I think honey blonde on the ends of ur hair would look so cute 😍 When I want to do something different to my hair, I dye my ends, lol...I've bleached my ends and added color and i've had mine honey blonde before❤
Yes and no. I started out good for 8 months, every two weeks, but I tapered off my appointments because of my stylist moving. I learned the hard way my high porosity hair didn’t like it even when I went to the stylist regularly. I forgot to mention I was also maintaining a Perm. That was many years ago, but it took a while and a cut to get it back in order.
Professional or not here’s the deal. Color is a chemical change period! Your hair texture/pattern will change. Even with the best care the change will grow out and you will have to transition/chop it off. That said, if you don’t mind losing inches go for it. Also Staying within 2-3 levels of your original color is safest. Sounds like you know all of this. 😊
No! We a professional. Henna and his dye does not work well together. Make sure all henna has grown out of your hair before adding color at home or professionally. High porosity hair will become more dry and brittle with dye and bleach. Highlights require lifting the color from your stands with bleach. You have worked to hard and long for healthy hair. Don't ruin it with color. Try clip on hair first to see if you like a color change.
Thank you for reminding me about the need to grow out henna before dyeing my hair. I totally forgot! Since I haven’t used henna in years, I’m sure it’s mostly grown out by now. If I do decide to color my hair, I’m thinking about just lightening the ends. Highlights or dyeing my whole head scares me lol. I appreciate your insight! 💓
Hey curl twin! I’m thinking the same thing, except I want copper w/highlights. My parents are used to dying hair at home but I plan on going to the salon w/them paying for it. I’m not gonna go too crazy w/coloring bc I’m prematurely graying and I’m only 27 and a half 😅 I inherited this from my grandpa and he was full gray before 40. So I’m gonna wait before experimenting bc it’s already changing my hair texture and loosening it 😭
Hey twin! How are you? 😊 Copper would be such a pretty color for highlights! You’re lucky to have parents who know so much about hair coloring. What’s making you choose the salon for it this time? Girl, I’m sure you still look fabulous with your grays-they’re like natural highlights, right? lol! I hope everything goes smoothly with your highlights! ❤️
@@AfroKhadisiac I’m hanging in there, I’m gonna graduate w/my first bachelor degree soon! They are natural highlights, I wouldn’t mind if it didn’t take my curl texture w/it 😭 My parents tend to have mishaps w/bleach and aren’t used to dealing w/natural hair like mine. My mom is a type 3B/3C while my dad relaxes his hair. W/my hair changing color and texture, I feel asking a professional is best for me. I’m not sure if my porosity is the same, one of them came out as shed hair so I’ll see. A professional would understand the chemistry of it and will decide if my hair is healthy enough for it. I also watched too many hair dye fails that I rather not do it myself 😅
Dying/ lifting color wasn't the issue for me; it was when I did color stripping to get to the next bright color. I suggest dying/lifting once and then using the color wheel for a complimentary shade if you want another bright color next. Natural hair always goes back to black/brown so beautifully, it's always worth being able to have fun with it.
Hmm..I’m not very familiar with color stripping. What does it involve? I think I’d be happy with a slight lift from black to brown, but ultimately, I’d love to go for honey blonde at the ends. Is it common to go from black to that shade of blonde in one session? I’m not really sure how that works. Thank you for watching & commenting Maxine! 🥰
@@AfroKhadisiac Color removers or strippers work to remove old color without using bleach but were _way_ more damaging than bleach was on my Hi-Po hair. Lifting to a honey blonde with bleach for the first time will be fine and I think you should go for it. My pattern didn't change after that first session and we have very similar hair. Hair color just gets addictive, so wanted to give you a heads up if you start wanting to try other colors lol Have fun!
I’ve also been thinking about coloring my hair. Been thinking about it for years and I need to bite the bullet. I colored my relaxed hair before (the same bronze/honey blonde I want now) and my hair was fine, then, so I know it will be fine with natural hair. I DEFINITELY want a professional to do mines, though. Box dye eats up the hair unless you have unicorn strands. My last color while relaxed was by a professional and my hair was fine. I did end up transitioning right after that color, though.
Right, Lakacia! It’s such a complex decision because of the risks involved lol. 🫣 That’s why I'm learning more towards just dyeing the ends. If it doesn’t work out, I’m okay with trimming a few inches. I’m glad to hear you had a positive experience with color when you were relaxed. What do you think is holding you back from trying it again now that you’re natural? I agree that it’s probably best to see a professional for this kind of service.
How about try the Curlsmith temporary wash out color? They have a gold that on dark hair would look honey blonde like the examples you showed. This might help you see what the color would look like and it washes out the next wash. I have been considering this too using a semiperm or temporary color in my hair to see if I would look good with the color. Also I have heard that coloring your hair makes it high porosity already and they recommend deep conditioning weekly and treatments but you are already doing that soooo you probably don’t have to change anything
Oooh, you just gave me something else to add to my Black Friday wishlist Tj lol. Thank you. 🥰 I haven't tried anything from Curlsmith, but I am intrigued now. Do you know how long the temporary color lasts? Until the next wash day? ; Yes! I've heard that too. The color will make the hair more porous. The only thing I'm thinking may change is how often I moisturize my hair. It may need to be more frequent. As you mentioned, I am already deep conditioning weekly & doing protein treatments monthly.
@@AfroKhadisiac here is link to another RU-vid curly girl with similar hair. She is using the red but you can see the color is subtle but nice. The hair color washes out with shampoo. I am seven seen others do twist outs with it versus wash n go. ru-vid.comdNHJR_hIzBY?si=vwiIS_pAJfpkC-cZ
Tj, Yes! I was thinking the same thing.I was using henna color thinking I was safe😬 I didn't realize henna color was a permanent color over time. Unfortunately henna stop working for me. When I went to temporary color it would not color due to the henna coating my strands. So I had to slow cut the henna out of my hair! So when I want some color I my jar😆
Omg I been wanting to color my hair for the longest but I’m so scared of it falling out. I have high porosity fine hair too. So that makes me even more scared
Thank you soo much Lana! 🩷 This was filmed back in August, so im not 100% sure which blush I was wearing back then but my faves are Toasted Almond by Black Radiance & Summertime Wine by Fenty Beauty
Glad you're back at it again! Always love your tips and tricks on taking care of natural high porosity hair. I recently cut off my relaxed and back natural twa, color treated with a copper color. Definitely a new hair growth journey ✨️ ❤😊
Black women's hair issues are commonly linked to vitamin deficiency mainly iron. Black women have more hepcidin, than white women which may indicate lower iron absorption. No iron doesn't grow hair but the reason some black women are losing hair and dealing with breakage is due to low iron.
