so 1 V4 looper OMC motor would be about 500cc's more displacement, and about 60 hp more for the same weight. go crossflow and less weight, about 40hp more minimum with a bubbleback version. and way faster top end due to only one gearcase, with way more power/torque, and cheap steep props all over the place.
point is shallow water , anyone can run a single motor fast in a lake with deep water , but why stop at 60hp that runs a deep drive as a 90hp but why stop at 90hp so on and so on !
The area that I fish is about a 10 mile run from the cabin. I have a 17 foot alumacraft wide body rated for 90 hp but I run twin 2 stroke 115 yamaha's empty or loaded for a day of fishing it will run just under 50 mph at 6 thousand rpm, it does burn a lot of fuel. I know I can get another 5 mph out of this setup but I don't like pushing the rpm over the 6000 and have been using this setup 1999 both yamahas are still strong and run perfect and I keep them in top shape myself.
As for increase in the boat load, that's where multi-motor installs really shine. My record with twin 30's was 7 adult men onboard and their camping gear (was asked to ferry them to another bank of the river) - the boat reluctantly went on plane with 13" pitch SS props with a top speed of 47-49 km/h meaning it lifted over a 1000 kg of load including the boat and motors themselves)
Amazing! The sound of them all running wot is something I miss so much...So, the addition of the third motor doesn't add much speed unless you invest heavily in the SS props, speed increase is from overrevving. As a cheap alternative you could try Solas Amita aluminum 4-blade props, they are like $80 a piece new and they make them in 15" pitch, they need balancing though, oem quality is low.
Great fun video. I watched all of the multiple engine videos. This looks fun. Did you ever notice much torque steer? All the engines are turning the prop the same direction. I know on most twin engine setups they have one turning right rotation and the other left rotation. Thanks again for making the video.
