Im new to these devices, which would be recommend if i have to buy one? Like which one is more accurate? Btw does it need at least 1.5m distance for sensing the ball? And how well does it detect the white ball?
Among budget monitors, I would rank them like this in terms of accuracy, features, and value. I believe the two best options currently available for under $1,000 are the MLM 2 PRO and the Original Skytrak. These are the two I believe offer the best accuracy of these 4 devices. The MLM 2 PRO requires approximately 2 meters of distance behind the ball and at least 2.5 meters of ball flight to function optimally. The Original Skytrak does not have distance requirement because it sits beside the ball and is an optical-based device. Both devices seem to have no trouble detecting white balls. However, when using the Skytrak with a white ball, it's best to avoid wearing white shoes or having a lot of white color in your background. Hope this helps, but let me know if you have any more questions. Accuracy (compared to mid- to high-level launch monitors) 1. Rapsodo MLM 2 PRO ** - Requires RPT Balls and Subscription for best accuracy. 2. Original Skytrak 3. Garmin R10 * - Requires RCT balls for best accuracy. 4. Voice Caddie SC4 Features (both native apps and 3rd-party software): 1. Rapsodo MLM 2 PRO * - future update with club data. 2. Original Skytrak 3. Garmin R10 4. Voice Caddie SC4 Value (lowest cost for a 5-year lifespan): 1. Voice Caddie SC4 - $449 New (Dicks SG) 2. Garmin R10 - $495 New (Amazon) 3. Original Skytrak - $895 New (Amazon) 4. Rapsodo MLM 2 PRO - $699 New (Just about anywhere) sub $199 yr after first year.
Hi, thanks for watching. Per Rapsodo I don't believe foam balls will work with the MLM2PRO. Rapsodo FAQ Page - "No, MLM2PRO™ will not capture data with foam/plastic balls. You will want to use a Range or Premium Golf Ball, and with MLM2PRO™ it is recommended that you use the included Callaway®RPT™ Chrome Soft X™ Balls to take advantage of all the metrics that can be captured (Spin and Spin Axis)."
Thanks for the video. At about $1,000 would you recommend the older skytrak vs the skytrak+ for a little over double the cost? It looks like the version 5 works fine on the older version.
Hi, thanks for watching. I haven't had a SkyTrak Plus yet on the channel, but I've used one at a friend's place a few times and honestly, I don't think it's worth the extra $2k in price vs the OG. If you're looking for a great deal, check out the refurbished SkyTrak OG on Amazon. It's refurbished from SkyTrak and costs $695. It's a fantastic value for the original model. Hi, thanks for watching! I created this using an old putting mat I had. The mat is a pinstripe putting mat from Amazon(link below). I cut a section out, then used carpet tape to secure it to a 1x6 board. www.amazon.com/PINSTRIPE-GOLF-Putting-Mats-Indoor/dp/B085WB3BT5?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1
Hi, thanks for watching! Yes, I've noticed a significant improvement in the device since its initial release. It accurately tracks most shots very well. The only shots I've found it struggles with are extremely low launch shots, like a worm burner with a driver or fairway wood. The clubhead can sometimes block the ball from the device for longer than a typical shot.
Thanks for watching, and I apologize for the audio quality. When I started this channel last year, I struggled with several audio issues in the first few months of videos. I plan to review the SC4/Orbit again soon, and when I do, I'll probably remove those earlier videos.
Yeah, I agree, any software that can be natively integrated is usually going to give the user a better experience, and more options are always great. The problem I have with Skytrak V5 is that it seemed to launch before it was really ready, kind of like the Skytrak + monitor last year. For a first version of course software, the graphics are pretty good, but the small course list and all the things they need to fix and improve make it nowhere near worth $220 a year right now. I feel it would have been better received if they had either waited and launched a more polished version later this year or priced it more correctly at around $100-$125 in year one. Then, after they work out the bugs and expand the course library, maybe up the price to $199-$249. I'm also seeing that 5.0 isn't working or working well with GSPro, so my friend is having to still load into V4 to use GSPro with his Skytrak+. This makes me wonder if they'll pull a Bushnell and try to kill the GSPro connection in favor of their own course software in the future.
In that video, I'm using a 7.7' x 13' preferred screen from Carl's Place. The preferred material is their mid-grade. I eventually put a hole in this screen and switched to a newer one. The new screen is a premium triple layer that I bought as raw material from Virtual Golf Simulator. It appears to have the same material and thickness as the better Carl's Place premium screen but at a much cheaper cost as a raw material screen. so ive just ordered a skytrak plus, excited to upgrade from my r10, would you say it holds up well enough to buy this subscription or go gspro route? also do i need the basic subscription to use gspro on skytrak
Congrats on the upgrade. Did you take advantage of the Amazon deals for the Plus? I think until they fix the bugs and expand the course library, I'd definitely go with GS Pro for the first year. It'll likely take them six months to a year to improve their product. The graphics look pretty good, but the putting, terrain, and slope effects need a lot of work. Once you set up your Clubhouse account and activate your device, I'd reach out to their support and ask for a course play trial. If they see you just bought the device and are within the return window, they might be more likely to give you a trial.
