Hey Martin! Would you recommend a certain internet speed? I know that can be very important
@ELTExperiences

That's a great questions. The best speed for WiFi or internet is 50mbps. Try to get the best internet as possible with a potential internet provider as you will have little to no issue with internet slowing your teaching down.

Please tell me how can I get students because I got so many messages from students but they didn't book even a trial so I am very disappointed even though I reduce my rate from 5 usd to 3 usd But still I don't have any students 😢😢😢😢😢😢
@ELTExperiences
@ELTExperiences 8 дней назад
Having a rate around $3-$5 is incredibly low and I would recommend that you increase your rate to at least $10 minimum. It is a fallacy to believe that a low rate would increase the number of students you could teach. If you want a good teacher, then you must pay a rate that is respectable - most students consider a low paid teacher is unprofessional. Increase your rate, improve your introduction video, add a suitable profile photo and you will then find students will be subscribing.

I've just joined Preply Martin after obtaining my 120 hour Tefl qualification, these unedited trial lessons are excellent, watching this video has given me an idea, would you recomend perhaps sending the student a few questions before the trial lesson, such as where are you from? or what would you like to obtain from learning English? The reason I ask is, in this case, if the Student sent me an email saying they were from somewhere I hadn't been to or visited, I could look up some details regarding their part of the world (tourist attractions, cultural habits etc) to chat with them about in the inital discussion stages. I think your videos are excellent, and your already helping me plan my first trial lessons. Thankyou. Mark

What is the best price for starting??
@ELTExperiences
@ELTExperiences 14 дней назад
The best price for starting for someone with relatively little experience would be around $15 per hour. If you have more experience then I would urge you to consider charging no less than $20 per hour. If you end up charging much less, you are likely to attract a certain client who has little budget for their language learning goals.

Hello i have a questiin is it necessary to write down what students say? Do you also do it on every session?
@ELTExperiences
@ELTExperiences 26 дней назад
This is a great question and thank you for your comment. For me, I try to note down as much as what the student says - both examples of good utterances as well as areas for improvement. I try to be as balanced as possible and then provide positive feedback as well as scaffold language for learners. In a way, I find making a note of what is uttered reminds me about different aspects of what the student has said and then this provides a key example of my dedication. So, yes I do this in every trial lesson.

@ELTExperiences Месяц назад
Thanks for the comment and the question. When it came to having my degree notarised, I had a range of other documents to also have notarised as well. This all cost around £250 or so in total but I believe that one degree certificate costs approximately £70-£80 or so. In fact there is a company in the UK called Hague Apostille which offers competitive prices for one or a number of documents that need notarised and an apostille. More info here: www.hagueapostille.co.uk/. Hope this helps and good luck with your moving to Thailand. 😊

Thank you very much. This is excellent content, and I agree with all, that’s you have mentioned, especially a comfortable chair! Unfortunately, my daughter doesn’t Only teach five or six lessons a day. She teaches more like 8 to 10 lessons per day. That is a hectic schedule, as there’s lesson preparation, homework, feedback, and I need not go on. The reason, she has such a heavy schedule, is because as a South African, she is not regarded by most of the companies, as a native English speaker, and because of this, she is paid much less than other online teachers. This places the South African English speakers in the difficult position, of having to take on a heavier workload, in order to make a decent wage. This is patently unfair, and just because a country has so many official languages, does not indicate, that we are not native English speakers. We are indeed native English speakers, and we have accents not dissimilar from neutral British accents. We are not Afrikaans, nor Zulu speakers. Indeed, there are non native English speakers from South Africa who teach online, but that should be taken into account, when companies hire them. Our mother tongue is English. For this reason, I do wish the companies would recognise this, and pay us accordingly.
