McClellan Heights and the East Village were once an army training camp named Camp McClellan. Established in 1861, it was renamed Camp Kearney in 1863 when it started housing members of the Sioux tribe as prisoners.
It can be but keep this in mind not much goes on over here as far as violent crimes so the police really have nothing to do and that can create issues since they are more prone to pull you over for the most bogus reasons. In Davenport the crimes are a bit more severe so they are focusing on those. There is a saying about davenport and that is you really have to be doing something so utterly stupid to gain the polices attention. In bett just having a thirdbrake light out will gain the attention to the bettendorf police
I talk and text 35 States in this country since 2003 when the state sending their taxes no longer have tax money taken to balance the federal government's budget why do you think we have a 32 trillion dollar deficit these 32 states all receive more money than they actually sent in as bailouts an average of 265 billion a year that they divide up the bankrupt the federal government the Republican party is destroying America from within their purposely bankrupting Medicare Medicaid Public Schools the post office in veterans hospitals by not taking tax money from 35 States yet these states are allowed to abuse and use these programs
When the state of Iowa sends in their taxes since 2003 they become a welfare state they get 3 billion taken from Medicare Medicaid Public Schools the post office and veterans hospitals to balance their state budget and their schools and their pension plans States like Wisconsin Illinois and Minnesota all have between 2 billion and 12 1/2 billion taken every year to bankrupt them I talk and text
The great thing about living in the Quad Cities is, it doesn't matter if you live in Iowa or Illinois, we treat all of the towns like one. Then again, maybe it's just me. Even the QC Area towns, like Port Byron, Le Claire, Geneseo, Clinton, Milan, Blue Grass, feel like family. Find a place, settle in, and go exploring.
Just avoid magnolia area. Or basically any part that is behind Ramada inn. That's the bettendorf hood. 23 years ago it was ok. But in bettendorf houses are not exactly on the market very long. But now there are all sorts of homes for sale over there. Used to see maybe two at the most and now there are dozens of them. Folks are leaving that area for a reason
@oldskolacura9798 bettendorf isnt that bad granted most of the areas ive been to on my part of town are mostly Snubs and karens or big familys that can afford 3 car garage and 400k or more size home
Here are the reasons I left Davenport after 50 years of living there. 1-The city government doesn't work to improve the infrastructure. The streets are horrible, the sewer pipes haven't been replaced in 50+ years in some areas and the downtown is littered with abandoned or derelict buildings. 2- The disaster of the Davenport Hotel Apartments collapse and how the elected officials refused to acknowledge their failure in preventing it. 3- The violent crimes and the gangs are out of control. The police aren't quick to respond unless the problems are in the nicer areas or at the mall. Areas that are south of Locust Street hear gunshots a lot of the time, but the police rarely respond. 4- Homelessness and panhandling are problems throughout the city. I understand that every city has its share of homeless communities, but I don't see the panhandling in the other cities the way that I see in Davenport. My advice would be to look at the surrounding cities and towns if you're moving to the QCA.
I’m across the river in Rock Island but work in Davenport. Getting close to finally getting to move away from here. It’s not a horrible area but I’m definitely over all of the sameness. It’s been a pretty great place to raise our kids but now that they are grown it’s time to move on.
west des moines iowa is perfect. infrastructure is brand new, clean streets top flight schools etc. anyone complaining about rush hour traffic in des moines area has lived a very sheltered life. it is infinitely worse in most major cities
I would recommend living in North Sioux City, South Dakota because they do not have income tax. But do your grocery shopping in Sioux City, Iowa because Iowa doesn't have grocery taxes. It's a nice area though, definitely some neighborhoods you'd want to avoid but overall a great place. Sioux falls is an hour to the north and Omaha is an hour to the south so if there's any shopping or restaurants you can't find in Sioux City there's a good chance they aren't too far away. If you can afford it the Dakota Dunes neighborhood in North Sioux City is an excellent location.
What i need is more options to find or afford an apt or rent to own small home or a good affordable trailer homeeventually cause i work at the new dollar tree currently on middle rd in bettendorf, ia and want to be able to also run my bicycle and small engine repair shop im trying to get off the ground by running it from home which is both bringing it to me and a mobile service
If living in bett keep one thing in mind that even with rentals if you live in a building that only has 4 units you are paying water sewer and trash. Best bet is perhaps a place like chateau knoll. But where you work that's a nice stretch by bike.
@oldskolacura9798 thanks its not that bad of a trip from chateau knoll google map says a 7 minute bike ride compared to my trip now cause i live on carriage place drive bettendorf ia
I am always watching your videos the reason is my daughter family are coming there She is a nurse she will work in Davenport in genesis medical center but we are living here in California my daughter will come here by 2nd week of September she’s in the Philippines
@killamikebgx3 probably because it doesn't have any poor neighborhoods. As opposed to davenport, where they stretch for miles. It is not the splendor of bettendorf that garners such commentary, it's the absence of ratchetry
Well the cost of live is half and houses are $245k less and I live an hour and 45 mins east in dekalb Illinois. Bout the same size of my home town with better wages better schools half the cost of living. Less taxes and isn’t far from family I plan on moving there in a few years.
Im from there and i lived like 5 minutes away from downtown Iowa i just had to cross the bridge but me and my family moved just because we didn’t want snow
I'm within a minute walk of a hy-vee. Traffic sucks at certain times of the day. I've seen vehicles rear-end each other in front of my house. The last accident, a car ended up in my front yard.
