It’s a pita but u should always air down in deep sand & never leave the load bars on while towing off pavement, it just transfers more weight back to the trailer instead of your Sequoias rear axle, and you may even bend something.
We live in the Yoop and would never drag a TT down any trails/ roads. Logging roads can lead you to nowhere. Plenty of campgrounds on Superior. Welcome to Paradise. Lake Superior State Forest campground is the place you want. Plus I don't think you are allowed to camp On The Beach.
That’s definitely whitefish point in Paradise, Michigan so many people get stuck on that road when you’re insane you only need 10 pounds of pressure in your tires. Hard tires will bury you.
@@antoinettekerins9739 all the windows were open but we have screens. there are all kinds of little cracks and crevices that those little gnats can get through. I’m pretty sure many of them could fit right through the screens.
Guy brings a KOA camper into the woods on ORV trails without scouting and thinks anything other than this would happen? It isnt just a U.P. sand problem, that's a mentality problem. Its the reason we end up with trails closed and camping limited to paved parks. I love your itch to get out with the family. But, do it right, for everyone's sake.
@@ryanhoeksema2191 you don’t know what you’re talking about buddy. Don’t be so quick to jump to assumptions or jump on peoples back. I’ve pulled this camper in and out of the woods and 4x4 trails in 45 states. Never once had to call for rescue. Never once wasn’t able to get myself out. So what I went down a trail I’ve never been down before? I didn’t mess the trail up. I didn’t have to call anyone and waste resources. I was hoping to make it to the beach but didn’t so I did what I had to do to get out. Take a chill pill brother
Park the camper and scout it out, dont just go for it down a trail u never been on, sum trails get narrow and u gotta backup for miles, id also get a truck alittle more setup, and u can air down ur tires
@@tankdog03ify I’ll do as I please and keep traveling and enjoying this beautiful country, one unchecked, narrowing, with my non setup truck, at a time 😂
@@tankdog03ify idk why everyone’s getting their panties in bunch… I took my camper down a trail that I had to turn around on. So what?? I got out on my own accord. Didn’t bother anyone. Didn’t have to call for rescue. That’s part of traveling the country and not staying at campground.
Simple if the DNR in this state see you going where you shouldn't they will close the road and that is just the way it is. Driving on the beach is a big no, no not that your doing it but idiots will and that screws it up for everybody.
@@TheGeneralHoudini I wish I would have skated and filmed more! It is such a difficult park to skate and I just wasn’t it feeling it that day. I did skate it pretty hard about a year before this video though!
Whoever told you that you could drag a camper through the U.P. is not your friend. Most folks that head up north have well-equipped off grid cabins, and those that do go camping up that way have specialized rigs for navigating the terrain, or use tents. Personally, given the wild life up that way, I'd look for a cabin to rent if you decide to head back up. Glad you made it out though.
@@jnmaher1967 I love the idea of a truck camper! It doesn’t really fit our style of traveling though. We love to just set the camper in the woods as home base and travel around without the weight. I know you can set the slide in camper down as well but not as convenient to do so as the travel trailer.

Next time go to the central and west end of the U.P. more beautiful and better camping!! If you're every up this way hit me up I can give you some pointers.
Spent a week there last December in that campsite across from the bathroom that backs up to the bay. No bugs but the temp was cold at night. Lots of horses and few people.
Thanks for the great video! We are headed there in July, I have a pretty large rig and hope to do this trail. Any super tight turns or spaces an F250 crew cab long bed won’t make it through?
For starters It's not called up It's called the U P. Now for your stuck situation Do you have your traction control off It helps a ton. Maybe some more horsepower. This happens every year to us We don't give up we just keep pushing.
@@sunshine_state_sequoia well thank you I'm sure you're one too. But no I wasn't trying to do that at all. We normally run Jeeps and use tents. I live in the lower peninsula and I've been up in the UP many times. I've been camping for over 40 years Good luck 🍑
Both of you all stay outta the U.P. we don’t like outta towners, that includes lower Michigan folks come up with your Ill equipt vehicles messing up our trails. Now Joe dirt from down the way has to fix it so his wife Betsy won’t hit her head off the roof of the SXS when they hit your holes
Yo Marylander here and do Assateague a bunch. A number of vids on my channel. Couple pointers if you come back: MiedAtlantic humidity is real and bugs are worst in summer, especially Bayside or with a bay breeze. Try to visit shoulder seasons- April, May, Sept and Oct. the nights will get cool tho and water is too cold to swim, but imo better experience. Check out the State Park campground- super nice bathhouses and just on other side of dune from beach. Driving on the beach is awesome- known as the OSV area. Need a permit and 4 x 4 to do. Watch for rip tides- they can prevalent in summer- know how to spot and handle if caught in one. Hope you get back, it is special place.
Some camping isn't free... DNR and Forest Rangers require PERMITS in State and National Parks and Forests. Most are free permits. They allow two weeks camping then you have to move to another Park or Forest areas. Sign in at the DNR Office and they will give you a permit which to post at your camp site. Its a law.
Here in Michigan, dispersed camping on state land or state forests is totally free, with a permit. It’s also totally free in the national forest, no permit required.
The whole state of lower michigan, western and northern is sand. Some places have deep sugar sand. The hills you see in those areas are mostly ions of sand from the Great Lakes blown with the winds. I live in Crawford County, Michigan and a backhoe dug a hole for burying tree branches. The backhoe dug 15ft deep, nothing but pure beach sand. I offtrail most of the time and its 90% sand TWO TRACKERS and ORV ROUTES. 4 Wheel drives work most of the time but 4x4 with lockers and a front winch is a must in some spots... I suggest before to pull your trailer up a trail you drive it first without the trailer. Most Towing Companies won't go offroad for recoveries and many insurance companies won't cover you unless you're on a County or driveable road. I have a Michigan legal highway Rzr which has full highway insurance (except Interstates) but no tow recovery offroad insurance... Glad you made it out..
@@captseamus a lot of people say walk it or drive it first without the trailer. If you ever traveled for an extended period of time, or full time for 2 years in our case, you know that’s just not feasible. Sure, I’ve had to back up for a mile down a trailer before with the camper, or have to go and extra couple miles down a trail just to find a turn around spot. But it is what it is. I’ve done this in 45 states and never not once had to call rescue or not been able to find a way out of the situation.
@@williamgorski3929 haha he seen the videos online. Someone will be like flipped over in a median or something and someone will scream out “hey you can’t park there!” 😂
Man whenever you're in sand like take air your tires down to 20 to 12 pounds,,you get better float over sand,,I live in the U.P that sand can suck you in ...but you did it and got out,,towing dead weight cool.
@@sunshine_state_sequoia That's what I wanna hear. I'm gonna be out there soon. It's such a legendary park, I feel I have to skate it, but it looks intimidating as hell.
@@XopherRobinson it’s definitely rideable, just takes a little adapting. That was the second time I’ve been there and I skated a good bit the first time I went. The ramps are steep and super close to each other so it’s just kinda weird haha
Since Cuyahoga Valley had no official campgrounds.. where did you guys stay? We have been wanting to make a weekend trip there but unsure which campground to look at. We travel with our dogs as well.
We stayed at Silver Springs campground! We chose there because it was the closest to the train station that takes you into the National park, which I believe was in the town of Akron. It was a pretty nice shaded campground with a fishing pond and bathrooms. I remember the host being very nice and informative as well!
