I visited about 10 years ago. The colony is for long termers. Met an old man who had been there 25 years (murder I think) who has not had contact with his family, and do not wish to leave the place.

We were travelling through central Australia a couple of months ago and happened to be in Alice Springs when an AFL match between Melbourne and Fremantle was played there, We are in our.60s and being from a rugby league state we had never been to an AFL match so we decided to go a long and check it out. One of the other couple that we were travelling with was handicapped and needed to sit down, the security refused to let him take his fold up chair into the ground and pointed us in the direction of a grassy hill told us he could sit on the ground there. Everytime we found a place to watch the game people would come and stand in front of us blocking the view. We kept moving but in the end we couldnt see the whole field or the scoreboard so we really had no idea what was going at halftime we just gave up and left. We intend to go to another AFL game but it will only be in a proper stadium with proper facilities that one in Alice was a disaster. Glad that you enjoyed the experience maybe you should go to an NRL match for comprison if the Melbourne Storm happen to be playing at home while you are there.
That sounds like you had a bit of a bad experience. I feel in another setting you may have enjoyed it much more. We had a great time and have since been back for another game!
Hey guys just discovered your channel and it’s pretty cool! Just intrigued how much roughly you guys taking to travel the world and for how long as thinking would like to do the same?
We planned to go for a year but it's been more than that and we're still going! We're currently working in Australia to fund our next lot of travels but we do travel as cheap as possible (hostels, night buses etc) - price really depends on how comfortable you want to be and where you go (Asia is so cheap compared to Australia for example)
Why do foreigners believe that when they arrive in Australia they have to rate Australian snacks on Utube ? They are actually made for the Australian market so you cant be rating them for us as we already know what they are like. If the rating is being done for those back home why bother they have probably never heard of them or are unlikely to come across them. I could understand other foreigners doing it but why would British people try Vegemite like that would you do the same thing with Marmite ? I guess the reason you have never seen or heard of these products is the same reason that Australians have never seen or heard of products from your country its because they dont live there and have not been exposed to them.. Just wondering if I went over to the UK and made a video about British snacks and called them absolutely disgusting what sort of reaction I would get especially from the locals who may have a completely different opinion ?
We liked most of the snacks we tried, vegemite was a no no. Just like you've heard of marmite and may not of tried it, our followers back in England wanted to know what we thought of vegemite (it's not something we can get easily back home). If you don't like this type of video maybe don't watch them? It's quite clear from the title what this video was going to be about 😅 thanks for the comment, have a great day
@@Rkbackpacking i know marmite because you can buy it here. In the last 60 years I have.lived and worked in a number of countries around the world and when there I accepted their customs (including food) without being condescending if I didnt like them When you are a guest in someone elses country you try being a little more diplomatic. Alternatively you can go home……
If everyone liked the same things the world would be a very boring place. The Australians we've spoken to whilst here all appreciate the banter and wouldn't find this offensive in the slightest. As a said before if you don't like it, don't watch it
Possibly not as good as the beaches on gili t but still nice. You can still swim at low tide but you might just need to walk out a little to see any fish!
Aussies love coconut, cherry ripe is Australia's oldest chocolate bar. I highly recommend you get home made or bakery made lamingtons and Anzac biscuits. Shop bought are always rubbish.
Seriously thought you were just joking when you did the Vegemite like that. I can't believe you ate it on dry toast and 20 times as much as you should have in a single bite
OMG are you mad. Why would you put so much Vegemite on the toast. No one in Australia would put that much Vegemite on their toast are you trying to kill your tastebuds for the next week. Loads of butter and a very thin smear so you can still see the toast underneath for starters then you progress to more as you develop the taste for it. Jeez how did you taste anything else it would have literally stripped your taste buds off of your tongue. Bloody Hell.
The man who created the Tim Tam biscuit was travelling through the UK when he came across the Penguin biscuit and decided to make an improvement thus the Tim Tam biscuit was born. Today the Tim Tam biscuit comes in a range of flavours. The Tim Tam biscuit was named after an American racehorse called Tim Tam that won the 1958 Kentucky Derby.
@@Rkbackpacking You should check out all the flavours. The Tim Tam is my favourite biscuit but I hate buying them because I find once I start eating them I can’t stop. They’re that good. If you haven’t you should try a Tim Tam Slam.
@@Rkbackpacking not a lolly but if you can grab a chikko roll from a fish and chips shop (they normally only have them in QLD). Also as a kid I LIVED off cream buns you get in the bakery. But I think you got all the grocery store lollies so well done and enjoy :)
Far far far too much vegemite. Try to find a tim tam slam video. Milo is not supposed to mix well in cold milk... you get the spoon and spoon up the bits off the top, yum. Then put more on, with a clean spoon. When the milk is really dark, you can drink it.
@@RkbackpackingMilo in cold milk is an Aussie classic, it takes forever to dissolve even a little. Put in twice the Milo you did and scoop the milk filled Milo from the top. But as mentioned it makes a great hot drink. 3 or 4 spoons to a mug filled with boiling water, top with cold milk and add sugar to taste.
