Wow, this was a really great film and awesome bts-content. Thank you so much! I'm an aspiring film maker and to me this seems really under appreciated.
I haven't seen the J-Lo film so I can't really comment on the similarities. I'll confess my heart definitely skipped a beat when I saw the title and poster of her in snow with the gun. Kind of an eerie feeling but hopefully just a coincidence. Have you seen it?
It's good to see other filmmakers who started out like that. Would be an honor if you check out one of my first short films, that i made around the same time as you did this one hahaha. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Bg88mvtxrU4.html&ab_channel=FranzOzean I try to embrace them now, cause I thought there were lost...
Wow, this looks very impressive! Did I correctly spot the red halation applied the same way I did in the Film Riot challenge last year? It all looks very organic! If I can ask you a question, how do you get such a clean key, especially with the hair? I always struggle with that, especially when shooting log footage.
Thank you! Well spotted regarding the halation but no, my method is a lot worse than yours and more unpredictable😂 I luma key the brightest spots, make them reddish orange, pump up the exposure and blur. Every shot needed a bunch of tweaking. I'm actually working on a totally new (and more accurate) film look. So fun messing around with a vintage film look! Regarding green screen I think too few know about the Key Cleaner. There's a preset in AE with Keylight (set to intermediate) + Key Cleaner + Advanced Spill Suppressor. That's does the trick for me. I often "over-correct" the SLOG3 footage with heavy contrast and saturation, key it and use that as an alpha for the original SLOG3. Hope this helps!
Inspirational, I appreciate this! Im going to begin filming a short soon and I'm nervous. Im hoping it translates on camera like yours. Where do you find actors?
I asked an actor friend of mine and he recommended the main guy for the part. Other than that it's just people I know. If you're well prepared, surrounded by people that are willing to help and take your time you should be golden. Good luck with the project!👍
Superb and swift set up which shifts into excellent anticipation and then you ramp it even higher at the end with the reveal which lifts this story's potential into the stratosphere. Bruh. Well done.
Hey man, this is my favorite short. I really like it. What lenes did you use? In particular the scene at the end where the monster appears out of focus???
Wow that's awesome to hear, I'm glad you liked it. We just used the Sony FE 50mm f/1.8 for everything. At first we tried the shot wide open at f1.8 but my AC noted the monster eyes in the background were too blurry so we closed it up to about f2.8
Santa is demonic anyway bro research the history of Christmas, great cinematic anyway was great.... annoying you turnt the comments off but yeah awesome work.
Thank you! I'm still rocking the A7III, you really can't beat it for the price. I'd absolutely love to get the A7sIII because it fixes the few big quicks with this one. But it's A: sold out everywhere and B: Costs 6000$ where I live. So... Maybe one day🤘
@@atlithoreinarsson You got any tips for noise reduction, I didn't see any pixelated noise in your short? Also, are you going to show your mom the short? It may open old wombs for her but brilliant concept.
I blurred this short quite a bit and added film grain in post. RU-vid doesn't really show it too well because of the compression. The ProRes file looks amazing though. But noise has never really has been an issue for me with the A7III if you don't underexpose too much. But Neat Video is the magic plugin for all kinds of noise if you're in trouble. I told my mom about the concept before we shot the film so I guess she was prepared. When I finally showed her the film she told me she loved it.
Outstanding job on one of the best 1 minute shorts I've seen in a long time. My favorite part is the patience and timing of the shots. I heard this was made on the A7iii. I have the same camera. Would you be able to share which frame rate and shutter speed you decided to use? Pleasure to watch, thanks!
I love watching filmmakers work and seeing what other filmmakers do for their workflow! This was amazing to see honestly I'm definitely a fan man please upload some more things like this! Your style and expertise are so needed today! Thank you for everything you do!
Dude you've got more than some serious talent and skill, please tell me you're planning on making more things these are so good! What are some of your influences? Your favorite filmmakers? Favorite Movies?
I guess we were kind of going for some old school Spielberg in this one but influences all around. No single favorite movie but there are a lot of filmmakers I love, nothing too suprising though. Nolan, Fincher, Cuarón, Kubrick, Soderbergh, Charlie Kaufman, Robert Eggers, Ari Aster and loads more. Thanks!
This was so cute and definitely better than any stay at home challenge film I've seen in the last few months for sure! First video I find of yours going down the rabbit hole now!
