Well mine too, and while looking into these bands who broke up 20-30 years before I was born, I found a lot of interesting and beautiful stories that I want to share with you guys. Great effort, but there are a lot of things I don't like about this video. The main issue with punk is CLEARLY gentrification of the genre, and that only. It has always happened, so much so that we can say that, at least in Europe, punk died in the first years of the 80s, with the gentrification of the left. I really like post punk, darkwave and death rock, but are we pretending that post punk was not in the first place a movement that started because of the youth of that era having access to more individually imprenditorial ventures, and the idea of the self made man, a lot of times using that presumption to not tackle political issues? At the start it was different, PIL, Joy Division, and other groups, crust bands starting to form around the same time, they are an exception. As much as The Smith's music is great, it has NOTHING that makes it difficult to market, literally Duran Duran and Wham were so much more edgy than Smiths. When I think about Morrissey I think about that "self-made youth" of the 80s. Post punk was way more near to the mainstream than to what derived musically from Sex Pistols, for instance crust punk and anarchopunk, CRASS, Discharge, I don't know The Mob. These are bands that directly derive from punk and still have a non-mainstream presence to this day. So I don't expect for modern "normie posers" to act differently, they listen to the music, that's the most they can do. As long as Fontaines DC are concerned, I don't think they're a great example of non-gentrified post-punk music. Their success follows the one of IDLES, and we can make the case that's the type of exposure a good Anthony Fantano's review can gift you. A way more interesting thing happening in post punk music is the merging with street punk/Oi, mainly in France but there's a scene in England and Basque countries too. Bands like Homefront (CAN), Syndrome 81, Katarsi, these are bands that engage in politics and play within an organic musical environment that I can say is the direct heir of non-gentrified punk music. As for TikTok, that stuff is just Hot Topic/scene/pop rock disguising as something more noble, it is a trend and we shouldn't really worry about it as long as people are not harassed. If we have to talk about the fetishization of goth women, it's not a matter of what's punk or goth, it's just a matter of sexual harassment and fetishization not being ok. If someone listens to the right music but still fetishizes goth women, I don't really care what he does or what he identifies as, still deserves to be punched in the face like anybody else.
i can remember my first time listening to goth music , introduced by my mother , at this time never had a picture how goths looked like , i just bought black clothing on my own , and made outfits out of them , didnt knew that i was looking like a goth until some poeple mentioned it , dressing yourself ,out of your feelings is making you what you truly are

As regards to his support for For Britain, I believe what he's actually opposed to is Islam and an ideology that prohibits homosexuality, given that he specifically made a point of commending the party leader "for wanting everyone in the UK to live under the same law". As far as I'm aware all of his other 'racist' remarks have been pertaining to animal welfare, or simply feeling sentimental about the way things were when he was young
I don't agree with everything he says and he can come across as insensitive at times, but I do think a lot of stuff gets taken out of context. I mean he even has a song called 'All the Lazy D*kes' lol. His lyrics are uniquely vulnerable and I think his sentimentality with regards to British culture comes from him having the same needy attachment style that makes him a great songwriter

i don’t think the band would’ve kept going for longer without the help of the song going viral. The definition of “saving their career” differs from person to person but i think the extension of their band’s lifetime is save

