Yes it was a bit tight that pass into Barn, should have been a word in his ear by the marshals, overtaking when tipping in. Close one. Well ridden 👍

This is a really cool POV. Is the GoPro attached to the tank?
@somotorrad5509
@somotorrad5509 4 месяца назад
Unfortunately they don’t allow it. I even had a tank ring RAM mount with an extension arm pointing flat away from me, but no, they think it is safer to attach it to the handlebars which means the GoPro extension arm is pointing towards me instead! You can see the clamp for it on the right. It is a shame, as from the tank you would see the movement in the handlebars more, but at least the dash/headlight on this bike is fixed to the headstock, rather than the forks, so you can still see some movement.

I'm looking into improving my leans... how do you build confidence? Sometimes when i try to lean further I get to a point where the bike feels like want's to fall straight down and i just straighten it up... And i'm not like leaning it at all
@somotorrad5509
@somotorrad5509 8 месяцев назад
This is how I understand it and sorry for repeating what you already know or for stating the obvious, but it may help someone; The light feeling is a warning and it may be just how tense you are on the bike at that moment. It is essential to have relaxed arms and even the upper half of your body. Your legs and feet stabilise, support and secure you on the bike, leaving your upper half to move freely and bend your elbows. Trying to intentionally lean is not the aim, it is just the result of going faster around the same corner. If we are just trying to lean as far as possible, we end up carrying the same speed for too long around the corner, rather than braking hard and then looking to accelerate again as soon as possible. Research whatever you can find about counter-steering to understand it and practice it to feel the sensation as best as you can. There are videos on RU-vid. It is easy to misunderstand it early on. When I feel I am getting closer to my limits, I have to remind myself to relax my arms and give it a little more counter-steering input to tighten the line and reach the apex. I think a common problem for people building experience on the track in particular is coming on and off the throttle several times through the corner. This upsets the balance and load on the tyres and suspension, the stability and then the rider’s feedback and confidence. Even when at the extremities of lean the bike has the best ground clearance, stability and grip whilst you are under very slight acceleration. You can see and hear me practicing this through the apexes in this video. Once you have slowed down for the corner and now that you are turning towards the apex, the bike still wants to slow down gradually and keep turning, so pick up the throttle just slightly, don’t accelerate yet, just keep the bike from slowing down. You now have maximum stability and even load on the tyres and suspension. The aim is to maintain that slight throttle through the corner without letting it off again and unsettling the bike. You can still steer the bike progressively by using more or less counter-steering. Once you have got through the apex and are now looking where you want to head towards next, you can open the throttle gradually and consistently until you are heading that direction. Too much too soon and you will run wide and have to chop the throttle again. The confidence itself is only gained through practice and experience, without that personal experience it is just blind faith. Being as smooth and progressive with your inputs as possible and consciously relaxing is safest and fastest.

standard exhaust?
@somotorrad5509
@somotorrad5509 9 месяцев назад
Unfortunately yes. I did not realise when ordered this bike these are now welded together throughout, thanks Triumph! I would normally consider the exhaust options, but a full exhaust with the fuelling changes necessary is so expensive now. I'Il spend that money on track-days and tyres first.

Nice! Having one of these myself, I guarantee, you're having more fun than the guy that went past up the inside at 15:32! Still using the diablo supercorsa's? I've just fitted Continental ContiRace attack2- streets after killing my tyre from 2 track days and 1400 miles. So far, really really impressed with them.
@somotorrad5509
@somotorrad5509 9 месяцев назад
I tried the Metzeler TD slicks for the first time here. Mainly to save money, being able to flip/reverse the rear tyre. Having done that I still went through the wear indicators on the rear in just 2 days. The next day I was at Oulton Park for a Road Bike Only track-day, so I put the original Supercorsa SP’s back on. I did not feel much difference at all. I would have gone through a rear SC in just 2 days as well by the looks of it. Still really happy with both these tyres, no surprises and plenty of grip for this bike. I have just fitted Michelin Road 6’s on the road wheels, to use as ‘intermediates’ and on the road this winter. On road they are great and noticeably more comfortable on this bike, I do rate them as an all weather road tyre. At Brands Hatch in the wet though, the Road 6’s we’re not as great as I had hoped for on track.

