As a hobby, I cut firewood and modify mainly Stihl pro chainsaws, and a few Husqvarna along the way. With the occasional auto, welding fab or bbq smoking/cooking videos. Thank's for stopping by.
Ebay saw that was blown up. Stuck rings, junk piston, and heavy aluminum transfer. My plan was to convert it, but decided I had nothing to lose. I cleaned up the cyl, along with a popup piston, port job, and new bearings. The saw is a work in progress, and overall, nice condition, but the cylinder is in tough shape. There are more videos of the cylinder repair, etc, if you're interested. I appreciate the comment, and thanks for watching.
@@woodcutter4481 ohh I see. It’s a beauty for sure. I have two small Stihl saws but I’ve been thinking about a bigger one . I’m looking at this model . The Stihl are a good bit more expensive.
@jimmyjam3172 I'm a Stihl guy myself, but I really like this saw. I have a good X-torq cylinder to port, once I'm happy with this one. I have a couple OE 372xp's, and a couple Farmertec kits to build sometime. Thank you.
Thank you very much! I have a 13 xts 4 and have codes coming up. Just to see what I am going to be looking at is a blessing! The top 2 Allen heads are almost impossible to get at! I bought the Ravenol Haldex fluid. The video I watched filled that side from the vent pipe. Took it for a ride and rechecked fluid level from a plug above your fill plug.
@BrennanRaihl I'll keep playing with the porting on it. The cylinder is in rough shape, but I do like the saw. I have a nice cylinder to copy the porting on when I'm happy with this one. Thank you
Very good Rob. I run the same Michelin tires on all my vehicles. I hand a plow years ago. I let it go with the truck. I was tired of people expecting me to plow for nothing. Shars is where I buy my bits and such. The next time I order I'm going to try the changeable carbide bits. It seems like all the machinists are using them.
I've run that model Michelin for years on all my vehicles, and the Chevy will most likely get them as well. Fortunately, I haven't had a problem with people wanting me to plow, but I definitely know how it goes. I'm also interested in the replacable carbide bits and have to do some research. Thank you for the info.👍
@ClintsHobbiesDIY The cylinder is in rough shape, low compression, but it runs decent. When I'm done messing with this cylinder, I have a good one to port. Thank you.
Thanks for your video. Need a light above my PC station to see info from documents while typing. The LED lights that mount on top of a monitor and work off 5 volts do not seem to meet my brightness requirements. But your demo of this 2' Airand LED light looks to have the brightness I'm looking for. Guess working off 120v a/c gives it the power for the brightness I need. Thanks again for posting your video.
Hello, I also bought a 6 pack of Barrina brand shop lights that are 3', 30W, 4000LM, and 5000k from Amazon. These lights are now above my chainsaw work bench in most of my videos if you would like to see the difference. I appreciate the comment, and thanks for watching.
looks like that thing cuts pretty nice from what i can see. of course if you are anything like me thers a big learning curve in chainsaws, how to file , use , and the list goes on and on. seems like its jumping a bit and struggling some possibly because the rakers are filed too low
The rakers are stock, and the chain has been sharpened once by hand with a 13/64 (STIHL) file. I believe Oregon uses a 7/32. Either way, I agree it is a bit jumpy. I have other OE 372xp's, and I'm just seeing what I can do with this X-torq for now. I appreciate the comment, and thanks for watching.
@@woodcutter4481 look forward to the next video. seems likea pretty decent saw from wgat i can see . by far im no expert but i'll keep an eye out for the content
Totally agree with you. I won this blown-up saw off Ebay before I really knew the difference between OE and x-torq. I was going to convert it to OE, but I decided to repair the cylinder and see what I could do with it for now. I appreciate the comment, and thanks for watching!
O you just made it look so easy! I have same truck dually and have to tackle this same job. Where did u get the parts. I think i seen moog has a serviceable u joint!
