🔥 I appreciated the video tutorial. I don’t use Premier but my key aways are actually just reaffirmed by something you said in a previous video, challenging us to learn hot keys (shortcuts). Thank you Austin, good job! 🔥 Re: Previous conversations, if you were to roast 1-3 and give me pointers; man I’ll be in the comments section waving the Vote-Austin-2024-flag campaign for life 😂 Retention Edit: Apple II Cinematic anti-bully edit: Supermanning On-camera uncut unedited, 2025 Homelessness Any time you could spare? Hi Onlison! I just finished watching some of your content - mainly the Apple II video. You're doing great! Lots of nice editing techniques there. Did you do the voiceover? I thought the voice performance was really good. I enjoyed the music too. Did you create that? Where did you get started in the arts? Keep it up!

@@austen_menges Thank you Austin, Yes beginning to end was me. Music written and composed was the biggest challenge; I wrote and composed several songs, and sometimes you just “change your mind” you know? This is how it went: Something was working, something looked good, but in my heart it didn’t feel like I made the connection you (the audience) needed to see, so (haha, you know this part…) you trash it and start over. But I’m getting better about being patient with my thoughts, and trying not to go too overboard. My love for the arts started when I was a young boy, I use to run around with a cape on like Superman and I would pretend to fight crime in my backyard, I had done videos of myself. I would copy the fight scenes I’d see in the Christopher Reeves Superman movies; and it really gave me a lot of joy, to act, direct, and “fight crime” as I grew up, around 13, life cuts you down… and I walked away from those dreams about 20 years ago. About a year ago, I was truly inspired during Christmas, that’s another story for another time, but if you see my first video, it’s 60 seconds; you’ll see where my mind was at. And.. when I was done, I vowed that if I was going to do this, be a creator. I wouldn’t ever sell or package something my heart wasn’t in. Albeit some of my early content was really rough, I needed to go through that process. 1 year in, about 40-50 hours a week, maintaining a job, raising a family, and having an amazing time doing it all.

I especially agree with point no. 1 in terms of having a workflow that supports your creative flow instead of hindering it. At my workplace we have a folder structure, which seems to be a bit more intricate with multiple numbered sub-folders. The main point of numbering the folders in our case is to arrange the files in a way that accommodates a typical workflow, eg. Raw Media comes before any Intermediate Files etc. It makes it intuitive to read, as you can quickly find the folder you need based on your current task in the pipeline. Learning to use a more complex folder structure like this has become second nature to us, and navigating it is lightning fast, once you gain muscle memory. And most importantly, you always know where to look in order to find the file you need. It is with folder structure as it is with software. It's a tool to solve a problem. You pick and stick to the ones that allow you to accomplish the points you presented in the video.

Alright Austin, don’t be mad. I have a very free thinking mentality right now; I’ve written and composed probably about 80 songs now, and have made about 33 videos. Of the 33, probably only 2 are worth keeping (keepers 🤌). The songs I first made, vs now, probably only 5 are om-gness (🤌🤌🤌 Zimmerman style). All the vfx and sfx, those are usually pulled from downloaded resources and the custom sounds I make are easy to reproduce with a microphone recording and isotope, if needed. So… I don’t do any of what you said 😂 But I’d under if I had accountability with clients maybe I’d need to. Your knowledge is rich. My way is currently the way of no way until I find my way, you know? Your amazing friend! Onlison

4:50 - You don't have to drag files from download to your folder structure every time. Chrome has an option to ask for file path each time you download something, so you can download files directly to where you want it or better of use an utility like FDM. It's an open source download manager. You can set download priorities between multiple downloads, can download torrent files as well and the biggest advantage of using a software to manage downloads is that when a download fails in the browser, it starts it over again but when it fails on FDM it continues from the point where it failed. Saves time.
@austen_menges
@austen_menges 9 дней назад
Thanks for watching and for your comment! For me, dragging and dropping is faster and more intuitive than selecting a file destination. Though, I think that's a great alternative!

Great video Austin, may I pick your thoughts for a moment? In my last video: “Apple II: 1977 The Chain Reaction Revolution”, I had approximately 12 layers of timeline sound that I exclusively dedicated to sound, and about 13 layers of media above it. I always broke sound into 3 categories; and I appreciate your sharing of knowledge with me, Diegetic Music? WHAT? I never heard of it, but I also called that Dialogue music, the actual music within the dialogue; funny how close but far I was. Your timeline looked very clean, you had more layers. Can I ask what Books or knowledge resources you could recommend which might help put (informationally) me on par with your thinking? I know I can’t gain your 20 years overnight, but I’m about a year in at 40-50 hours weekly on top of maintaining an 8-5, and I very much appreciate people supporting me with knowledge. Thank you!!!!!!! Onlison 🐅

Thanks for the tips. I wouldnt have done a cut like this with his voice playing while you can still see his face, I feel it takes away from the realism. Better to bring in the inside noise of the school first then had him talking again when you see him next

Good content man, but what's with the wideangle distortion (of your face shots)! It's distracting, or could just be my OCD :) Speaking of OCD, I find the first edit better - cuts the fluff faster. In the second he talks, then turns around, and starts talking again (from the J cut sound coming early) while his clearly visible mouth is not moving. That kills the idea that what we hear is him talking, which is retained better in the first edit (even if we jump from outside to the ladder between two consequtive sentences, it still has better flow).
