Do you know if there are Adapter plates to put a Chevy Carb (factory Chevy TBI) on to a Ford 351W? I got a propane work truck 1985 F-350 commercial dually flat deck I want to make it Dual fuel because Propane is nice and cheap, but it starts like trash in the cold weather and some towns don't sell Auto propane . I have some spare TBI around from my Square body Suburban and Love the GM TBI system. And TBI means I can shut it off easy and use propane when convenient. I'm planning on just sliding the TBI underneath the Propane mixer (propane carb) and wiring some shut offs switches. Are there GM to Ford or Ford to GM adapter plates?
@@SquarebodyStuff ok thanks... Propane has a 3 stage set up equivalent to a carb. It goes from the tank into a safety valve, then into a vaporizing converter, then into a mixing Diaphragm. The mixing Diaphragm is like a carburetor but it's alot simpler because everything is pure gas at the mixer. Here in Canada you can pickup all kinds of Propane trucks Chevy and Ford from the 70's 80's and 90's because they were easy conversions, and they were exempt from road taxes back then. Even today with Road taxes applied to the Propane is only $0.90 per liter ($2.49 US gal) vs Gasoline at $1.50 per liter ($4.14 US gal) and Diesel at $1.70 per liter ($4.70 US gal). But Propane isn't sold for Automobiles everywhere, and about 10-15 degrees below freezing and you need a Block heater or you can't start the truck.
@SquarebodyStuff I have a 350 Mercruiser with a Qjet that's just done. And I wanted to put a Edelbrock on it but the adapter plate might not allow me to use the same linkage. But I've seen guys same engine same intake running a 600cfm Edelbrock with no adapter and I'm like HOW! Lol but anyway thanks for your input
I've broke a few lol. This one is getting replaced before our next trip to the track. The 3rd gear synchro is about done. Strong, yes. Indestructible, no. Fun to try to drag race with, priceless🤣🤣🤣
@@SquarebodyStuff Well in my opinion you are doing more than just trying, you are doing it. I know that 1st is unsynchromised and it not easy to shift in to it. also a top loader shifts better than the side linkage stuff, with the exception of muncies. Apparently the 2-3-4 shifts are pretty good on that big boy mans transmission. Well it is a muncie, either way I'm kinda of surprised at how fast you shift and how good your truck is working with that transmission.
@@SquarebodyStuff I noticed that, and 3rd always gets the syncros messed up on a transmission that you have to go up and over to shift. I have one that pops out of third, probably from years of grinding it. wait a sec. it messes up the inner synchro hub assembly it rounds off the sqaure corners, the brass synchro make it go into gear the hub assembly and drum is machined to hold it in gear.
Congrats on the good runs! 💪 Glad I saw this video just now. I plan on taking my '87 TBI 305 to the strip for the first time this weekend for some fun runs. I'm expecting low 16s in the quarter. (10.something in the 1/8th?) Not fast whatsoever, but hopefully I can have as much fun as you appear to be having.
This truck started out in the 18's in the 1/4. Go back and find the videos of the progress. It doesn't matter if it's fast, just go have fun. Keep me posted on how you do.
Congrats on the PB, looks like you are getting that launch figured out. That 2nd pass looked awesome on the launch. Happy you got the gears swapped and you can keep it in 3rd all the way now. Great video..
This was fun to watch. Kinda like I was there with you. Blue smoke. I see blue smoke as you launch and at the gear change, is that normal? What causes that? You're 305 Squarebody brother.
Air hug man!! 😂👊 thanks for the shoutout buddy. Love trying to make things go faster for other people. I hate doing it for myself 😂. But it’s all you bud. Determination, will power and good ole fashioned science is getting it done!
After watching you explain the process I think I'll reattach the sway bar and there arms etc. seen you left the bolts on, great safety tip. Been dreading this for a week . I think I'll tackle it cause I miss my 85 scottsdale, been driving moms mini van. Thanks for the tips and dipping into a touchy repair. Them springs I've heard about them being danger . Great video.
Not off the top of my head. I'm at the track right now and don't have my notes. This is the video of setting the ring gap.ru-vid.comTQ7hiEbbkVc?feature=share
Pretty much any small block chevy can run well. Get your compression up in the 9's. Then add a lil bit bigger cam, headers, duals, good intake & 4 barrel. Get the dizzy setup right and have fun 👍👍 Stick shift helps too 😊
I'd do a good cam and intake/exhaust within reason. I'd also match it to a 5sp manual in something that doesn't weigh more than 3600lbs. A fun build! Not something to slay giants😊
I agree, but I ended up stroking my 305 to a 339. And still hooked to the sm465 granny low. 😁 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Yg25MEa2Pi0.html
Nice one Chad. Unrelated question for you, im looking at doing a twin 2.5" exhaust on my 89 454 burb, is there any off the shelf systems that your aware of? Obviously here in Australia theres no options, was thinking the best way would be to build my own but getting something that requires a little less work would be preferable
Thanks again Chad! As you know ill be doing this soon. Was wondering how easy it is. I figure id get this knocked out in 30minutes now thanks to your videos.
305 is a good engine. In the 80s a friend of mine had one in a 1987 Monte SS and other mods (cam or chip) of the existing engine that made it a tire roaster. It was previously owned (before bought) by somebody who was part of a Monte Carlo club and the car ripped. We do not know what the mods we're but it ran excellent.
Hello Sir - I have an old square body 1983 - i love this truck- i would like to put the 3 on the tree back- the owner before me put in a floor shifter, - i do not like it at all. is there a way you could take a few pics of the linkage going from column, to trans. - i have the linkage rods, i cannot get them to fit - both seem to be short in length - was there a crossbar in there someplace? like a z bar for automatic. if you can help me solve this 10-year-old mystery - i really want that back on column . it would be so nice - i would owe you one sir ;} Thanks
I’m trying to replace the wheel cylinders on my ‘85GMC, but the cylinder bolts are badly rusted. As a result the bolt heads are rounded and pretty much gone. Any suggestions how I can get the wheel cylinder bolts out? Tia
Hey brother I’m just wondering if it’s possible to stop my 76 c10 blower motor from pulling in outside air. My exhaust doesn’t leak but at lights it still pulls in the surrounding exhaust smells is there anyway to prevent the blower from pulling that in or closing that off
My exhaust dumps behind the back tires, but at the traffic lights it will pull in exhaust from the vehicles around me , I don’t want to disconnect it as I’m usually running the ac
I just bought some 77 doors for for my 84 there bare doors no windows or nothing and my question is can I take my wing windows out of my 84 doors and put in the 77 doors?
Harbor freight has another icon creeper with the all terrain big wheels which is a bit more money. Still debating which I should get. Im tired of using carboard box as a DIY mechanic
