Glidecoat products have been extensively tested on all forms of surfaces in extreme weather conditions by accredited laboratories and have been proven to provide superior protection in even the harshest conditions
For this job we used 500ml of coating, but it really depends on the square footage. You can get two coats on 1.2 square feet with 1 milliliter of coating. So for our standard bottle sizes: 50ml - 60sqft (2 coats) 120ml - 144sqft (2 coats) 160ml - 192sqft (2 coats) 250ml - 300sqft (2 coats) So based on your square footage you can buy some combination of the above to ensure you are covered.
@Glidecoat Thanks for this info I've reached out to your customer service team and they have pointed me to the kit that suits my needs..looking forward to the results!
Hey Paul - we have a network of certified pro detailers all across the country. If you submit your details here: www.glidecoat.com/professional-detailing/ we can hook you up with the nearest detailer for a quote.
When applying the coating you use a cross hatch type pattern. Do you not recommend a circular and if not why? Also, I don't have any other way to coat except outside at my marina. Its not the cleanest environment so, can I simply prep wipe the areas to be coated and apply coating and continue this way until the boat is coated or prep wipe entire boat and simply dust off as I go?
We find the cross hatch pattern is easier to ensure you have complete coverage. When working in square sections, you can go edge to edge with the cross hatch, whereas circular could cause you to miss some areas. For coating outside in your marina, a good rule of thumb is to prep wipe areas that you will be able to coat within an hour. You can prep an area and then dust off with a microfiber before coating as well. But if you are prepping well in advance of coating, you are going to be wasting effort and need to prep again.
Oh, last question, you said to repeat the process. Do you do the same section right away twice or do you do the entire boat once then go back over the entire boat again
Sorry the Alpha has a 5 year and the standard is only 18 months. Which one should I go with. I called Glidecoat and I really didn't get a satisfactory answer. They just said its better but, is it formulated for fiberglass and is it meant for boats?
The ALPHA is different than the marine as it was designed as a marine grade coating, but can be applied to multiple vehicle types - boats, cars, RV's, etc. The 5 year protection is for automotive applications. In lab testing, we found it would give 24 months protection in the marine environment, compared to our original marine coating which gives 18 months protection. Both coatings are safe for us on fiberglass and meant for use on boats. It really comes down to cost and preference. The ALPHA is slightly more expensive, but you get an additional 6 months protection.
My question is, which is a better ceramic for the boat, the standard glidecoat or the Alpha? It seems like the Alpha has a 5 year warranty and the standard it 18 months?

Hey @rahouston - I answered your question over on our ALPHA video, but wanted to give a quick answer here... The ALPHA has been shown in lab testing to outlast the marine ceramic coating. The lab testing shows the equivalent of 24 months protection, whereas marine shows 18 months. The 5 year protection we state on the website is based on automotive applications.

We designed ALPHA as a marine coating first, although it can be applied to other vehicles - we started out with the mission of making a coating that was an evolution of our "standard" marine coating. During development we put both products through our Accelerated Weather Testing and found that the ALPHA product outlasted the marine coating. In a marine environment, ALPHA should give 24 months of protection, whereas the Marine Ceramic is more like 18 months. The 5 year protection is when ALPHA is applied to a car. The marine environment is much harsher than automotive, so it doesn't last as long.
It says extremely hydrophilic on the bottle, but you write super hydrophobic in the video? Is the aplication hydrophilic, and the end result hydrophobic?
Good catch - it must be an error in the graphic. The coating itself is hydrophobic as you can see at the end of the video, the water is beading and repelling off the surface.
With a new RV you don't have to be as aggressive as we were in the video. You can skip the heavy duty cleaner and heavy compound. We would still recommend a single stage paint correction either with the Nano Compound or Nano Polish. Even with a factory new RV, you will likely see swirl marks or minor imperfections in the surface and it is best to remove before ceramic coating. That said, if you are happy with the surface, you can clean then decontaminate with Surface Wipe and apply the ceramic coating. The ceramic coating will keep it looking new and protect for at least 2 years depending on usage, storage, and how you take care of it. Once you notice the hydrophobic effect begins to wear off, you can reapply without any issue. We also mention our RV Shine & Shield at 8:30 in the video as a maintenance/after care product but this can be used as a stand-alone product as well. When used on it's own, it will protect your RV for up to 6 months (again, based on storage, usage, etc.) but as long as you re-apply, it will keep your RV looking great.
Once you apply the coating you can leave the pontoon in saltwater, but we would still recommend you follow general maintenance guidelines - monthly washes, spot cleaning as necessary, etc. If you leave it in the water you can still get build-up, which the longer you leave it, the harder it will be to remove. The other option is to use the boat more. The movement in the water helps remove a lot of the build-up.
Apologies if it wasn't clear - we recommend working in a 2' by 2' section. As for the length of time to let it sit, you want to buff it right away. Our marine coating does not need to sit on the surface or begin to flash like some of the other coatings on the market.
@@CurtisIsbell The applicator sponges are not reusable after you have completed the application. Those should be thrown away. If you are using the Marine Ceramic Coating, some of our customers have said that you are able to soak the microfibers in vinegar and wash them for reuse. We wouldn't recommend using them again for ceramic coating applications, but instead use them for general cleaning.
After doing the correction compound and polish, you use the talents to remove the oils. I did see another video where they said you could use Dawn dish soap. What is your thoughts on that prior to laying the ceramic on?
That is correct. With our Marine Ceramic Coating, you buff immediately with a microfiber after applying the coating. If you wait too long the surface will become difficult to buff and it can cause streaking.
You will want to buff the coating right away. Apply the coating in 2' by 2' section and then buff immediately with the microfiber towel. If you wait, the surface can become difficult to buff and it could cause streaking.

Thanks - Christian and the guys did a great job! It depends on the detailer what the price is, but we have a kit for DIY. This video essentially covers start to finish the products in the kit, except for the heavy duty cleaner used in the first step. You can check out our kits here for more info: www.glidecoat.com/product/rv-ceramic-top-coating-kit/. If you are interested in having your RV professionally detailed, we can put you in touch with someone in your area.