Nice!! Hoping to get there on my 765RS next year now. One circuit I've never done in the uk. I've done knockhill and Donington on my 23' so far and it's brilliant on track. Such a great bike and you've chosen a great colour! 😉😁👍😎💛

@somotorrad5509 9 месяцев назад
Thanks, I am loving this colour. It was my first time at Oulton and it suits this bike perfectly. Lots of undulations and crests for the front to get light and move around a bit, making it feel fast at least. Plus, no really long straights for mid-size bikes to get completely left behind. Oulton is a long way from home for me, but is now at the top of my list for revisiting 👍

@somotorrad5509
@somotorrad5509 9 месяцев назад
It is a struggle to get it much over 130mph anywhere on this bike, even whilst hugging the tank. I’m not sure if this new 2023> model is even giving full power over that speed. It is frustrating me on track as it so well set up to ride fast in every other way. As you say, it is brilliant, especially on road.

Any issues with the shift star inside the clutch hub breaking?
@somotorrad5509
@somotorrad5509 2 года назад
Yes. With only 70 miles from new one of the pins of the shift star broke off and it would no longer change gear. I took it back under warranty and I was there when the technician took the clutch cover off. It was clear it was a manufacturing defect with a weakness in that pin. The shift star was replaced and I have had no further issue with that.

Great run! What tire pressures you run?
@somotorrad5509
@somotorrad5509 2 года назад
I set them when they were cold at the start of day at probably about 30 psi front and rear. These are only sports-touring tyres and it is a relatively heavy bike, so I avoided starting any lower. I may have taken 1 or 2 psi out of the rear during the day. You can just about see the tyre pressures on the screen. I think it reads that the current pressures were in the mid to high 30’s and the ambient temperature was 18 degrees C. Great info to have on the move.

@somotorrad5509
@somotorrad5509 2 года назад
Thanks. They come with a steering damper. It has a lot of resistance as standard and you can see why they need it. I found the standard screen has noisy turbulence, so I tried it without and just preferred it. Visibility is better off-road and works really well without it on the track.

What's your thoughts on the bike after the rapid bike module and pipe?
@somotorrad5509
@somotorrad5509 2 года назад
Good and bad. I mainly hoped the Rapid Bike would improve the on/off throttle, as others gave positive views (the few I could find). It doesn’t. The complete fuelling cut by the bike’s ECU whilst the throttle is closed is the problem. It ruins trying to get back on the throttle smoothly around every bend. This RB Evo on it’s own does not cure this at all. I am reluctant to buy the Youtune add-on just to test if Engine Braking facility works. Fuel efficiency is about the same. I am now considering an ECU remap, which I was trying to avoid, mainly to have the fuel cut modified. The exhaust is cheap to buy, so I can not complain much. Cheap to replace, as the silencer is vulnerable to damage if dropped. The front pipes touched my Touratech skid-plate, so I had to fit 5mm spacers to the plate (they cleared the standard plate). I could feel the full system actually lost torque over the standard exhaust, until I fitted the RB. The RB seems to have at least brought it back to standard, if not slightly more power by now (I bought the Akrapovic map version of the RB). It is a very nice sounding silencer with the baffle in, my favourite bit. Any louder would be rude. Overall it saves about 4kgs over the full original exhaust. With hindsight, I would save money by sticking with the standard front pipe (mine is Euro 4), fit only this BlackWidow silencer (300mm Hexagonal) along with a Smart Moto O2 eliminator that I used previously (also improves my 701 and did on the 1290 SA). The eliminator had just a bit more of an improvement over the on/off throttle than the RB. For now I am putting up with the toggle throttle because everything else about this engine and the bike is great fun on and off-road 😀
