wax' of it because DLR was bringing too many problems to the creative process.
sammy saved the bands dignity in late 80s early 90s. dave looked pathetic by late 80s early 90s trying to dress and act like the hair band lead singers who were a decade younger than him . he looked like a wig wearing 40 year old still tying fit in with the young crowd thank god van halen didnt get any of daves stink on them during that era
He was found dead ,all alone , with wine all over his hair , with high quantities of wine in his lungs and no alcohol in his blood , he was declared dead by drowning .....
*1984* Was the last Van Halen album but what a great album to end on... after that they should have changed their name because it wasn't the same at all.
Based on Steve Lukather's video interviews Eddie recorded the solo for "Beat It" to a hand tapped MJ click track well be fore Steve and Jeff recorded the rhythm, bass and drums for that song.
I've watched the interview numerous times. But according to Eddie he actually had to rearrange parts of the song and he found the verse better to solo over. And sure enough melodically his notes follow the chord progression during that tapping part. Eddie's side of the story makes more sense
I recently wrote and recorded an album with original Racer X members Jeff Martin and Harry Gschoesser. Paul joined us on 3 songs and we played some insane guitar solo exchanges. He was also kind enough to give me the guitar that was custom built for his Beatles tribute with Portnoy. Paul is one of the kindest and nicest guys in the music biz, apart from being an amazing guitarist and musician!
The most solid, clean and consistent alternate picking chops I've ever heard! Pairing him up with Billy Sheehan on bass was just mind-blowing! The way those 2 could harmonize parts while shredding and being exactly on-point was some seriously next-level playing!
Paul is a sort of godfather! He is responsible for Millions of people shredding and blue sing// such a nice guy with such a great skill...the Bucket man Maker! We love you, dude!
Was front row at FSU when they and Journey opened for Montrose. Unbelievable. Very few guitarist make leaps and bounds. Hendrix, Eddie were two of those special talents.
Went to a show, saw him do numchuks, dance with foam fingers, give out toys, numchuck with rubber chickens (better than a master with a quality set), he played some isley brothers songs on bass, and made it such an enjoyable and unique experience i will never forget!
the band needed rhythm guitar, in the studio eddie would play awesome rhythm, but live there is a hole. also their is a reliance on covers as their song writing was not the best.. they just fell short in a few areas, which makes most albums feel a bit of a mixed bag
That's definitely an interesting take. I'm more particular toward the four piece sound with a single guitar, but they did use it to great effect when Sammy joined because Sammy is also a pretty ripping guitarist. They complimented each other - so I guess even if early VH had a guitar player that worked really well with Eddie it might have been a pretty explosive sound live. Very interesting take Thanks for that
Who invented what/who was first to do what is IRRELEVANT. Plenty of people sculpted before Michelangelo… Plenty of fellas kicked a ball before maradona… But theres ONE man that makes you remember… makes you sit up and take notice …THATS what makes them the BEST Edward Van Halen. The best electric guitarist to yet live.
