Hello I like messing with most technical things, especially motorcycles and even eMTBs Back in the mists of time I trained as an auto electrician ( full old school apprenticeship), then studied at university as a mature student and ended my working career in IT On this channel I post various videos covering whatever I happen to be fiddling with at the moment, but my main project just now is restoration of a 1982 Yamaha XT550. Progress may be a bit slow, and my videoing and editing skills are growing slowly, so please be patient. I have previously fully restored a 1979 Suzuki TS250, but that was before RU-vid and phones with cameras! I also run and maintain a CCM GP450. Oh, and I built 2 eMTBs for me and the wife. If you enjoy this kind of stuff them please subscribe and I welcome your comments. Thank you
Great bike! Looks like it was a complete disassembly and repaint including the frame. I recall Suzuki had a similar paint with solid dark orange/red and another in solid yellow from the factory but with Suzuki in black letters on the tank.
Bro, take those indicator lights off as they're useless and drain the 6v battery in seconds! I bought a new TS250 in 1979 as a kid...I wish that I still had it
Hi, thanks for your comment. The indicators have been upgraded to LED bulbs, they work brilliantly, are very visible and no problems with the battery. I agree that the original bulbs were very unreliable.
@@grecoa7 Thanks for the reply! I wish there were LED's back in the day lol...I'm really jealous of your TS and I really wish that I still had mine. I saw one at auction last year and it sold for nearly 9000 British Pounds. I bought mine new for 550 Pounds lol
@@grecoa7 Can yo provide me the 6V LED brand/model bulbs you used? I have an '81 DT175H Yamaha and haven't found LED bulbs that have actually worked. Thanks in advance.
@@grecoa7 thanks. What method did you use to remove the old bearings? We have one where the bearing has collapsed leaving just the outer race in the metal cup.
Hi Grecoa Really appreciate your videos. I just fixed my clutch with your help. Thank you! I have a weird problem with my xt 550: - She suddenly didn‘t start as well as she normally did.. - Spark plug was really dark and burnt - Fuel is getting into my oil system… What I already checked: - Carburertor float is working perfectly and parts replaced. - spark plug is brandnew - oil is brand new (I drained the oil from the motor and not the frame) Somehow the problem is still here: - now she starts super fast, but I believe the fuel is still getting in the oil system. And when I had the motor running and opened the oil lid from the frame it looked like there are bubbles coming out of it. Do you have an idea what might be wrong?
Hi Lars Sorry for the delay, I have only just seen your question. Sounds like too much fuel from carb. You need to check the float height as per the manual (probably worth doing a full carburetor clean at same time). Also you should check that the fuel cut off floats do actually float correctly. Put them in a small container of fuel, they should float high in the fuel. If they sit low in the fuel sometimes they can perish and actually absorb fuel and become heavy. If so they wil need to be replaced for new ones. I hope that this helps.
Hello. Have you had the kickstart shaft completely apart? If you have it is important that assemble everything correctly aligned on the splines, as shown in the workshop manual. Once that is done the spring should fit at the right tension but also the de-compressor mechanism will be set to work at the correct part of the kick stroke. If you are a member of the Facebook XT550 Owner Group there is a copy of the manual in the files section. I hope this helps.
