I wouldn't consider Led Zeppelin a "metal band". I would consider them a hard rock band mostly because their songs revolve around BLUES music, with a heavy back beat.

I think one thing the old school rockers Mastered that every new band can't wrap their mind around is changing the tempo in the sound of the song throughout the song they seem to be stuck in one dimension playing style... they forget that it's the Mellow slower Parts in the song that make the heavy faster Parts sound that much more heavier you need to break in the the song... Zep and sabbath were the best at this i think

I was there for the whole ride! Led Zeppelin in 1969 kicked off their iconic introductory tour with a playing a gig at a 🎪 circus tent in Framingham Massachusetts where at the time anyone who was anyone played. Hendrix, Joplin , Doors etc. It was in a residential neighborhood next to I-90 AKA the Mass. Pike. The neighbors complained about the noise 😑 🤔(imagine noise!) and the permit was pulled and the venue shut down. Zeppelin also played a gig in 1969 on the same iconic introductory tour at The Boston Tea Party. Probably the most iconic and well known venue in the Northeast! They played a very unusually long set that night and anyone who was there got a REAL treat! Steven Tyler was there and Tyler's girlfriend ended up going with Jimmy Page back to his hotel room for some after the show extra caricular activity. Ironic that theses two super stars became such good friends that Tyler and Perry were asked to host Zeppelin's introduction into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. Zeppelin's music definitely shaped the music word with their innovative and new sound! I was happy to be part of it! What a ride! Thanks for the memories and the music 🎶 🎵! Being 67 I grew up with Led Zeppelin in the background of my youth. Unlike today’s music they were always a mystery and really added to their popularity.

"Gosh, it's hard enough writing the music one way around, let alone backwards" Jimmy is totally correct. Nobody in Led Zeppelin purposely wrote the lyrics so that they would form sounds of other words when played backwards. There are other bands who have added some backmasking on purpose but that was not the case with the lyrics to Stairway to Heaven. But the song played backwards does form audible words, and it's not just one part, it is throughout most of the song. Robert Plant's own retelling of the story of how he wrote the lyrics is very interesting, he claims that basically the words just came to him as if written automatically.

Jimmy! Jimmy! Jimmy! Page, in his prime, was too cool for school! An almost mystical sense of stagecraft and showmanship, with the TALENT to back it up! (Many showmen and stagecrafters lack talent. They're just 'show' and 'flash'. Like many bubble gum 'metal' bands, and others.) I know this will piss many off, but with show and flash, and lacking talent and substance, KISS comes to mind. As does Triumph and whatever stupid band wrote, "Final Countdown". No 'umphh', no 'grit' in such gum-drop rock.

First guitar player I’ve heard that could make a guitar growl, and play the sound of a spiral toward the end of dazed and confused on TSRTS it comes through you’re ears and makes you feel/see a spiral along with alternate tuning the use of a bow, therman, wha, and various other techniques.

Oh, come on. In the mid 60s and into the 70s everyone was into mystical and other worldly to a degree. So much of the music from the mid 60s on used that kind of thing. Magical Mystery Tour. lol Page was no evil wizard. He was a musician. And he was not the only writer of the songs. All the guys contributed. Page loved freaking people out thinking he was some kind of wizard. He got his jollies scaring the crap out of Bowie once. The whole thinking of him being some evil or scary Halloween character was a great chuckle.

No other band put their drummer upfront and center like Led Zeppelin did Even up until their last album, they put the drums upfront in the mix, especially on fool in the rain … and rightly so He was a great drummer and they wanted to show him off in the mix of all of their songs and it was the right thing to do. He wasn’t Buddy Rich and he wasn’t Neil… He was his own guy, and he was a monster on the drums, and Jimmy used him in a positive way in the production of all zeppelin songs…., It said that he died at such a young age there’s no telling what he would’ve become later in life..,, we can only guess

Jimmy has definitely been a heavy influence in my 35 + or - years playing guitar. Having grown up in the 70s, 80s and early 90s I've got a diverse far reaching musical taste and although I've considered some Cats to be some of my favorites, I don't think it's really possible to quantify someone's playing or style as the best when everyone kinda does it differently. You can have 2 guys from successful bands coming up in the same genre and they create two totally different things. In fact you could give every guitar God the same rig with the same settings and a backing track and neither will play the same thing nor will they sound alike. Jimmy Page could pick up EVH's guitar and not changing a thing about his tone and it would sound exactly like Jimmy Page not EVH...