@LIVINGINTHEQUADCITIES sure i doing gaming videos usually but im hoping to eventually start another channel doing projects ane repair tutorials and stuff for my business
Better sidwalks and more useful trails that can help get around town im looking into building an asult size pedal car but also where im Allowed to im also looking into making a riding mower into a golf cart law/ slow moving vehicle legal as another source of transportation
Thanks to 2 idiot drivers i cant drive for awhile so i got to bike ride and other sources of transportation i can take advantage of to stay dependent and get around.
I want to help people in bettendorf with my small business im a service shop for bicycles and small engines. Right now its just a hobby/side hussle until i get it off the ground. Moore mobile repairs on facebook. But im hoping to change the name eventually to moore repair service
I live in that part of town where that iron tee was built. Im at carriage place dr in my friends parents house they could use to finish those trails and sidewalks in that area like finish adding that trail from the that round about that takes you to middle rd to the hopewell and middle road for example
Theres also seems the lack of affordable apts too theres way more affordable apts in davenport then bettendorf. And depending on what part of town there lacking or coukd really use more trails and sidewalks and or finish connecting new and existing ones together.
Ok, my turn. I've lived here since 79'. Grew up on Kirkwood on the Eastside. It was a lot of fun growing up here. Nice middle class homes. The Heights were where the wealthier lived, because you had a great view of the sunsets and natural park and water connection feel. Where the Westend (that floods) is where the poorest in town lived. The Quad Cities and Davenport are the only spot where the Mississippi goes East and West. In the early 80's and 90's it was nice here. A lot of great memories. Now lets talk about other things. THIS TOWN IS A SH*THOLE NOW! The town is growing Northeast expanding all the while neglecting the West End. They now have a food desert as the groceries store is closed (and not because of theft). Now let's talk about crime. Oh, this place has turned into a crime ridden gangster's playground. We're 3 hrs West of Chicago so their folks move here and bring their bs with them. The whole lower Eastside is crime riddled. Right behind The Village is gang infested areas. Shootings all the time! Town is just too crowded now. The police maybe 1% of the time pull over speeders (driving crazy is out of control). Cops are too busy working the grids of the bad areas like where I grew up which is now gang infested. I live out in the country now and love it! There is nothing to do at night in Davenport. Everything closes by like 10pm. Yeah, don't move here. THIS PLACE IS AN OVERCROWED SH*THOLE! But, I love the country in Iowa! God's land.
Why do the people of Davenport keep electing and reelecting fiscally irresponsible people? The city is run by a good ole boy program; the city council and mayor are a joke. Taxes and fees are ridiculous. The condition of the streets is disgraceful. The city could be so much more dynamic, too bad the leadership isn't. We prefer living outside of Davenport, a city where we were born and raised. For us, smaller town, rural , is a better deal. Love the baseball in summer and the hockey in the winter.
Im from vermont, and im looking to move to Iowa as well. Being on ssdi just makes sense. The cost of living in vermont is getting out of hand. 7 dollars for a gallon of milk, just nuts.
Alex, when I lived in Chicago I've never had any allergies in my life but similar to your wife, I developed year round allergies 😅 Worse in spring/summer but it's managable! Just take the medicine and hope that one day my body can adjust to the location. 🙏🏽
Ahhh! The Davenport Farmers Market is THE best thing to do on summer weekends. Frontstreet brewery, Renegades Kombucha, and Meatheads are some of my favorite stands to visit weekly. Loved hearing the locals perspectives, sometimes I forget how diverse the QC can be and its beautiful ❤ Have to agree with the young fellow- Bettendorf, Davenport, & Moline are definitely up and coming areas but Rock Island's gotta keep up! 😉
Ive learned so far in my time in Davenport you really got to be careful or really look into landlords if your renting cause me and my friends got screwed over by 2 different landlords in davenport and apt on the coner of 7th st and farnam st and 816 e high st the 1st one was a rental company that supposedly shut down or disbanded its office at one point and had a had a single person take over control over that apt and wanted to evict us cause we was claimed to have caused a bug problem and caused issues that wasnt true other than we did end up helping a couple friends that took up more space than you are allowed for a 2 bedroom apt so we moved to the second place i mentioned which didnt look bad but was in worse shape then it 1st appeared old plumbing non working air conditioning we had the second floor apt which was 3 bedrooms one bath but we also had an attic space we was allowed to fix up and make 2 extra rooms the landlord agreed to let us all move which obviously wanted us to do the work and fix up our half of the apt for them and failed it was abit to pricy for what needed to be done that whole building needed to be redone badly and lost some stuff and we should have figured right away we would have been screwed from the beginning cause me my now ex gf and only 2 others was named on the apt agreement but she only wanted at least 1 of us to sign it she didnt have us all on it and have us all sign it and we got hit with an eviction after a couple useless court hearings to stall for time to find a new place to move and idk if it still is or not but last i seen a month or 2 ago it has a red tag meaning it was condemned and is unsafe to live or rent it cause of plumbing water damaged mold electrical issues i mean the place was build in the 1900s im pretty sure it was a 2 story house that was Butchered into 2 apts one bigger than the main floor and not done properly or lacked proper care the last few years and found out some time after we moved in there was a few tenants that moved out hand complained about the lack of care from both the previous landlord and the current one that owned it when we moved in. But i did learn one thing most of the apts i could afford on my own would be in davenport than what can be found more so than i can find in bettendorf side of town
I look for things to do here and well there is NOTHING to do here literally! You can only go to the park and well thats about it unless you want to be drunk or high there are tons of watering holes here.
