This week we have the iconic musician, the longtime keyboard player for Prince and the Revolution, Matt Fink aka Dr. Fink.
We explore some of the lesser-known parts of Dr. Matt's life: Cool unknown bands from Minneapolis, the long evolution of the Dr. Fink character, vintage keyboards of the '70s, albums with meat on the cover, tribute bands, AC/DC, The Revolution reunited, When Doves Cry video, K-TEL Records, A Clockwork Orange, and (of course) working with Prince.
Stay tuned, more coming each week. We've got a lot of great guests coming, both known and unknown. Like and Subscribe, if you will - and we'll see you next time!
Thanks to Andra Fink, Max Fink, Liesl Bradner in the Peanut Gallery.
Closing Music: "1999" by Dr. Fink, "Old Boston" by Sir George Martin

@@pettyceddy9538 yeah was Prince- I always wondered how they did that as it sounded totally programmed but still soulful- my guess is that they slowed down the sequencer's tempo- played it in, and then sped it back up. VERY COOL effect.

@@pettyceddy9538 I think he means slow down the tape. They didn't need a sequencer to play the part, especially if the tape is running at half speed. You just plan an octave down and it could come out that way.

A great, casual, fact filled interview...BUT....THEE glaringly obvious question, was never asked. HOW/When did he hook up with Prince? I would have LOVED to have heard from Doc, how his relationship with Prince started. But, aside from that, I like your interview style...very smooth and casual. (side note) I'd love to hear Doc's thoughts on the master...Keith Emerson. Thanks again fro a great interview!

Have 2 add in real honesty, PRINCE Rogers Nelson was the real genius, Same way how I feel about sly stone, Freddy Mercury, Robert plant & Jimmy Page and James Brown. It will never be the same without those leaders. 💜

I think everyone knows that. Except he seemed to be better when he had the right people around him, isn't that true? Because not all of it is genius but certain areas have something special it seems. But certainly he is the core of it the inspiration, and the guiding force for everyone around him.

Much love 4 the good doctor Dr Fink of the purple one (Prince) since 1978-1990 the rebels in which became Prince & the Revolution, madhouse, Sign O' The Times/LOVESEXY (played the computer 💻 keyboard 🎹 is pretty much the fairlight synth since albums like around the world in the day, parade, SOTT, lovesexy, Batman and many more in the early 90's More likely Prince did everything) and almost NPG. Still one of my favorite keyboard players and yes I'm a keyboard nerd 4 Life. OB-1's are the best, and especially the anolog, polymoog, prophet-1 rev and computer keyboard aka fairlight and in which I have yet 2 buy either of them, cause nowadays are too expensive....drats

George Duke isn’t mentioned in the portion about synth influences, tho he’s more significant after ‘73, synth-wise. While Billy Preston ventured no further than ARP Pro Soloist, George and Bernie Worrell were challenging Jan & Emerson’s solo dominance, and following Stevie’s innovation of bass synth to delicious extents, paving the way for the Troutmans and others.

Thanks for this interview, Matt Fink is such a natural personality, great sense of humor also. What still ,is a kind of flabberguesting me,is the solo part Matt played,in the song "People without",at the Prince aftergig in Den Haag, the Netherlands 8/17/1990. He started this song with a massiv deep synth sound, quite hooky, like it could be a song of Madhouse. But when his solo part starts,it's very long and evolving in sounds. It's a jam on it's own, also very freaky. I've never seen Prince give away,so much artistic freedom,to a bandmember. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZkRqVAXs71Y.html
