I LOVE seeing these guys geek out about these keyboards. It takes me back to my own keyboard odysseys. I was a few years behind them. Playing Jellyfish and Moog Cookbook cd’s while driving cross country to spend all my money on old synths. These are my kind of nerds.
Rick is a great guy. Met and spoke with him many times since 77. Just have not seen him since Bun E left the band. Maybe this summer in Ottawa, i'll pass a not backstage or something. :) (Rick if you're reading this... DAVID PEEL not ELEPHANTS MEORY :) )
I remember back 1998 i believe it was not sure but cheap trick play at ostrich festival in downtown Chandler Arizona anyways I'm not guitar expert but seeing Rick playing with his custom double guitar, as a 12 Year old me it just blew my mind away
Guys a straight up creative genius, tbf... who happens to be a badass guitarist. Fascinating to listen to, especially his perspective on England... haha ' everything was very 'imperial' back then... did PI get a mention....🤔 I rate his stance on guitars too... used, beat up old things lol... before I knew it I was up to my balls in the things... bought one for every year I played, so by the time I was 25 I had over 20... which was more than one a year .... but that's not the point, I was playing 'catch-up'... basically i bought every second hand guitar or bass I saw, for a time...had to curb it, my house was starting to look a bit like Jeff Lynn's lol. Not on the same level as Rick, but I bought some rare ones. Did he say that they did acid and listened to The Beatles n Jethro Tull....🤔 fucking legend 😄🌈😎❤
"I'm self-taught...I play what I think the song needs" Oh Rick...you know and I know the majority of great musicians are self-taught. Your humility is always refreshing though. He didn't get a picture because he was stupid. Can we say that now? Honestly, the only way a man can get away with missing the birth of his son is to say (and for his wife to know) that he really WAS recording a song with John Lennon. I'm sure she's forgiven you by now. :-)
I had a TEAC 3340 back then, and a book on how to DIY recording, that happened to have Stingo on the cover. Cost 700 quid in 1987, had to sell it for 400 a year later, but such great fun.
andy's'iz dat my moma on the fone'....have 2 ask...wots the real story?*oh yeh!teac 3340 i want it bak./...+my 69 50w marshal hed,vox ac 30,vibrasonic on'anon and......
Great chat! Thanks. Stewart is a firecracker! Hasn't lost any of that old mojo energy thang at all. I have no doubt that Mr. Copeland will be exactly like this when he reaches 100 revs around the sun. He is brilliant on so many different levels. Long may he bring us all that Stewart Copeland energy. It's contagious. Cheers and regards from Stratford, Ontario, Canada. (I liked & subscribed. Keep them coming!) 😎✌🎸
Wow, another well tought out interview with Mr. Copeland. It's wonderful to hear these insights from a man who thrives at the crossroads of intellect and pure guts. I think that's what made the police so outstanding, his musical (and general) culture mixed with instincts. Thank you. This is something I will watch over and over again.
Fun interview. I have all three Moog Cookbook CD’s. All well done and lots of fun. When I bought the third I recall Rodger shipped it and included a signed card saying “ thank you”
****TOTO WAS A BAND THAT CHANGED THE COURSE OF MUSIC*THEY ALL HAD SOMETHING INTO OTHER BANDS WEATHER IT BE WRITING,PRODUCING,OR JUST PLAYING THERE TALENT*TOTO GOES DEEP IF YOU FOLLOW THERE STARTING AND ENDING* *CATER*
Steve's influence cannot be overstated. His parts were majestic. I don't give two figs how many tracks he used. I read about the work involved for the solo in Rosanna. Worth it. The parts are amazing and the sounds are still delicious. In any other band he would be hailed as the tremendous player that he is. But he was in Toto. Thats how good that band was. What a huge influence on what came later. Thanks for the work man. It was the Best.
Thank You Matt for such a great interview and sharing your Life with Prince and your personal life. I remember everyone of my Friends going Crazy over Purple Rain then when I cracked out my cassette tape of Controversy they were like who’s that, I told him you better get to know your music and musicians!!
Great interview podcast!! Saw Cheap Trick live a month ago here in Tucson AZ...love them since i was 5 yrs young with their Dream Police album.. They are Truly Iconic!!
I called the after hours television show THE BUG FIGHTS. Sometimes the looking into the fading dot when the screen tube slowly blacks out. Sitting up really close and trying to see into the void.