I do think calling any modern punk/goth a poser just because they don't fit your perception of the subculture is kinda dumb; the real issue is people who focus only on the aesthetic without any regard for the sociopolitical history of both genres which is integral to them in the first place :')
wait when i say they dont fit your perception i do mean specifically how some people will call others posers bc they dont dress a certain way or listen to a very specific artist, its kinda weird to reduce the genres and movements to a style of clothing and one band/artist when theres countless artists and ways of supporting the ideals and fighting for the causes which is, in my opinion, the main thing that makes someone punk or goth
Even though I like the overall albums from Oasis more than Blur - it’s undeniable that Damon Albarn has surpassed everything they’ve done with his overall career. Like if you look at Blur’s best songs and the Gorillaz discography, it’s absolutely insane what a legend Damon has become. And as this video points out Damon’s impact on the industry is huge. But purely as a rock group I still think Oasis has three perfect albums that are just killer rock records (loaded with some of the best songs of all time). However one thing I appreciated about Blur more was their diversity in sound. In comparison Oasis was more of a one note band. I think they actually benefited from breaking up because there is only so much you can do with their sound. And because their discography is small it didn’t get to a point where they wore out their welcome. Blur on the other hand took major leaps in new directions. And again I think that adventurous writing style is why Albarn was able to create the Gorillaz.
when you mentioned a certain punk band from Ireland I was certain you were going to say Gilla Band. Gilla Band is my favorite thing to come out of punk/postpunk. It's explosively creative and rich.
Honestly, punk has been complicated with exactly what the definition of punk is, whether its anti-authority, progressive, or homophobia. I've heard people say back early on, there was homophobia and racism, but then somebody else say it was progressive. Given this, and that people care more about the fashion than the culture, its best its left behind. If our movement can't even tell what its about, then how can we move forward? Personally, I feel weird when people say I "dress punk" or "look like a punk kid" because to me that just waters down punk to fashion rather than something important, like its apparent messages of progressivism. So I define myself as either just me, or a punk (true to the original definition, a worthless person). I'm more concerned about individuality and progressiveness, which I think the genre and movement should be defined for.
where I'm from Emo was a direct descendent of punk/post-punk. It was basically when punk artists played anything other than electric guitars, and the songs took on a more broader emotional palette than just anger and frustration, which is where the name came from. Other people may have different opinions, or regional stories, and a lot of time has passed since any of this mattered, I just thought I'd share my experience.
I think that both, gorillaz and blur, are magic bands in their own way. My whole childhood is blur and my teenager period so far is gorillaz. I think that you can compare blur and gorillaz because its a whole diferent music. (Im from Argentina so please forgive my english) LOVE THE VIDEO!!!!
The problem might not be what is on TikTok or how it there, but that we are there - watching it. If you don't want a problem with what's on TikTok, don't watch it. Live a real life instead.

The video started talking about "Working Class Pride" then you proceed to spend the rest of the video doing what everyone else does and trashing conservatives. MOST conservatives ARE the working class and most modern young Punks and Goths are NOT working class. back in the 80s and 90s when i was young and hanging out i ALWAYS understood that the normal working class conservative people were not the enemy regardless of how much bands whined about Thatcher and Reagan. THEY are the people that keep the gahdamn world running so that we can go out and dress weird and do out little artsy things and have fun. you complain a lot of old school punks have turned conservative, yes because EVERYTHING can be pushed too far and the world sucks when EVERYBODY is a blue haired weirdo marching in the street blocking traffic and tearing down statues and NO one od going to work and keeping things running and actually contributing to society. EVERY movement has reached their goal of equality in the Western World, so rather than just stopping and going back to normal life they make new more ridiculous goals to go complain about and fight for, so that they can continue feeling the arrogance of being a social justice warrior and feeling superior to everybody else because only THEY are fighting for the downtrodden and now everyone can see how noble they are for doing it. modern liberalism is narcissistic vanity and virtue signaling and frankly it is after power not equality and authoritarianism not freedom. Sadly the "Working Class Pride" is completely devoid of must Goths and Punks today. the counter culture from the Hippie and Beatniks days all the way up to todays screeching Antifa activist crowd have completely alienated and demonized the working class, which is just one of my many complaints. i am 52 now and i spent the second half of my teens through my entire twenties and pretty much my entire thirties in what people on the outside call the goth scene, my interests were always in the earlier 80s Deathrock scene. but i was always disappointed because all of the Goth clubs i went to never really plays Goth or Deathrock they mostly played industrial and EBM which i was not so big on, and the styles were always those big platform boots and tarn hair and corsets and stuff that was very of the time in the 90s while i was into the early 80s. and the people were so gossipy and judgmental and catty even though they are wearing skimpy lingerie, it was always just suburban kids and i was always disappointed by the scene. and i have NO idea what the fugg the scene is like now, but i see young Goth looking girls out in the world and it turns out they are into hip hop or Taylor Swift or something and not Goth at all. it really is just an appropriated mainstream style now and it is depressing. as is ANYTHING to do with Tik Tok or anybody doing stupid cringe crap trying to get clicks.
hell nah , watch the german bands toten hosen and die ärzte , they call themselfes punks but in fact they are rich mainstream suckers and this started way back before 2024
