We grabbed a gelcoat panel to show how easy it is to apply Glidecoat ALPHA - our brand new graphene-infused coating.
Always make sure that your surface is fully prepped. Depending on the level of oxidation, swirl marks, or scratches, this could involve a full wash down, compounding and polishing. Wipe all areas to be coated with Glidecoat Surface Wipe or isopropyl alcohol to decontaminate the surface and remove any residue left on the surface.
Shake the bottle well and then apply 5-10 drops to the application sponge. Apply in a 3' x 3' section using and up and down then side to side pattern to ensure complete coverage. After 30 seconds to 1 minute, buff with a microfiber cloth. If applying multiple coats, allow 1 hour between coats.
After a full cure (24 hours) the surface will be extremely hydrophobic, have improved gloss and depth of color and be protected against the elements for up to 2 years in marine applications and 5 years in automotive.

Thank you for the response. However, I already coated it. I just used common sense. Yes, I only prepped wiped the areas I was coating.

When applying the coating you use a cross hatch type pattern. Do you not recommend a circular and if not why? Also, I don't have any other way to coat except outside at my marina. Its not the cleanest environment so, can I simply prep wipe the areas to be coated and apply coating and continue this way until the boat is coated or prep wipe entire boat and simply dust off as I go?

We find the cross hatch pattern is easier to ensure you have complete coverage. When working in square sections, you can go edge to edge with the cross hatch, whereas circular could cause you to miss some areas. For coating outside in your marina, a good rule of thumb is to prep wipe areas that you will be able to coat within an hour. You can prep an area and then dust off with a microfiber before coating as well. But if you are prepping well in advance of coating, you are going to be wasting effort and need to prep again.

My question is, which is a better ceramic for the boat, the standard glidecoat or the Alpha? It seems like the glidecoat has a 5 year warranty and the standard it 18 months?

We designed ALPHA as a marine coating first, although it can be applied to other vehicles - we started out with the mission of making a coating that was an evolution of our "standard" marine coating. During development we put both products through our Accelerated Weather Testing and found that the ALPHA product outlasted the marine coating. In a marine environment, ALPHA should give 24 months of protection, whereas the Marine Ceramic is more like 18 months. The 5 year protection is when ALPHA is applied to a car. The marine environment is much harsher than automotive, so it doesn't last as long.