I believe the u-joints were Borg-Warner brand from Fleet Pride and Spicer ball joints from my local parts store. I torch the cross out of the u-joint, cut a slice in the outside of the caps, and tap them out. I find this doesn't distort the yolk. There will be hot grease spatter, fire, and smoke, so be very careful if you cut them out, and do this in a safe area. Clean up the holes with sand paper or a brush, and clean up the flat surfaces where the clips go with a file. Good luck, and thanks for the comment.
Yes, slowly but surely. I'm back to work and feeling good. I really should be exercising and walking more. I'm excited about the new project's, and appreciate your support. Thank you!
There are a few different options. The one I did was the "Treetop Zipline Tour" @ Alpine Adventures, Lincoln, NH. The website says $89 dollars for 2024. If you're interested, you may want to book in advance, it seems to be very popular. Good luck.
@M2theBchainsaws Hello Mike, after looking back at things, I think this saw does not like the low raker setting like my other saws do. Originally, this saw seemed to do pretty well with the 32" bar and new EXL chain. This build is different, being my first 372 and a strato saw. The cylinder is in tough shape, but I have given it some intake timing and raised the uppers, but no cuts yet. I will see if I have another chain with a more appropriate raker height and give it a try. I'm back to work tomorrow 😞. Thank you.
Same part number on the manual calls for 75w90 GL4. Cant find it.Dealer has this same one as yours.Im afraid to use it.Did they updated the fluid?Does it say 301 LSC fluid? Can we use synthetic 75w90 gl4 alternative? The parts catalog shows 75w90 gl4 lsc for haldex lsc differentials.Even the canadian part number says 301 lsc.P/N 88863350.
@batsnvultures Hello, It's been a while, but I believe the SAE 75W GL-4 #88863349 was recommended in my owners manual. It took me about 5 months to get a quart of it thru a dealer out of Texas. This dealer just put it out on the parts locator and had it directly shipped to me when someone got an order of this fluid.I didn't want to chance using a different type from the local parts store, I wanted the original fluid. My local dealer ( a regular GM, not Cadillac) could not tell me for sure if there was an updated fluid. I'm not sure if I can find the info of the dealer I got it from, but I will look if you need it. Thank you.
Hello, yes, I agree. This saw was not too impressive , and the first strato saw I've ever messed with. I got this saw blown up off Ebay. I was going to convert it, and probably still will. I cleaned the alum transfer off, but the cylinders in rough shape. I opened up the lowers and used a pop-up with a thin base gasket and 1" pipe muffler mod. I did more work on it today and will see how it goes. Either way, it's no great loss. Thank you for your comment.
My 372 x-torque boged down in stock trimm, if I dogged it in. I ported, mufflermodded and deleted the strato ports. Now it runs way better. It doesn't like deep raker gauge.
Hello, I am definitely guilty and a fan of lower rakers, depending on what I'm cutting. This is my first 372 that was blown up, and I did my best to save the cylinder. At this point, I've cut some of the skirt, opened the lowers, thin base gasket, Hyway pop-up, and a muffler mod. I will start changing the intake and upper timing and hopefully improve a little. This was my first strato and a good one to play with. If it doesn't work out, it's no great loss. What did you mean by deleted the strato ports?I appreciate your comment. Thank you
Well I’ve use Husqvarna’s for the past 18yrs and never had any issues. After watching you Cut, I can Honestly say with 100% Confidence it’s the Operators Fault. Sorry but not Sorry you have NO clue how to use a Chainsaw. My Suggestion would be too Learn how to Operate a Chainsaw before making and Posting Reviews
Hello Evan, I agree with you. A friend of mine at a Husqvarna dealer thought it was quite rich and could be leaned out more also. This is the first X-torq I've played with, and the cylinders kinda messed up anyway, so I have nothing to lose. I'll play with the intake and transfer timing a little and see how that goes. In the end, I'll convert it. I appreciate the comment, and thanks for watching.
