Welcome to JChownGolf RU-vid channel. It's my mission to provide the everyday golfer with relatable, easy to understand and simple to apply golf instruction.
My philosophy on golf improvement all relies on the golfer having a complete understanding of his/her golf swing and swing faults. When a golfer achieves this level knowledge of their golf swing, then they have complete control of their own golf improvement through the use of specific simple and easy to perform drills and feels. Its my goal through this RU-vid channel to provide golfers with the knowledge and drills they need to improve and enjoy their golf.
If you want golf improvement to be easy and straight forward, then subscribe to my channel and let's enjoy golf to its fullest!
What exact jumbo grip sizes have you used ? I'm so tempted to try these, but just taking baby steps , I'm trying out plus 4 midsize , then may go jumbo max 👍
Yes what size glove do you wear? I wear small and even midsized grips give me wrist pain as doo as in one range session...I wish I could use jumbo as I also have a left miss in to out pull hook issue but I just cant
Several years ago I put jumbo grips on my clubs and got tendonitis in both elbows. Somehow they put stress on my tendons. It was very painful. I went back to regular or oversized grips and the tendonitis disappeared. I liked the jumbo grips, but I concluded they caused the tendonitis. If you get tendonitis and never had it before, then it might be the jumbo grips.
I really like the feeling of "belt buckle on left heel" and have a question regarding the face of buckel. When I feel the buckle on left heel, should I feel the buckle faces to ground or target? Thanks for your lessen always!
Great explanation. I’ve been hitting both hooks and pushes. And thought it was 2 different things, but it makes sense because I know I was early extending by not keeping the tilt, and rotating.
It feels so weird like the club is never gonna get to the ball or like it's behind me at impact but it works. I'm hearing that hiss as the ball takes off.
Pro tip: 1) Align your shoulders square to the target; 2) Drop your right foot back 6 inches to clear the hips; 3) Takeaway normally and then come down from the inside. It works all the time.
Walked into the store the other day. There was a used set of "game improvement players' irons" which had a 7 iron with a loft of a 6 iron but with a big head and low CG, married to a Tour heavy graphite shaft similar to my steel one. I usually hit my own blade 7 iron to about 170, my target carry figure, and this new fangled tech club I smashed to 190 carry LMAO
I went through a swing change last year and I've had moments of brilliance and moments of I want to give away my clubs and take up another hobby. I have started to reap the rewards over the past 4 months. Perseverance is key. A few tips that I've done for compression if anyone's interested. All of it applies to driver as well. The only differnce is I'm trying to hit up with driver: 1. Adam Prozak setup drill with weight down and back at address. This and swing around the inside of my trail leg has stopped my fat shots. 2. Full stretch of my lead lat on the take away. Secret sauce. The ball just goes further. Helps with that sling shot and coiling effect. 3. Flat to somewhat bow lead wrist at top of backswing. I emphasize not keeping the lead wrist cupped at the top. 4. No swaying. Huge game changer. I see a lot of golfers swaying. I didn't know that I was doing it til I recorded my swing. 5. Dead arms...no tension in my shoulders all the way down my arms. Speed sauce here. 6. Side bend. Secret sauce for compression and distance. Most amateur golfers don't do this. 7. Using vertical force. Huge for distance. I wrote a list of things I need to remember when hitting a full shot and kept it in my golf bag. Practice sessions are impactful when I'm working on drills. Also, I've combined a few drills in one and I call it my ultimate full swing drill. It started as an anti-shank drill and now I use it for compressing the ball. It helps with all the points I made above. Drills are vital. The most unorthodox swing is a golf swing. That's why even the best of the best work on drills. Good luck to all my fellow golfers. Remember, if you don't work at it, don't get mad or give excuses when you play poorly.
I'm in the thick of this right now. Have contemplated breaking or selling my clubs a thousand times. I practice several times a week, but when you plateau and don't see progress for a while, man, is it absolutely infuriating.
Or you go from shooting -2 to 85 then back to -2 then back to 85. This over the course of several years. Get stuck. Figure it out. Try to improve on what was working and "f" it all up again.
Wow! What a great explanation. So a person wants to think of the trailing side as a hinge to a door? The hinge stays in place while the door pivots around it.
Nice to see you out in the open. Where you are emphasising "staying centred", this apears similar to stack & tilt. I wonder what your thoughts are on S&T?
Staying centred in the backswing. Centred backswing is taught in S&T but not exclusive to S&T. S&T is good for golfers who struggle with low point control, but not a very powerful swing for most
JC:You're right - there are loads of instructors teaching hands down. The question is why does BRYSON tell people "hands in right pocket and rotate" as a swing key? That's hands down. I agree with Fishing8r below. Slo-mo of you with that Nick Price tempo shows hands almost straight down. What about pointing the handle at the target line and ball? That single concept stops a lot of bad swings in my case - no one concept works for everybody. The only issue with that is the player will PULL the handle at the ball instead of just pointing. Can you do a video on this? Do you think it has merit? Thanks. Great channel.
I don’t disagree with the message here, and fully endorse that strike is key; but swinging 10 mph faster will also add a significant amount of distance. The early swings were low-mid 70s, later swings were mid-80s plus. Still a good video and message, but RU-vid lessons aren’t silver bullets.
@@martymcflytriple0007 completely agree, and I’m not trying to be a troll or a jerk, just trying to draw attention to some other factors that will increase those distances.
It's always a fundamental issue with me when I'm out of whack. The hip bump Jonathan is talking about is a prevalent issue with me when I'm not striking it right. Perfect timing for me Jonathan, thanks for the lesson.
Great video, I am also dealing with the pulls . I’ve noticed personally if I keep the left arm straight . I am loosing at least 10 mph club speed . So I do hit it straighter but a lot shorter. So where would you increase the speed with the swing ?
What a great explanation. I've been dealing with this the last couple of years, and my frustration at the face being closed at impact has led me to having it open at address so it will be square at impact. Sort of works, but not reliably so, and my distance has been cut back by 10 to 20 percent. Thanks for this video! Cheers.
Great explanation and immediately employable tips for correcting coming out of posture. Reason 3 exactly matched my issue. One small bucket later, I'm on my way to much better consistency. Thank you.
