Hey really appreciate the honest video. I think the stigma around money does need to be removed. A lot of people working for private companies will not talk about salary to each other as it is a classed as a 'taboo'. This only really works for the company since they can pay someone 100k, and another person doing the same role 50k. This has got me wondering if you considered the maths since money is one of the primary motivators. Using the lowest figures possible Accountant take home pay 25k per year 25k x 6 (as it seems you are on a 6 course) = 150k Tuition fees, plus accommodation and travel = 10k 10 x 6 = 60k Grand total = 210k after 6 years Earnings after qualifying, take home pay, lets say 50k It will take you 4 years just to break even (not taking into consideration the salary you would take home in those 4 years if you continued working as an accountant) Did you not consider finance or healthcare IT. My brother works as a solution architect in IT and takes home £750 a day
Hey, great comment, I used to work as a national account manager on 6 figures myself in some roles, mostly however i was averaging around 50-65k a year. The UK is not a cheap place to live and the idea of practice ownership is amazing with huge growth potential. Coupling all of this with my dream of being a dentist made the decision quite easy :)
So who is gonna be recruiting the people coming thru the provisional license pathway? Is it gonna be any dentist that is permanently registered with the GDC or would there be like a certain criteria that only dentist with a particular years of experience will be allowed to recruit people thru the provisional license route? And also will the people be recruited into the NHS only or the private practice too?
Hey there, great question and when the GDC release their guidelines on recruitment, I'll do an update. As for now when dentists have their first year of work in the UK, they need to do approximately one year with a mentor, like a foundation year. So I would assume it would follow the same kind of journey and you'd be able to do private+NHS if that's the case. As for who can recruit, I'm assuming it needs to be from dentists with a certain number of years and regulated by their regions
Thank you for the information, it really motivates me to gather more information about how to practice in the UK for overseas dentists. I had been graduated from a residential prosthodontics program 3 years ago in Indonesia. If I try to practice in England with provisional registration, can I use my specialistic degree or I have to start again as general practice? Thank you 😊
Hey there. You'd have to likely start again as overseas qualifications are not usually accepted in the UK. If you're a pro at prostho, wherever you work will likely give you lots of prostho work so you'll be like an unofficial specialist and make lots of money through this route. Remember, the provisional license will allow you to practice temporarily with the condition to still do the ORE. Best of luck and thank you for your kind words
Hi there, the ORE isn't easy but there are plenty of courses to help you pass. You'll need to invest time and money to ensure you have a great chance of passing. Many ppl don't explain this truthfully and just say it's fine, but the truth is, it's testing you on your entire degree in one sitting and then part 2 is your hand work so you need to be very comfortable with it. But many courses can help
@@the_stu_DENT i have only have 5000 Euro, do i think i can go through with that path ? would it be possible to live and earn money after passing part 1 , i fear if i don't pass from first time i would have no money left to go throught the part 2 again
@@angelicafoster670 It is a very tight budget you would have but still can be done with this amount. I would say to study hard for now and see what happens next year if they release the update on the provisional license and how to obtain it as this may let you earn while you study
Hii, completed my BDS degree from India, currently in Uk as student dependent,am I eligible to work as dental nurse job/dental trainee nurse job in nhs without having any UK certification and nursing certificate
They haven't outlined the requirements just yet but surely there will be some guidelines. I'll make an update video as soon as there's new information 🐱
great video again👌🏽 thank you for sharing these valuable information i have a question about the process do you think they will prioritize dentists who have already started the ore process? i was just curious whether to send my documents for gdc now or wait till they officially anounce the provisional registration route?