i use the same saw but non xtorque in australia in very hard wood, stock saw 24 inch bar no problem at all its a great saw, i dont touch rakers eaither
Hello, Im sure it's the work I did on the cylinder that I'm not impressed with, but it's all for fun. The saw has a Hyway popup, .009 base gasket, 1" pipe muffler mod, and I opened up the lower transfers. The cylinder was repaired, but I don't know how long it will last. I'm just playing around with this one and plan to do more to it. Hopefully, I can improve on it. Thank you
Hello, I bought this saw blow up with a lot of aluminum transfer. I used a pop-up , .009 base gasket, 1" pipe muffler mod, and opened up the lower transfers. I'm not sure how long the cylinder will last, so this was a good one play with. I expected it to hold a little more rpm, but I am going to do more and hopefully improve on it. The rakers are around .036 and usually works fine with my other saws cutting logs off the pile. Thank you
@tuckerburk8499 Hello tuckerburk8499, I agree that would be a better setting for this one. I just took it apart again for some intake and upper transfer work. This clyinder was repaired, and the piston is again getting snug just above the exhaust port. I will keep playing with it until the cylinder is no longer usable and convert it. I don't want to ruin the bottom end. All fun and nothing to lose. Thanks for the comment. 👍
Nice metric to show, the how long to get to 300. That’s the number I shoot for. It’s conservative in my experience and they drop in like your did. Thanks for viewing
Hello, there is a video of some testing (for fun) with a rich tune running a 24" bar w/ 3/8 chain. This saw will be run with a 18" .325 8 pin. The video is titled: Ported Stihl 026 agressive 24" 7 pin 3/8 RS full comp dry oak/maple. Thank you for your interest. .
Runs well. Sounds great. Nice job Woodcutter👍. Doing a muffler mod to my 372xp- putting pipe on pto side. Making it dual port. It's already got a top vent. Question: will my saw benefit from the carving out a shallow in the pipe. Havent seen that trick before. Was just going to insert the pipe. Thanks
This is the first 372 I've run, and the first pipe like this I've tried. I wanted a spark arrestor and kinda just threw this pipe together. It seems like most guys just use the pipe itself. I don't know if you need a screen, but the pipe itself should work fine. Thank you.
There's a possibility the cyl plating will survive. Overall, I'm satisfied and looking forward to running it a bit more with a smaller bar, of course. I will most likely be trying my hand at some machine work on this cylinder. I did enjoy working on this one. Thanks Mike
I'm happy with it so far. I'll get the smaller bar on it and play with it from there. I will be trying my hand at some machine work, hopefully fairly soon. This cylinder would be a good one to start with. Thank you.
So there is 2 different fluods in the diff? I have a 13 xts that is throwing codes! The filter cover and pressure selinoid allen head are hard to get to
On MY 2012 SRX4 , yes, there are 2 different fluids. One for the diff, ( AC DELCO SAE 75W-90 GL-5, GM # 10-4016), and another for the Haldex unit, ( AC DELCO SAE 75W GL-4 GM# 10-4070).Thanks for the question, and good luck.
Stihl 044 has the same bushing, but I have the step tool. I haven't had a problem using the tin can yet, but I have heard of people using plastic. That seems like a good idea. Thank you.
I got this heat gun from a buddy of mine many years. He used it for wallpaper removal. Thanks for the info Clint , I will check out the Wagner. I hope all is well. Thank you. 👍
@@woodcutter4481 Thanks Rob. The first heat gun I got was a battery powered DeWalt. It is useless for big jobs. It eats batteries. Plus, it has no temperature control. It's okay for shrink wrap on wires and such. We are good here. I hope you are also. Take care Rob.
I probably could have made a little heat shield around the case to gather the heat better, but I think I'll get a more powerful gun. I must agree that the tool works great. Thank you. 👍
Hello Frank, while not a complete sharpening video, I hope it included some info that will help you out. Remember to use the proper sized file for the chain your sharpening. Keep your cutters equal length (LH + RH) and properly adjust your raker depth. Good luck, and thanks for the comment. 👍
