Uncle Larry is describing confidence. How does a young person best get the confidence they need to do the best they can IN THE PRESENT MOMENT. Not worrying about getting better before trying to shine. Uncle Larry’s confidence advice for doing one’s best in the present moment could help in anything a younger person does. Hardest advice to give which can make the most difference.
This interview completely explains why Uncle Larry's musicial vocabulary and breadth of musical taste is so immense - he grew up in the lion's den as a youth and that is something that school will not teach you. Then again, maybe since we have had very, very similar upbringings I'm partially bias on this notion. But lets face it, music schooling is a con that really offers so little once you find yourself in the trenches. Thanks for digging in the dirt on this one Miles.
Pat's the best. Lowkey wittiest person I've ever known. Good friend who's never not been there since we met. Its' been a few years, but when we see one another it's as if I saw him last week. Great interview.
It’s a small microphone that is typically used to record interviews. Interestingly, they have also been repurposed at times to clip on the sound hole of acoustic guitars with great results!
Oh, man... I am that guy who sits in his "little math office" -- actually a pretty big office now that i am associate dean -- and wonders about what could have been. Good job, dude!
Brewster is the man! I met him when I first moved in Nashville in 91 and he was always such a great guy and totally immersed, invited me to his Michael W rehearsals in 93/94 - such a great guy! Thanx for posting
There is lav mic clipped on his shirt that makes contact with the body of the guitar when he leans forward. That caused interference with the pickups and created the sound.
Unless my a beginner what? Sorry, grammar joke, yeah no they're talking about the tone the electric guitar is outputting, it's got a kind of almost acoustic sound to it y'know?
No these aren’t acoustic pickups. You can only get that sound through amp modulators or if you have an electric acoustic or even a hollowbody guitar. All he’s doing is catching the A string with the pick and alternate picking down after.
@opie9617 I did spread it all over youtube that I didn't know what it is Cmon you guys are are in audio that's why you are watching Just dumb Google it before crying what is a lav.....omg low iq
@senna138 That's a pretty good deal for that guitar, in my opinion. A case would be a bonus at that price. If you can get along with a short scaled guitar, you might like it. They're Made in Japan and the one I have is a good one. I'm sure most of them are. The controls are interesting on it. Not complicated but different. Once you figure them out, it's a pretty versatile guitar.
@senna138 Not sure I had you tagged in my reply to your question. See the thread if you haven't seen it. Just to be clear i wanted to add, the one I have and the one in the video are "Blacktop HH Specials " and are made in Japan. There are a few different "Blacktop HH" guitars (no special) which are different guitars, they have different controls and most are made in Mexico. I haven't played or owned any of those and can't vouche for them. 700 for the MIJ version is a good price, if its in good condition in my opinion. I'll vouche for that.
