Was in Ocean Springs, MS at my grandparents. We have a 28 ft high foundation and live right next to Davis Bayou. The water got all the way to the porch. There were waves on the water, and we saw people's medications (pill bottles) floating all the way into our yard. The neighborhoods across the street from me were obliterated. A terrifying act of God. A hope and pray no one ever has to go through something like Katrina, a truly horrific moment of my life.
The entire time I was screaming: go upstairs!!! You have no idea what could be in that water, electricity, toxins, broken glass, other sharp things. And not to mention the waves and big pieces of furniture that could push you under. When water starts coming into the building, get upstairs!!!
Man the sustained wind noise at 12:30 is INSANE! Great footage. Going down a rabbit hole of Katrina documentaries and this is a really good one. Great work.
Here in 2024 and watching today. My life has been forever changed. We took a hit from Katrina in 2005 and Ida in 2021. I can literally feel/see something bigger is coming. This is the 1st time I've felt compelled to watch RU-vid videos of Katrina. I've had the same feeling the last few weeks that I did from May to August 2005. I pray im wrong🙏🏾
I rode it out 45 miles south of New Orleans. Dumbest thing I've ever done. The stories I could tell told to me by others at the shelter we were brought to that night were stunning. The one I remember most was this black guy I was talking to who couldn't swim and held on to his black lab dog where they made it to a tree he could hang on to until the storm passed. The dog got out with him. I could tell you a half dozen more that were equally as scary. What a night!
Just for the record, Hurricane Katrina was NOT a "worst case scenario" hurricaen for Louisiana nor New Orleans. Katrina was only a 125mph cat 3 at landfal. Katrina also missed the city of New Orleans, and they neever had officially recorded wind above 100mph in the cityl. The worst case scenario for Louisiana would be if a 190mph hurricane, such as Allen, made a direct hit on New Orleans. The storm surge would be over 40 feet above dry ground, and it would kill EVERYONE in the entire city, even if they were 3 stories above ground level. the native americans told the settlers to NEVER build a city in the dry lake bed where New orleans (and Houston) both reside. 400 years later, we have this EASILY AVOIDABLE problem because of human stupidity..
From 9 minutes on to about 12 minutes felt like an eternity to watch. Can't even imagine being there. Truly terrifying. Sorry and RIP to all who went through this.
awww that's so sad I'm so scared because the news was talking about the hurricane 🌀 in the midnight and tomorrow I'm so scared by the way I'm a news girl I'm only 10 years old happy birthday to me Even though it was on May anyways that's not what we're talking about it's about the news about that hurricane in the midnight I'm so scared 😱😱😱😱😱😰😰😰😭😭😭😭😮💨🙄😒😏
East Texas didn't get any significant rain off of Katrina. I live in SE TX. However, Hurricane Rita came through a month later and did major damage in SE TX.
