Possibly the finest video in the history of RU-vid. I love these guys and I literally laughed my arse off. It’s the matter-of-fact, no-nonsense proper Yorkshiremen Pakistani blend that is just beautiful
22:55 "Some DH of a Turkish driver tried to push in front of me. He smashed into the van, bent the wing and ripped the bumper off." hahaha voiceover is comedy gold
I've seen this doc before and its famous 😂 lol However I felt bad for Azad and his son, I felt it was harsh Fazal referred to him as 'clown' and 'dickhead' on a doc that the entire nation would end up viewing. Not nice.
I love this, i've seen it so many times and the commentary is just superb 😂😂😂 Well made too, unbelievable! Secretly wishing I can do the same journey some day from here in Amsterdam to Pakistan. ❤❤❤❤
I really enjoyed this. I was in Pakistan twice in 1997 , once for a month in Feb 1997 and 9 weeks in end July to early Oct 1997. I had EID and Ramadan there. It was great, very friendly people. I thoroughly recommend it especially Chitral and I wish I'd spent more time in Chitral, Tirich Mir at Shogram where there was a public holiday and a spectacle of Polo match and so many people travelled there to the highest village before Tirich Mir base camp the highest mountain in the Hindu Kush at over 25000 ft. It was great to see the carrabean guy going with you. He will have such lovely memories for his whole life and you have so many surprises, meet so many different nationalities like I did at the Tourist camp Islamabad where I was broke but shared a room with 2 kind and interesting Kurdish refugees who told me so much of their life stories and how much they struggle having no country. Doesn't politics stink but the people normally are lovely and often the poorer they are the bigger their smiles and hearts. God bless you all and thank you for sharing your travels here. I'd love to go myself in a truck, minibus or privately by local transport and now Afghanistan is open too I got a letter of recommendation for Iranian transit visa in 1986 but due to time constraints I flew with my brother to Delhi then went to Nepal after 5 days in Delhi as it was so full of people and touts we weren't used to but I've been many times since mainly staying in the mountains and valleys like the Yarkhun Valley. There were Shiite Muslims in Yarkhun valley who wore very colourful clothes and they really were a delight to meet as were Kailash and Sunni and afghans of different cultures including ones from panshir valley who were refugees. The education and seeing life on travels is truly a blessing and education even if some things are shocking but that's often counteracted by the warmth, humanity, kindness of the people who put many of us in the west to shame.
I tried to find out about this film and it seems it was probably made by a production company for Channel 4. The person who produced and directed it also produced Tucker's Luck (wasn't that a spinoff from Grange Hill?) and 'On the Move' which gave Bob Hoskins his first big break on TV. Unfortunately it looks like Fazal may have been involved in some questionable business practices (or someone else with the same name in Bradford also owned a taxi company). In 2001 he also had a bus company which had three vehicles banned from the road and was told that "he did not have the money to run a bicycle, let alone four vehicles." Then in 2014 he had his public vehicle operator's licence suspended for the fourth time after he operated more vehicles than he was licensed to. Authorities also found forged vehicle operator's license discs at his home.
I wonder where they are now and if his mum at 4:42 is still around. If not, it must be emotional seeing her hug you and remembering these years. Society has lost its sense of community.
The narration was good but could have done without the nasty comments on poor Azad. It says more about Fazal that he can dog on his pals for the camera. Clearly Azad was left out in the editing of this documentary. The production team also done Azad a disservice.
Man thank you so much for posting this... I can't describe it. Its got a happy, nostalgic and gentle feel to it. Really good watch and a window into a really warm adventure amongst friends. Thank you 👏
