Great tutorial! Love that you used this pen and showed the way to get the thinner lines. Also interested in how you stop several and take your time on the sides of the leaves. I tend to just keep going. The little gaps make it much more interesting:)
Hi Julia! I did the workshop with you in Grun this past weekend! I spotted on IG you were doing an Inktober, so popped over to join in. Will share tomorrow my version I just did. Is it 9am Amsterdam time each day? Looking forward to tomorrow’s, will try to join live.
Thank you for this, It is a great way to ease into daily drawing. I wish I could participate live, but it is at midnight my time, so past my bedtime lol
Hi Julia, this is Cathy from Brave Brushes. Thank you SO much for doing this! I didn't have a plan for Inktober this year and was thrilled when I got the email about your daily videos and reference photos. You made it so easy. I can't do the livestreams, they are at 3 am my time, but I will be replaying them. Thanks to you and all I have learned this is the first year I am actually drawing directly with ink and not sketching it out in pencil first. You made me BRAVE and I am forever grateful!!!!
Hi Cathy! Thank you so much for your super sweet comment!❤️ I know, the time is not perfect but it should also be also doable for me😅 so I chose to do it in the morning when I usually work anyway. Have fun watching the recordings and sketching! Thank you for joining!😘
You did great. This is my first time doing inktober. I was a little nervous about just using ink because I usually draw with pencil first. This is going to be fun. I will be back tomorrow. Thanks.
Thank you for the great prompts, these daily sessions and the kind encouragement! I will miss the LIVES(because it is 1 in the morning here in Colorado, USA), but look forward to practicing daily because of you! Yay! Thanks so much!
Great tutorial. Very direct and helpful. Thank you. I was wondering if you had a video explaining how to scale correctly? I have the problem of either drawing too small or (mostly) drawing to large and my compositions don't fit the page correctly.
Do you mean when you draw on location or from a reference? In both cases I would suggest starting with the largest shapes, like a whole building or even a row of buildings instead of focusing on details. This way, you’ll exactly know how your scene will turn out. I don’t have a tutorial on this, because I guess I say it in most of my sketching tutorials, but thank you for the suggestion! I will try to take one focused on this topic.
@@julia_henze thank you so much for responding. I would love to see a video on this topic. I've seen many on proportions but none specifically on this topic.
Great and inspiring lesson on graphite sketching. It looks so that I am going to try it now. Thanks for the lesson ansd keep posting these kind of videos
I drew it along with you. I found it very hard to stop halfway like this, yet it's something you have to get used to if you're going to be sketching on the street, isn't it? I need to practice more this technique
So glad I found you! I'm going on a long trip and I don't want to take any liquids and I thought coloured pencils would be ideal and you have shown me that it is. I love your technique and your style thank you very much
There are different types of pens, acrylic markers and gloss markers from Edding. They have many different gloss colors, but gold is my favorite 😍😄 So shiny ✨
Thank you Julia! J'aime les 2 versions et ça nous montre que l'on peut s'affranchir de la référence photo et créer une version originale à notre goût ! ❤
The quality of each mark is so confident and makes such a difference. I'm having trouble with line quality. Helps so much to watch your demos. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your passion for art with us! You re-ignited my love for colored pencil media through your videos and teachings. You have given me confidence to keep showing up for myself and art practice. You are making an impact on people. I am forever grateful. ❤️
Allison, I'm blushing☺️♥️ But I'm so glad to hear that, too. Enjoy sketching, enjoy colors, and enjoy making art! It makes our lives so much more valuable and beautiful! 👩🏻🎨🥰
Thank you for this! I attended your live session and this answered my question about color selection. I always look forward to your sessions. Your positivity is great!
For lighter greens, I prefer to mix them with blues and yellows. However, for darker greens, I really like phthalo green mixed with some earth tones like red or burnt sienna or burnt umber. In my experience, it is hard to get very dark greens that aren't overly blueish by only using yellows and blues.
Thank you so much for your comment and great advice!❤️ Absolutely agree! I usually use Payne’s Grey or Indigo (a very dark blue color) mixed with one of my yellows (Nickel Azo Yellow is my favorite).
Beautiful sketches and so interesting to get a look into your pencil case! I think of the Polychromos as a soft pencil 😅 but I have never tried a Luminance pencil so I’m not sure how those feel! I have the Derwent Procolour which are my “hard” pencils - sometimes I even struggle with them feeling too hard!
Thank you, Laura!❤️ I think Polychromos is something between Luminance and Procolour which are really hard and I also struggle with them because I can’t get the color I want, also they are not as bright as I like. I would say, order a few luminance pencils and you will fall in love with them forever😄
Thank you, Angela!❤️ Some of the sketches in this sketchbook are from tutorial and workshops in Brave Brushes studio (my membership for amateur artists.
