This is a channel to celebrate inexpensive watches offering great value. I am not a collector, this channel is not monetized, I am just having fun with watches and hope you are too.
Why did I call this channel THE DUMB WATCH GUY? Do I suffer from low esteem? Am I truly dumb in all things.
Hmmm. I have no explanation for why I did this, nor do I have any explanation for my interest in inexpensive Asian watch, which I seem so drawn to.
Perhaps I could have called the Channe, THE CHEAP WATCH GUY. I thought about Watch Mojo...but "the dumb watch guy" just had a certain magic to it...so unlike the tidy boys who wear grown up ties and all to sell their wares. Not that I fault them prissy boys.
On a personal note I look for a style of some kind, an inexpensive price, a color I find alluring. I'm like a fish looking at a fish lure....ahhhhha....got me!

I remember in my teens seeing someone wearing a Seiko SKX007 in a movie that I don't even remember now. I couldn't afford one back then (the 90's) and they're ridiculously overpriced now, but it always stuck in my mind as being so cool looking and solidly made, so these days I love buying the much cheaper homage SKX's and Seiko SKX Mods, and lucky for me there are masses of them out there.
Looks like an old Rolex or Omega. If the branding bugs you - it would me - it's easy to rub off the logo on a watch dial with some rubbing alcohol and q-tips, leaving you with a nice clean sterile dial.
I've always avoided these cheapo watches, thinking they'd be so shoddily made as to be close to toys in terms of quality. But you've convinced me to give them a try.
It seems to me, from the video, that you haven't removed the film from the bezel yet (it's very stuck and a bit difficult to remove). Which will make the watch even more beautiful and polished! 😌
I bought a watch from MAMACOO lightly used for my last milestone birthday. Don't wear it as much as it deserves, but not afraid to, either. It's stunning . Good taste, Sir.
I travel down this pronunciation path too...SKMEI. I uses to say Skah-mee. I have heard many say Su-Ka-May. Here is the latest I have found. Use at your own discretion.....:😀 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JZSy0eTzBbs.html

Kinda gives me hope. I dabbled in Temu before aliexpress. The first noticeable difference is how aggressive Temu is with adds, and emails. and pop ups, and... Aliexpress has been a great experience on my first two orders. thanks for sharing!
Really liking this style! It's a cohesive and original design. For some reason, this totally flew under my radar. I had to scroll a bit on Ali just to find it. I almost pulled the trigger until I saw a review saying the solar feature was just a decoration and doesn't really work. I tend not to like things with fake features (fake dials being another). If Mike is cool with it, a video of you opening the watch to see if the solar panel has traces to the circuit board would be interesting. Even if it doesn't I might still spring for it. Blue is also my favorite color and that irridescence just SCREAMS!
@@harrywhipple7828 The solar feature is not a decoration. It's called solar assist. The watch will work with no batteries, but only in direct sunlight. Basically when this watch is in the sun, it uses the solar and saves battery life.
Word of caution, I believe the AliExpress carrier is stealing packages. I never got mine. The carrier reported the package was signed for. LOL. AliExpress refuse to make this right. So much for their delivery guarantee.
@10:45..."can't go wrong with this one"...until you take swimming. 🤣 I found this on Ali and started searching reviews and found your video. SKMEI seems to be the value leader. I've been buying Nibosi.
I only bought 2 POEDAGAR Steel bracelet watches due to the pins being almost impossible to remove, I preferred going for the POEDAGAR/859 with canvas strap. I prefer their vintage look and lume on this!
Old News. I am told Walmart jewelry departments will be. closed by the end of July2924. My walmarts clearance sec tion is all Timex As of June 17th. I've gotten Timex Triathlon shocks for eleven dollars. The off brands are still there with a few returned Casios. A few months back at my Walmart there were a lot of clearence Casios. All gone. 😢
It was always a gold engraved pocket watch that was given… and passed down… the provenance… adds to the value… the documentation… oral and now video history all add to the worth of this watch.
If I remember correctly ,by 1977 LCD was down in cost and beginning to be widely available. LED was quickly fading mainly because of battery life. Also, metal had been supplanted by resin casing. Though the modules were decreasing drastically in price,it was becoming unrealistic to put them in metal casings and sell to the average consumer as inflation was out of control. This had to be a very premium item in 1977. Someone needs to remake this. It's beautiful and totally unique piece that came out right at the bridge of the LED and LCD eras. I see there's one right now on eBay with an asking price of over 1900 dollars. If only.....
My only experience with Temu is receiving some acrylic single watch cases which came broken. I've read some bad things about Temu on the web so proceed with caution. This video caused me to have a second look on the site and they do have some unique offerings not found on Ali.. Functionally, expensive or not,all watches are essentially the same. Mostly, people seem to want new experiences in life to keep things interesting. I tend to like to keep a piece and go back to it after a time to relive it. I'm not the type to spend a lot of money and then flip the watch to afford the next experience. So why spend vast amounts of money on each new experience with watches, especially if you like to change things up frequently? Certainly,if you make ridiculous amounts of money,go for the pricey stuff if you like and even amass a vast collection. I'm glad that market exists as it make the world an interesting place. However, that's not a realistic way for many of us to attain different experiences that we can go back to on a whim. We all have different reasons for why we do things the way we do. For me it's about maintaining variety. It would seem TDWG has a slightly different view as he likes to give old pieces away. But compared to many collectibles, watches don't take up much space. This would be my take and why I think it's a practical and great hobby.
I don't like a watch that tries to do too much (smart watch is the extreme example although I don't really consider them watches but of course I'm going on a parenthetical tangent here). For me,it has to be simple, sleek, and modern. I'm not into Roman numerals. To sum it up it's purely aesthetic. Some fret over movements and internal complexity. Not me. All I need really is quartz accuracy and a cool look.
