Hi Steve. Hope you’re doing well. Those foam bugs work so well, don’t they? And they’re easy to tie, so the tying to catching confidence goes way up when something eats it over and over again. I’m still sweating it out doing my deck. I got the top surface completed and it looks really nice so far. Now to build the steps, hmm… c u again soon..
Hey Tom! Yes sir, Beetles and foam bugs do catch fish "especially late summer and fall" when the terrestrials get big! Glad your getting your deck done and have fun with those steps! Hey Steve and wifey. I have no idea how many smallies or stix you caught, but it was fun to paddle along with you. My kayaks are still dusty and in storage. We’re rebuilding the deck and usually hang them from the framework, so we’re SOL right now. Some saltwater fishing for summer flounder or ‘fluke’ is on the menu when it’s too hot to do the deck. But it’s been a slow spring and summer season this year across the board, except the trout fishing, it was superb in NJ this spring. C u on the next flick.

Building decks is NOT to fun but, the enjoyment that comes from having a nice deck to sit, read, BBQ, Tie flies or just spend time w family is worth the effort. Steve, you nailed this pattern! I tied a bunch up in preparation for the white perch run at lake James in March. Unfortunately I had my 2nd knee surgery and missed the "run". We then sold our boat. You really had me "worried" when you started adding the ribbon. Let me know how they fish

Hi Steve. This fly is very similar to a fly my buddy ties for bonefish. It’s called the Stealth fly and is tied with dumbbell eyes to get it down quickly with the diamond braid secured along thee sides of the body. He then coats the entire body with epoxy or UV resin tapered down to the tail. Very effective pattern too. Thanks Steve and Joshua.
Hey Tom! That fly sounds interesting, I'll have to Google the stealth jig. I've tied Glass minnows with uv resin and diamond braid but I'd love to see how he ties the Braid on the side's. @@blackflycreations Hey Steve. I tried looking for it online, but didn’t see what I was referring to. Perhaps I’ll look in my box to see if I have it and send you a picture. It’s basically the same thing as your video, but you poke the hook eye through the flat braid and pull the braid laterally over the dumbbell eyes of a brightly colored fly tying it off at the tail leaving some braid to pick out as flash at the bend. Coat it epoxy and harden into a flat bottomed wedge shaped fly that rides hook up, looks and swims very stealthy and catches bonefish like mad - especially if fishing it in a ‘mud’. That’s a cloud of silt in the water caused by feeding fish rooting around the bottom for crabs shrimp and other yummy things.
Hi Steve. Cool discovery and no doubts. But, if you visit one of my favorite dry fly spots, you’ll find lots of trees with MY flies fruiting on those limbs! You’re definitely a little out there - and that’s how I found you - cause I’m a little out there too. Love to see you having fun.

Amazon is notorious for selling Chinese forgeries of good or high-quality American products. The number one problem with the Chinese forgeries is they are not worth a hot steaming pile of excrement. Stick with the REAL name brand products. They may be a little more expensive, BUT YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Rite Bobbins are some of the best bobbins on the market and I have several and have never had a single problem out of any of them.
It's unfortunate that companies copy name brands and sell them as originals. When I have items manufactured over seas or worldwide, I make sure they go through a US inspector and we do a lot of product testing before launching. Japan manufacturers quality and I have a couple manufacturers I've met in person but would never copy cat a name brand with cheap junk. You have to have quality control no matter where it's made. Thats a great question! I think the blender "depending on the blades" could possibly mix some materials that are super light like feather clippings & soft rabbit fur, but I can't recommend it. The biggest difference between the coffee grinder and a blender is the coffee grinder rotates at a very fast rpm and has sharp blades, where as the blender is much slower with dull blades. Sorry I can't give a better answer but who knows maybe it would work! Be careful if you try it, I'd wear eye protection and be prepared for fire! Haha.. "Funny but serious" I learned that even the coffee grinder if ran too long can catch on fire "short 5 second bursts" is much safer. Hope this helps and let me know how it goes! Steve

Hey Michael great question! The holes are so I can keep the box upside down and only pull small amounts of dubbing out while tying. I tried to recreate the name brand dubbing boxes that are kinda pricey. Hope this helps and thank you for watching! Steve
