I live in Cambodia where the selection is nil, and so I'm traveling to Bangkok in early September -- where the selection is better but only just. These are available there, but I have a concern. My living room is only 360cm across by 600cm deep and, like every room in every building in Southeast Asia, it's made out of poured concrete. Based on what you guys said about the bass performance *and* the "need" to turn these up a little, I'm worried about being trapped between an imbalanced sound at low volumes, and overwhelming the room with bass at higher volumes. (Plus I'm a low-volume listener anyway, so I'm a little put off by the "please turn me up" comment.) Do you guys think that perhaps a different product line -- like, say, the Acoustic Energy 109 and 309 -- might make a better fit? Listening habits are low-volume, companionable, lots of off-axis listening to piano jazz trios and quartets.
My livingroom is 35m2. But it is divided with a wall going up halfway to the ceiling, this is a little area where we watch tv, films etc, its all conered off in a way, do you think the 5s will work in that area of the room?
I am confused between Dali oberon 5 and oberon 3 for my front stage. I have marantz cinema 60 and svs pb 1000pro sub. Can you suggest me which one i select their is no live demo available at my location.
You say "...the bolt on feet give a lot of stability...", surely the best stability would be by not using the bolt on feet no? I'm considering these but wonder if they might be a bit much for a 12 feet square room. What say you?
I own both the evo 150. and the Naim uniti Atom , prefer the EVO slightly ( not night and day!) its a tad smoother and more in control at high volume levels
1,100CAD? Wowser... I just got a pair for €400, even €380 in black), but they were €500 origianlly, so not much more, but certainly not over the 1K CAD. I liked the presentation of the RP-600M, that I gave to my brother, hopefully will recapture that with those Cabasse. Then, I'll need to buy a sub (SVS SB-1000 pro, probably) :)
FEW THINGS MISSED - The phono stage is not included, it's optional extra. As is a DAC. You can make the i50 gain dynamics for techno music by changing the tubes from 6550 to KT88. There is no sub out to add subwoofer. (Sorry not trying to being rude, I loved your video! But this is stuff that has to be mentioned it you're looking at $5000 USD amp) Again, thanks for the vid!
Nice video. Thank you. The discussion of the change in the gain algorithm sounds interesting. It could lead one to believe that if you already had a M10 v1, then it should be possible to update the firmware to include that algorithm. Do you know if NAD offers that as an option? If so, do you know if there is a cost to that? I've tried googling it (Google is your friend 😁) and have not found any information related to that. Thanks again.
So... it was hard to imaging spending $1,000 on these (here in Ottawa)... but I found a used pair in near-perfect condition that set me back $400. And I have to say, they are worth every single dollar.
you cant use BT 5.1 for HiFi... its only around 500kbp/s.... I have them. they sounding ok, noise canceling is 5 out of 10, they are very comfortable. I am biased since I love audio and I tried have have high end headphones. the DAC mode is not as different, its better but not great. I'd get the sony MX5s. half price better in almost every aspect.
Why didn't you do a genre comparison with a human voice as the focus, like an acoustic, non-pitch corrected female vocal? That would help tell which was the most natural sounding. That's a big omission in my opinion. And the watt output may be affecting how they drive the speakers, even though the volumes were similar. Also, you didn't say what the specs of your source music files and/or streams were.
Oberon 5 vs the polk R500? Which is more forgiving of placement and poor recordings especially for modern music, alternative, indie rock, pop and metal? Which has better midrange? It will be paired with audiolab 6000a and rose technics rt5000 dac. Would greatly appreciate your input. Regards
Supernait 1 was my first amp, and I still feel a pang of regret for selling that beautiful piece. It brought so much joy and warmth to my listening experience. I moved on to an Accuphase, but it left me disappointed. Now, I've switched to an all-in-one solution with the NAD M10. It's convenient, but I know deep down that if the NAD ever fails, I'll go back to the Supernait. That amp was unparalleled, giving me countless hours of relaxation and joy, even at low volumes. The rhythm and style of the classic Naim are simply unbeatable, and you can find them second-hand in superb condition. Plus, it pairs perfectly with my British Spendor D7.2. I don't understand the fascination with tube amps. Every time I had the chance to listen to them, I felt they offered less control, more distortion, and were overpriced. I also don't get where the idea comes from that they're difficult to drive speakers with. In my 30m² room, even with several speakers, I barely hit the 12 o'clock mark on the volume regulator. The Supernait had everything I needed and more, and it remains unmatched in my heart.
Sad news. Apparently these two passed away. They were found in a running vehicle within a closed garage, pants around their ankles & hands on each other's groin. Condolences. 😭
I've found these need burn in well over the recommended 100 hours. I was really missing the textures before proper burn-in. Also I found that there is a 2 stage bunr in with these - the first thing to improve is openness and bass response in the first couple of weeks - then after some extended use the textures to voices and strings come in nicely and they open up even more with a bigger soundstage. I was honestly considering selling them at first but wow - given some time they really shine!
It would be great if you shared the names of your test tracks in the video description. I've been searching for a while and I can't find a cellist by the name I *think* I'm hearing you say. And the album art you showed for Sadeo Watanabe isn't the album that the track is on (Autumn Blow). All of these details would help a lot! Thanks.
Ok, let's make our dream Mojo 3 because there's no way I'm buying a device with Micro USB in 2024. a) 2x USB-C ports b) 3.5 and 4.4 balanced. I have zero use for two 3.5 outs and I can't imagine many people are ever using this "feature." c) Much faster startup. 20 seconds? My Schiit tube amp takes less time to kick on. d) much improved heat dissipation... c'mon, this is still an issue?
