It seems the island of Taiwan belonged to austronesian people and the chinese took over it, overpowered it and basically have stolen a whole country and nowadays the chinese government even oppresses it. That is extremely terrible.
taiwan has been democracy since 1988, native languages are fully allowed to be spoken in taiwan but still dying because most people would prefer mandarin because it had more uses and not useful in modern cities in taiwan to get a job or something, people who grew in cities no longer speak their native languages and fully assimilated into chinese speaking society.
It can be done. Philippines was colonized by spain for 333 yrs and after that america colonized phil after defeating spain in 1898. Then in second ww2, japan invaded phil for 3 yrs. Even after such long reign of spain in phil, phil still speak and preserve the austronesian languages. Even today, english has became dominant language in phil; the people have never relinquished their mother tongue. Phil ancestor language was born in your country.
