@@ivanstiles7030 I used my old air compressor to pump up the tire and just for kicks, I hooked up the pump. It literally sucked all the air out on the up & down strokes. Hahaha. Unless I put something on backwards, this thing doesn’t pump air, it extracts air. It’s weird
We’re the gaskets still intact when you removed the rods. Most old pumps I’ve taken apart have stiff leather CUPS that are pointed downward to act like a parachute and push the air out. I saw someone use a hole that matched the desired diameter and press WET leather through it and let it dry out so it would stay “cup” shaped.
@@JamesBond-yj5lo The leather seals were long gone. Each rod has 3 washers & a nut. I made 2 new leather seals but something is wrong. I really do t think this is an air pump. I think it’s meant to suck air/liquid because it sucks on both the up & down strokes. It’s weird.

@@victorotto-y3h I still don’t understand. If both plungers are going down at the same time, where would the compressed air go?? The outlet for the hose is on top. Someone has to know how this old pump works.

@@Living-The-Dream Me either. I’m still trying to figure out what the 2nd chamber does. If both plungers are going down, how does the air go up to the hose?? It doesn’t make sense. This 100 year old technology has me scratching my coconut. Haha. Do you have any ideas First Sergeant?? I need to make a leather seal for the plunger, so I need to know if there was 1 in each chamber. Time for some research.
@@spiderlovesbeerohyeah4760 I have no idea……I know the single plungers also used to have a circle of what looked like a woven pad that looked like a cleaning pad, I assume that cleaned the inner walls of the tube as it traveled the tube length with each stroke……but I know nothing about the way they operate. As you said, you would thing one tube would be drawing air in on the up stroke and push out on the downstroke……?????? Hmmmmmmmm🧐🇺🇸
@@Living-The-Dream Yeah. The other pumps I’ve done used round leather seals that would slide up and down the cylinder which created compressed air that would be shoved out of the hose to fill the tire. @@gtcam723 Yup. I like to see how different companies tried to copy each other slightly so they wouldn’t get sued. I love the old ones. You can see how tools evolved over the years.
