You mentioned in the interview that your interest in watches started about 2 years ago. Did you have an interest in watches when you were young? Did you have one? Did your parents? Did you also have a fascination with time or clocks from an early age? Or is it more of an apparel thing with you?
I wore watches every day from the age of 8, about. We had a French clock in the house as a kid, but it did not run. A friend fixed Cuckoo clocks. I wore a men's dress watch with a suit every day for years. I was not really into watches as a collector thing until 2 years ago. I see them as a functioning unit/ mechanical or digital device that is a look back at yesteryear, they are comforting to wear, and I enjoy them. I enjoy giving them away. And the videos are a hoot to make. I am astounded at the quality of watch we can buy for low low cost. Ordered an Omega Seamaster homage by SKMEI today. The dive SKMEI should be here today. Thanks for your interest, please share your personal interest in watches as folk will enjoy reading.
That Sea Master one has caught my eye also. I like a 6 o clock date window. The thing with quartz ticking second hands is that they almost never hit those indexes perfectly (for those with OCD). However I have a $16 Sinobi from Ali where they actually do every time! Timex won't even do that. Only Casio seems to be good with this. So this shows it IS possible with an inexpensive watch. Maybe with Skmei also? It will also be interesting to see what the bezel action is like (surely friction). Waiting for your video. My Sinobi is a sweet looking watch. The bracelet it came with was cheap and impossible to work with so I threw it out replacing it with a tan strap. Bracelets look premium but like you said are not very practical. Besides, straps are fun to change for different looks.
Ive heard that "The Dumb Watch Guy" title actually refers to the fact that you dont like "Smart" watches but prefer nonsmart (dumb) traditional watches and that youre just funnin' people about the dumb guy part in a form of clever mental jiu jitsu. Is there any truth to this rumour?
Seriously, it was the silliest, stupidest name I could think of. It was an anti concept, and I thought the high brow approach ridiculous. Comedy and having fun has always been the priority on this Channel. Actually, I value the value you get with an inexpensive watch, and I'm a high value/low cost buyer.
