This was honestly one of the dumbest scenes in the series. Lassie gets in hot water for hooking Juliet up to a lie detector but apparently everybody is on board with him hooking Shawn up to one. Also, if my girlfriend was telling me that I was on my own with it then I would have dropped her so fast. And then his dad is like you have to answer that one. Its like no he doesn't. I mean I get the predicament that he is in with the photograph but seriously.
Here is what I never understood... at the beggining lassie claimed that the machine was not working so why would he believe that it was accurately show whether Shawn was telling the truth.
The best part is the tiny but crucial detail of Henry reminding Shawn to exhale before answering. He exhales before saying "You have to answer that one, Shawn" and then Shawn does it too.
I like how when Lassie first asks it's in a small voice like he doesn't want to believe it but he can't help but maybe believe it and that he actually looks up to Shawns in certain ways and he secretly doesn't want the magic to die later proven by when he breaks the CD at last episode
Here's something I read once, and got me thinking. Juliet finds out through the lie detector test that Shawn loves her. The same lie detector test that Shawn beat to say he was psychic. So, when Juliet finds out he was lying about being a psychic, what do you think crossed her mind in that moment?
Her thought was "what else has he lied about." But we're also shown that shawn didn't do any breathing prep before blurting it out. So we know it, but she doesn't.
Setting aside for the moment that lie detectors don't detect lies, they detect stress, which is not the same thing; that is not how you read, or perform a lie-detector test.
I don't know what season this is, as I have only watched half of season 1 so far. I hope this show eventually moves on from the whole psychic angle where he spazzes out and pretends he is a psychic. It's pretty cringey, which is why I consider Monk or The Mentalist more watchable than this show.
