Hi, I'm Steve and welcome to my channel! I'm an amateur technology enthusiast that likes to share recent projects or problems I've had to overcome. I try to make my videos easy to follow so that a random, casual viewer can recreate the same scenario as I did with success. Videos can range from hackintosh related, soldering, gaming, coding, and more. I'm a fan of trying out new things and hopefully my videos also inspire others to try something new themselves. If you enjoy my videos and want to keep up to date with what I recently worked on, become a subscriber today! -Steve Kofskie, 4/6/2020
Hi, I can boot my XP machine but would still like to migrate it to my new computer as VM. In that case would I have to clone the original drive? thanks!
Thanks for making this video! It's been very helpful. I was able to set up a LaserJet 1012 on my daughter's PC running Windows 10 using this information. My only gotcha was the port. I didn't have a DOT4 port, so I used the USB001 virtual printer port. Works like a charm. Thanks again!
I came across this video by asking Perplexity how I could run my old PC system as a virtual machine on my new PC. Thank you, thank you. I have not done it yet and don't know what problem I may encounter. But this is a fantastic start.
Did your XPS originally come with Win 7? So at 2:04 the small access cover can be removed? It also covers some laptop info? Found a tossed out Dell XPS Win 7 (may have water damage & defective battery) laptop. Thank you
I just wish Nintendo would add joystick axis inversion. They added full button remapping, which i guess is useful for people who truly hate default controls that are typical of most nintendo 1st party games. But frankly stick axis inversion i think is way more helpful, especially cuz alot more recent indie games for some reasson don't come with that option anymore, or with Resident Evil 4/5 on switch, their gyro controls work terribly and require manual inversion to get them to work properly
I recommend that you use the funnyplaying usb c mod as it does a few things: Usb C to C Usb A to C Also it can do usb C to audio jack if the dongle does not have a DAC. No fast charging as the hardware isnt cabable for it. But more compatibility options is great. As for battery I also recommend the funnyplaying battery that was designed by Makho as theres a huge improvement in battery capacity and its more optimized for ips screens. Nice finished product, keep up the good work.
Nope, doesn't work with my Laserjet 1012 and Windows 10 machine. My printer also doesn't show up as "Unspecified" in Control Panel. It does show up under port "Dot4_001 (HP Printing Device)", but any print jobs do not show up in the printing queue. I get no errors. Windows happily accepts any print requests and sends them....somewhere. I have no idea where that is. Printer worked great when I was still running Windows 7 though.
I wouldn't recommend turning a HDD or SSD, into a virtual disk, since the space that is taking the image of the physical drive is usually taking a significant amount of space to save it and, besides that the virtual drive will need a lot of resources to run and so you'll need to have the hosting physical PC endowed with plenty of RAM, a multi core CPU, and a powerful GPU! Just because it's possible it doesn't mean it's worth it! You've been warned!
You are correct however old pcs like these have such small hard drives that it isn't really an issue. Same goes for ram and cpu cores. Modern computers are so powerful compared to xp era machines that it isn't really a problem.
Hi I have a question, Im in Europe importing this from the US: can the power cord be replaced and if so is it a "figure of 8" connector on the PSU side ?
Great instructions, unfortunately, it doesn't work for me. We have a site that needs to open in IE mode to run Silverlight (yes, I know it's not supported but we can't re-write the site), but what happens is that it just keeps saying "To open this page in IE mode, re-install Edge with administrator privileges" and then just keeps opening another new tab and repeats the message. Yeah, if I don't stop it, it will add tabs indefinitely. We've tried re-installing Edge as administrator, but it makes no difference, so we're stuck, and to make things worse, this Silverlight page is critical to our business, so it HAS to work, and it does on existing machines, but when we install Windows 10 22H2 on new computers, that's when this problem comes up and we don't know what is causing it. We know it's permissions related because if we log into a new machine as domain admin, the Silverlight page opens fine, it's only when a user logs in that the never-ending tabs keep happening. Making them local admin or power user doesn't work though. :( Also, running Edge as domain admin under the user account does not work either.
Update: Well, it turned out to just be a wonky Windows installation. We re-installed from scratch, and now we don't have any issues getting our Silverlight page to open in IE mode. Go figure. 🙄
I would like to know if I have a question and I would like an answer I got a job connecting several types of medical devices with printers, and I was told to use PCL3 and PCL5 According to the video, pcl5, for example, is to search in Google for the type of printer and obtain the definition, then go to the calculator, add the printer and definition, and choose from the windows on pcl5. Is that all Or did I see that you write in Google download pcl5 like writing hp universal printer driver pcl5 What is the difference, I do not know, sorry for the length, and thank you for your cooperation, Professor
Didn't try with the HP Laserjet 3055 driver, but it works on Windows 11 with the LaserJet 1015 driver on the same list. The important printer options seem to work fine too.
The algorithm for XP activation showed up online around 2021 which obviates the need to call Microsoft. It's a small execute file that accepts the code provided by XP during the activation process. It outputs an activation code, the one Microsoft would have given by phone or via its servers that ended in 2014. This execute file does the same as what an activation web link given to the customer by Microsoft by phone does.
Thank You So Much! I wish there was a controller that natively connected to the switch with the Xbox style layout. I will need to try this out on a cheap or used controller to see how well I can replicate it. Thank you again!
Hey I was wondering because I have a Pokémon blue cartrage and mines broken I'm about to beat the game I just need to beat the final boss but it broke I don't have the right tools can I send it to you
I tried the exact steps with a Win7 64bit hdd. Didn't work. When it comes time to boot I get a blank screen with "Missing operating system" at the top left. However, that hdd I pulled from a laptop and it was working/booting fine on the laptop. Not sure what step I'm missing or maybe if Win7 requires something in addition to the steps listed here.
I love my HP 1012 so much. I've owned it for 18 years, and it's still going strong. No DRM for ink, and it still works great, thanks to tips like this. I hope I never have to upgrade.
You lost me, in seconds. I've a XP computer that was stored. Now, like yours, it wont boot, even though it did, worked fine when I put it away. Now, I want to use the programs on that computer. The repair service I went to said I'm sceewed. All he could do was retrieve the data files, no programs. I'm bummed. Where do I go? I want this old conputer to work again.
I love it! I was a bit worried about the setup because I read mixed reviews, but the setup was so easy ru-vid.comUgkxciSwynMJ7PnUvvx11rewiu-yFBkZTl53 , I literally set it up in under 5 minutes. The print quality is amazing and it comes with 6 months free of instant ink which is definitely a plus! This is an amazing all-in-one printer for pretty cheap, I 100% recommend this and would definitely buy again.
My printer (connected to imac) decided to display all 3 lights at the same time. This happened after constantly clearing the jammed paper. I thought spending $50 on 2 toner cart's would prevent jams, but nooo. HP no longer has the drivers on their website and the CD that came with this printer is older than currently installed. I may have to explore if there might be a broken tab/part somewhere that's producing a notice "the printed needs attention", no shhhhiiitttt. If anyone out there discovered a solution, plz share and maybe the printer gods will repay you. tnx
Steve, after using your directions I had my HP laserjet 1012 working until today. Then it quit. Going through your directions again, I found that the HP laserjet 3055 PCL 5 is no longer there after the Windows update step. Do you have a new suggestion of which of the HP laserjet drivers now still works?