Hey thanks for getting in touch. For now they're being so quiet about the intricate details that I would be shooting in the dark if I suggested what would be a better idea. However, it would be wise to start registration with the GDC as that usually takes some time and can be problematic. People have told me that they find fault with documents a lot of the time so it's better to at least get the registration done, then there's no real rush to immediately apply for ORE. My advice is to just register and go through the process, hopefully by the time you're all set up, the provisional license route will be ready :)
@@the_stu_DENThi if I register how many months or years I have to take the exams? First I need to pass IELTS Academic (I speak Spanish) I have level b1
@@MagaliEsquivel-uk4pv Hi there, typically it takes 2-3 years because of the backlog of people trying to take the exam, and that's all assuming you pass first time. It's getting better as they are slowly adding more seats to allow more people to sit the exam. But at the end of the day, it is worth it as Dentistry in the UK is a great career choice
I'm in the same boat as you my friend. I'm from the UK and studying in the EU. If it is mainland Europe then most likely you'll be exempt. Feel free to message me on Instagram @the_stu_dent and I can help you confirm it
NHS is the state style work that we have, our government funded healthcare for everyone in the UK, which is over subscribed and pays at a flat rate according to the work Private is based on the procedure and agreed price you make with your patient
Hi ..my son will be sitting for both medicine and dentistrt entry exam in slovakia this year . I am a dentist my self . I do have few clinical questiins if you could help me with .how can i contact you directly . Thank you
Any idea of how to apply for provisional incase if they start ang my ore application is accepted by GDC and Iam candidate list so am I eligible for provisional registration?
At the moment there's not enough information on the princess because they only just approved it. When they do release new information I'll make a new video ☺️
Thank you so much for your kind words. Subscribe as I'll be posting on this topic whenever there's an update and do share to anyone you think this could help :) ❤️
Hi, I am a dentist from India, currently in Uk. The route of working as a dental hygienist and therapist has been closed. Can i register with the GDC without ORE?
Hey there, unfortunately you'll have to do the ORE. If however, you do apply for the Provisional license when they finally let applicants do so, then you'll be able to come without ORE temporarily until you pass it. So you'll at least earn money and experience
Bro are you sure if I do any master’s in dentistry from Slovenia or slovekia, don’t need ore? Iam a mds graduate from india. Can you suggest me some options to migrate to UK without the need of ORE. Thanks in advance
Hey there, I never said that :) you'll have to do your bachelors here in the EU for that. Otherwise wait for them to open the window for provisional licenses
Thank you very much for your updates and kindness, really appreciate your videos as a dentist trying to find a way to UK. Keep them coming please. I’m so excited always getting a notification from your channel 🥰
Awww I have screenshotted and saved this message, it means so much to me to be able to help anyone and this is such a warming response. Thank you so much for being so kind and I'll do my best to keep you all updated :) . If you ever need me directly you can always message me whenever via my social media. Thanks!
You won't need to do the ore or the Provisional license. Just apply and you'll get the GDC number through equivalence... This is why I moved to Slovakia to finish my studies lol

Hi sir can you suggest me what should I choose as a final year student ORE or provisional license...As a fresh graduate I will not be as good clinically as a general practitioner who has experience.. should I still go for ORE
Definitely ORE as the exam is based on what you did at uni so it will be very fresh in your mind :) also with the provisional license, it is a way to make salary also so it might not need you to have great amounts of clinical experience. Both will be good options
Speciality training is required as you're not going to get any work otherwise if you don't have a specialism for ortho as people just won't come to you. That's why people offer Invisalign and other such products instead as they can go on courses and do this as part of general dentistry
This isn't all true, most dentist will not earn 150k or over (probably less than 1%). The only way this is achievable is by being a fully private reputable dentist in a affluent area, or being a principal (practice owner). In popular areas, you will have a lot of competitors and you will need to be better than them. Being a practice owner is extremely stressful and will have you thinking there is easier ways to make the same money. Aside tax, there are other costs such as lab fees, indemnity, gdc fees, cpd fees, accountancy fees (as an associate) which wasn't covered here. It is also important to mention that dentist salary does not rise steeply year after year. You eventually reach a peak (a prime) and then it will go down from there. Without private work, a six figure taxable salary is really difficult. You either be working crazy hours or harming patients (which isn't worth the risk of being stuck off, it only takes one complaint) For more accurate information, Google nhs digital dentist salary which has earning breakdown spreadsheets. Look at the taxable income as an indicator, under primary care associate
The GDC responded today by welcoming the decision but it made it very clear that registrants will have to undergo some form of 'registration assessment' so that incompetent practitioners cannot misuse this pathway. Hence, it is not equivalent to skipping the ORE/LDS but rather a simplified version of the said exams. Also, the GDC indicated that the registrants 'might' have to make arrangements for their practice supervisor. So it'll be, if implemented, a complex pathway to follow. Still, the best route is the ORE and LDS and I feel the preparation for these exams will never go in vain as one thing is certain that an assessment will exist regardless of the outcome of discussions around provisional registration. Also, is this route opens, pertaining to a large number of applicants for this route, will an overseas general dentist stand a chance against overseas specialists who are preparing to move to the UK but were unable to crack the ORE/LDS? I feel that serious candidates must refrain from this topic unless a rock-solid provision is available as it will interfere with their preparation. For months to come, anything surrounding this topic is just speculation. Thank you so much for making this video.
