Thanks for the great content. So much information for indie developers like me. I appreciate it guys. I have a question about launching initial ADs campaigns. Considering running campaigns outside the US first (e.g., UK, Australia, Scandinavia). My reasoning is that these markets might have less competition, potentially leading to higher app ranking. In turn, a strong ranking in these regions could then improve US ranking and drive user acquisition all over the world. Just wander if it makes sense or not.
Never used FBSDK Or SKADNetwork, unless you hate money. Must use deferred deep-linking with CAPI to report events using a Web to App flow. SKAdnetwork reprorts attribution at the campaign level, which means your DCTs (now called Flexible ads) will not work. These are the CORE of FB Ad testing. Anyone who is not running these types of tests will believe you need way more money than you actually do.
Also, there is a middle ground between Broad & Targeted. Its called "Advantage Plus" - This allows you to go Broad while FIRST prioritizing users of a specific interest group.
The 10K a month initial budget is ridiculous. Thats a scale target, not a starting point. Although if you are not properly testing with DCTs or Flexible Ads, and don't have proper CAPI Attribution setup, its understandable why you would believe its this expensive.
Been watching for a couple years now, thanks for your help and great content! Heads up: As of this writing the Web2App appears to be unavailable on App Store and the demo is not working
What do you guys use to track your entire funnel probably? From the (ad) source, through the app stores, and into the app? Any holistic solutions for that?
Hey sorry this isn't really related to the topic but I thought I'd ask the question I'm building an app that is targeting Christian parents for their kids. It's optimized for iPad and it allows the kid to read Christian theme books as well as The Bible for kids by paying a fee for unlocking a certain amount of credits. There's also games in the app that the kid can unlock by reading a certain amount of books. My question is there are a few apps that are very well developed over a long period of time by well-vetted companies that offer the app for free and I do not see any indication of where they are making money. What advice do you have for apps that are competing against free apps of good quality when I am just a startup with a paywall
Let me create a video out of this but my short answer is most likely parents are NOT downloading multiple apps so go ahead and launch and focus on that providing the right value. If I’m using my apps as an example, there are free sleep sounds on RU-vid so people do NOT need to pay for my app yet they do.
if your app gives more in-app revenue, then need to reduce IAA because it can impact user retention. Weekly subscriptions for this type of app are a good option at a low price. App not found in sensor tower on both places Play Store & App Store?
For me, I think using only subscriptions gives a nicer and more professional impression (UI/UX) than putting ads everywhere (like a spam), but that's a personal choice. Steve, what is the best way to price app subscriptions initially like before you start testing and analyzing the subscriptions. (Examples: 1-Freemium tier = basic content. 2-Premium tier = individual and family). I am afraid that I will give a high price and people will run away, or give a cheap price and they will think that the application is "unprofessional."
As somebody who loves great products I hate this trend of spamming the user with ads. I have no idea why a user would not immediately uninstall such a bad experience since it should tell you what the company cares about the most.
The ultimate goal for a developer is to increase the revenue and cover the development and design costs. It should not be spamming but using the ad space decently and nicely. If a user can't pay, at least bear with ads.
I already know my idea is Vitamin and not Painkiller.. It is a simple fun app that does not solve any problem but will give a fun moment for a short time. Should i do a hard paywall? any suggestions for this kind of app
Things like this are only possible for apps that have a lot of users and where it doesn't matter if you scare away a few users. It would be very helpful if we could continue to get tips on how app developers can improve their app with FEW users and do the best they can.
I liked this even more than having guests due to the variety of high-quality tips! I feel like you shared some serious trade secrets 😂 P.S. Instead of just "Ask me anything" you should add hints for a few of those tips in the title (reaching an audience at it's source, targeting locations with ASO, etc).
Hey Steve, what do you think about not having a free version? So I have in my welcome flow a paywall with 30-day free trial but after that you either subscribe or stop using the app. Any data on this?
I'm going to push back here -- his trial-to-paid conversion rate is really low, somewhere in the ballpark of 10-20%. If this percentage were in a healthier range, I think it's still up for grabs which one is better.
