I tend towards optimization in the variety of strategy games that I play, especially those that reward deep analysis. I tend to play complex strategy and wargames, predominantly turn-based or pausable -- I need time to over-analyze, of course!
Hiya Tortuga! The book you're thinking of is "Blind Man's Bluff" by Sherry Sontag. If you ever meet Capt. Bill Toti (USN, Ret), don't bring it up. He thinks people should be in prison over the release of that book.
The Huangphengs are small missile boats but pack quite a few anti-ship missiles into each. They pose a significant risk to shipping because they’re small, fast and pack a hell of a punch.
Naturally, I wanted Cdr Tortuga to make mistakes early on, to enrich the character progression and series narrative. Thanks to Finnish for the thumbnail!
no it s your tagline i think, after all for 99% of youtuber have the same one "This is basically civilization in hell" and as soon as i hear that i stop the video to watch something else. it s like saying "resident evil this is basically zelda but in the modern world"
@@TortugaPower yeah, it s unfortunate the devs did go broke, the game would have been even better with a little bit of balancing and maybe 2 or 3 more archfiends
Sigh--the unexpected tendril of peasants. ;-p Amazing handling of that! You mentioned the Engineer Guild--was wondering if you weren't allowed to build the catapults which would have helped a lot. Or the Altar to get the ray attack which should have used not much mana for a lot more effect.
I don't know why I do not get the ray attack. It's an oversight. Also I sometimes don't get the University when I get the final tier, and that I think makes powers even better. It's effectively worker-efficiency to improve the spells (since you won't need as many workers as soldiers to defend the same attack). Chalk it up to my inability to multi-task well.
I played They Are Billions back in the day, I wasn't very good, but I started to get decent. Then they released their v 1.0 and that campaign just ruined it for me--frustrating puzzles and I stopped playing. Got a copy of this and they have seemingly gone down the same path--making it way too hard for average folk just for the elites to have a challenge. Back in the day, I found a You-Tube series where the guy played TaB and didn't pause--it was just incredible to watch and I learned SOME from it, but no, I could never get anywhere without constant pausing. Which makes me wish YOU had shown the ENTIRE thing so people who are on the fence would realize, "No, this is NOT for me--I will have to pause and micro-manage since I'm not leet." Now some people love that, of course, BUT, if you liked TaB but basically felt you were beating your head against the wall, consider NOT get this for that same reason.
@@TortugaPower Yep, Easy mode and barely made it by the very first one that they claim, we made it as easy as possible! The one where you have to place the mines and use the special bomb unit to kill the enraged wedding guests? Tried a few times and you HAVE to MANUALLY trigger the special units to explode??? I know it's trying to 'teach' me here, but it's not fun at all.
@@TortugaPower Oh, sorry, that's one of the Challenges. I didn't try the actual Campaign yet, since it says it's not all in. EDIT: It's the 2nd Challenge: Peasants are Xenophobes And since I didn't make it very clear, the guy who played TaB No Pause was winning the games--it was quite impressive!
42:30 You’re confusing Air Assault with the Apache being an attack helicopter, but they have nothing to do with each other. Air Assault is where soldiers rappel or get dropped off by a helicopter like a Huey, Black Hawk, or a Chinook. Pretty sure it was first developed by the Army Rangers or the Airborne in the late 50s. But key thing to remember is that the Apache attacks and destroys the enemy and their stuff but Air Assault attacks and holds key positions until reinforcements arrive.
I see, so the Apache assault would be a "ground support" or "close air support" or similar mission type, whereas "Air Assault" refers to air-launched ground action. Thanks!
I know this video is old and im not an avid commenter, but im just wondering, now that the game has decently modern stuff like missiles, what do you think the possibility would be of the next game starting in an even earlier era? like age of sail when cannons first became the primary armament, and would it be a good thing or bad?
It's an interesting possibility, but I don't know enough about the specifics of designing those ships to know if there is enough design freedom to make it worthwhile.
For anyone playing this today, for updating mining stations, ensure your mining station types differ in maintenance cost (even if by like 1), then sort on the Ships and Bases screen by the maintenance cost and you can shift-select all the same type bases for quick retrofit!
I think to complete another series of that I would need a working auto-resolve mod, because the tactical battles get repetitious. But I haven't finished making my new one.
Thanks for show casing this, i was bummed by how Atlantic played but they have really out did themselves in this Pacific version, it looks so good I went and bought it, now I'm watching you to learn how it works. Thanks, great videos.
I really enjoy the original and I'm glad it got a polished sort of sequel sort of remake. I do feel like the game is a little imbalanced in places. I gather it keeps some of the issues of the original that if you luck into the perfect dueling hero or get an item that makes them perfect, you can duel every single turn and force someone to lose a hero or give you prestige by declining the duel. Similar things can happen with legions. I recall heroes and items that double a battle phase or force your strongest battle phase to occur first are pretty busted. Happy to see "power behind the throne" and "kingmaker" still exist tho. Really fun in multiplayer. Power says if you are a vassal and your lord wins, you steal the win from them. Kingmaker is similar except you pick a player within the first 10 turns and you don't need to be their vassal. They're crowns in this game so you are sacking your relic choice for the alt win condition but so funny to win that way.
You mentioned a potential multiplayer with Das, Lucid, and Battlemode but then got distracted and didn't finish the thought. I assume that it fell through by the way you were talking, or is it just not a concrete plan yet?
Finally I can understand what has been happening in my bowels this last fortnight and now I can get rid of the letter from my doctor admitting me to hospital immediately. Begone foul demons! (flush)
This is probably my favorite WW1 game. If you liked the series, you'll probably enjoy playing. I can't guarantee that but I think the chances are good!