Great update, thank you so much for providing it, I'll read into it today. And I feel due to the temporary nature of this provisional license, it will never make up for the ORE/LDS as you've quite rightly stated. Therefore, I think general dentists still have a great chance if they take the more traditional route. Anyone looking to abuse it will inevitably still need to complete their ORE/LDS exam by a set period or they'll have to return to their country
Very relevant topic to discuss, especially as we find out in the upcoming months how things will unravel. One issue that may happen is a struggle to find "mentors" for these dentists. More needs to be done to incentivise more experienced dentists with becoming a mentor.
So true, glad to have you here in the comments. Anyone interested in finding a mentor, get in touch with Dr arj or message me directly to put you in touch with him
Can you plz tell me after passing ORE part 2 what is the time duration for practising? I mean If I want to take a gap of 2/3 yrs after passing ORE and then start practising, is it possible??
Hi there if you go to the GDC website there's a link for suggested books to study and also lots of videos explaining it also. They're always being updated but the most important are blue and pink book from Oxford
Hey there, did you watch the whole video? Dentists have their hands tied unfortunately with the way the NHS can actually lead to them paying out of their own pockets to treat patients
@@melgrant7404 Of course, they have families to feed too and after dedicating years to becoming Dentists, they have a right to choose how they operate, instead of working in a broken system. Believe me, Dentists want the change as much as everyone else, but the government are just not bothered, it's an awful state of affairs and Dentists get labelled as the devils for it
@the_stu_DENT I would agree the government has let dentistry deteriorate. But I do think once it is mended that nhs work should be a requirement of dentists even for just a period of time. To help people in desperate need especially. Nhs dentistry has to change or it won't exist. All patients will end up doing is lining private dentists pockets for ever with the extortionate charges which is wrong.lets not forget that patients families have to be fed too.they don't have the choice to take the better paid job to do that like a private dentist would do.
If you search on Google "buy dental clinic UK" you'll see some websites that show the value of the practice and how much they make before tax each year. It gives a good indication but it's usually very good. However, my advice, if you want to own a practice, aim to own more than 1 if you want to make serious money
Sorry for the late reply, unfortunately I don't have any information on that as I am really trying to get as much as I can on a career that barely gives us much in the first place haha. If I come across anything, I will be sure to help. If you head over to Protrusive Guidance App and sign up for free, you can ask some of the community members there, they would love to help and probably have some therapists there that would be a lot better to speak with than me on this topic. Sorry I can't help on this one, but always here if you need anything else :)
Glad to see another future dentist who wants to come back to the UK to improve the services here👌 Our office also represents with Universities in Georgia which I believe is a great option for those with a tighter budget 💯
It's awesome that you're helping people out whatever their financial background might be. Keep it up and hopefully more dentists can help turn around the problems we have back home