I grew up on Led Zeppelin I'm 69 now, I borrowed there 1st album of a mates older brother back in 1970 to record on my tape recorder 'still at school so didnt have a lot of money' and he didn't get it back for a long time, but I did start spending my paper round money on Zeppelin 1 & 2 as soon as I could and of couse every one there after. In fact I ended up buying a 2nd set so I have a very well played set and a set not touched. I managed to get to see them twice at Earls Court, and then Knebworth also saw Page & Plant, but no way could I get tickets for the 02. I love them to bits especially Jimmy Page, there will never be another band to climb to the heights Jimmy took Zeppelin to. To make this story have an incredible ending my son James not only plays Les Paul guitars and a host of Zeppelin's music he actually looks the spitting image of Jimmy Page back in the early to mid 1970s, in fact they call him Pagey on jamnights. Excuse me, no! 'Since I've Been Loving You', other than the opening live riff, in no way compares to, 'Tea for One'. 'Tea' is an infinitely more polished and nuanced blues piece, with a subtle electric guitar lead, climaxing in a solo that evoked an image, in me, of a teardrop falling through a blue spotlight. No comparison.

i think its a rather fun thought that pagey summoned one of crowleys demons, and they all sold their souls for fame and fortune , (it was either bonzo or JPJ that didnt participate) picked up a guitar because of this man when i was 14 back in 94....he still inspires me to this day. of course the real key to his sucsess and granduer is Cinnamon...😉 he will always be a grand wizard to me, just happens that his wand is a guitar. excellent stuff Jimmy mate, and thankyou....oh and you got a great name for a guitar player my good sir.🙂

Love this! I learned things that I never knew about LZ which is crazy because I thought I knew it all lol! What I have been doing lately is finding every live version of “No Quarter” just to listen to the middle jam between JPJ, JHB, and JP. The longer the jam the better! That is the magic of LZ was the live recreation of studio masterpieces and the chemistry between the band. The song No Quarter use to creep me out as a kid fueled by the band being labeled as satanic and the band hiding satanic messages on albums. The creepy riffs that JPJ plays on the keyboard and the vocal filter used by plant added to my creepy vibe about the song. I had that same vibe as a kid with Black Sabbath and their song Black Sabbath. The rain storm at the beginning and the dramatic music and lyrics. Fast forward: I got older and realized that I was being a little ridiculous and after really listening to those masterpieces I became hooked on finding the live versions because of the fantastic JPJ driven jams between the 3 with Plant adding to the magic with his improv. Fun fact: LZ never played Fool in the rain live. Obviously with JHB passing away I wonder if they ever would have because of its complexity. The Bonham shuffle which to me, is a masterpiece of complex fantasticness!!!!!!😅 Love this well put together documentary you created and I thank you, sir.

A lot of great musicians had co-writers to write lyrics. You have to know how to write a song in witch language. Say, "yes we can" and play it backwards

I have to disagree that Page is the GOAT. Never heard of a guy named Hendrix? And even Jimmy would agree as well. Eric Clapton, after seeing Hendrix for the first time, couldn't pick up a guitar for 6 months. Same deal with Hendrix and Page and a myriad of greats that would agree as well because once you have seen nirvana, heaven is a close second. And I love all the greatest, and not so great (your opinion, not mine) but what it all comes down to it, who is/was the best. There are some absolutely brilliant players who only play Spanish or nylon, and usually have the greatest looking at the other guy and thinking " thats impossible, how did you do that" and the other guy just gives a little smile and thinks " My boy, you have much to learn ".

My friends and I moved the LZIV record backwards on the turntable, and came up with the same line for the Satan thing, but I remember it not having anywhere near the clarity of your sample. If this had any real intent (not) then it would beg the questions: why did anyone even listen to it backwards to discover it in the first place?, and how many records did they do it with before finding anything?

Before I matured and grew to know better, Jimmy is very, very, very overrated as a guitar player... Sure he's been part of some great stuff, but come on... I paid big money both times I saw Zeppelin in the 70s, and was thoroughly disappointed both times... He's a pretty damn sloppy player when ya get right down to it...I love Jimmy, but he wouldn't make my top best 15 Rock/Metal guitarists...

For fans of Page this is quite the treat