Based on your data it seems like using a regular ball for driver and wood shots gives a better result and using RCT balls for everything else is better. Maybe its just a matter of the radar working better with higher spin rates and the estimation algorithm working better for lower spin rates.
Yeah, indoor radar units can struggle with higher ball speeds, especially at the minimum 8-foot ball flight distance. However, I still believe the RCT balls are a worthwhile investment for more accurate spin readings.
I bought the Orion software this week and find it much better than E6. E6 is 20 to 25 yds shorter than the SC4 is reading. Orion is spot on with my normal distances.
That's good to hear, but it's surprising E6 is off by that much. If you haven't already, definitely check the elevation setting in E6 and try to match it as closely as possible to your local conditions, or at least to what's set in Orion.
Yeah, that was kind of a let down unfortunately. Honestly, I was hoping for a bit more gamification, like being able to hit and break the wall to practice launch angle control. Oh well, hopefully, we'll see some more customization options or maybe even a target range in future updates.
Most golf simulator software allows you to create a custom bag of clubs, which is highly recommended for better stat tracking over time. For accuracy and software compatibility, the Rapsodo MLM2PRO is a superior choice to the SC4/Orbit. It boasts significantly higher accuracy with RPT balls and offers a wider range of compatible software. If space is limited, the OG Skytrak is a viable alternative, especially since its price has dropped significantly closer to the SC4/Orbit and MLM2PRO.
I have the ST+. Going to add the courses when my current subscription ends. There are some issues, but not a bad first iteration. Great point on the practice feature - would like to be able to practice on course. Interested in seeing how often GOLFTEC will update the software since they are now using the ST+ in their studio. When/If they release those 200 courses - that will be outright insane.
I hope they update the system frequently, like Rapsodo did with the MLM2PRO (almost monthly) in its first year. If they expand the course library to 200-300 courses, it would be great if they also created an online community/tour to rival GST. However, this would likely happen only after the course expansion. Since they are already promising a mobile update in September, perhaps we will see more improvements and courses at that time as well.
I've looked into it a little bit and watched the Optishot demo video. Considering its launch price, I'm not sure it has any value in the current market. The two positives are that it doesn't require an ongoing subscription and it can do putting. However, I'd still like to test one out on the channel to see how accurate and functional it is. I'll try to get one to test on the channel, hopefully in the next month or so. With a price tag of $1750, I just don't see it selling very well. To be a valuable option, its accuracy would need to match the MLM2PRO or Skytrak, and ideally be priced much closer to $1,000. For comparison.. you could get these options for same cost - MLM2PRO: $700 (plus 5 years of premium subscription for a total of $1700) - OG Skytrak (New): $1000 (plus New Essentials plan: $130/year and Course Play: $220/year) - Two-year of subscriptions brings the total to $1700 - OG Skytrak (Used): $700 (plus New Essentials plan: $130/year and Course Play: $220/year) - Three-year of subscriptions brings the total to $1750
Great video, i have the MLM2PRO and im thinking of buying gspro so i can play courses like this, but i only have a pretty old gaming pc so im not sure if it can run gspro
Thank you! I think it's the best software out there right now. They offer several performance levels, so you can achieve the desired FPS even on older hardware. For example, I play on 1080 ultra and get 60+ fps on all courses with my 3070ti. Even my old AMD 5700 non-XT managed 30+ fps on the newer courses and 60+ on the older ones.
RPT balls help you get more accurate spin numbers overall and provide side spin for shot shape movement. However, several updates since this video have improved the ball physics in the software. Now, the ball will stop or even back up regardless of the ball used.
If you bought the SC4 as the Orbit device from Optishot, it will come with a card containing a redemption code for the Orion software. If you only purchased the SC4 and received the E6 demo license, you'll need to purchase the Orion software directly from Optishot's portal (link below). Once you create an account on the linked website, you can redeem your code (if you have the card) and download the software. Even if you didn't buy the Orbit from Optishot, you can still purchase Orion software through the Orion Live dashboard. However, the purchase process is a bit indirect: you need to buy coins first and then use them to redeem the Orion Live software. For a more straightforward purchase option, consider contacting Optishot support. They might offer an easier way to acquire the Orion software. @@homelaunchgolf thank you, I bought the SC4. I actually get the 30 E6 courses I get use on my SLX simulator. I just like the Optishot Orion courses looks better. Plus u can buy courses u really like and not too expensive. Thanks for the help.
I'm not sure you can manipulate the data well in the Voice Caddie App. You can somewhat try to balance it out with the same trick as the Garmin R10, by adjusting the elevation in the software like E6 to get the numbers to appear closer. Unfortunately, with the SC4 not calculating side spin, it's going to be hard on big hooks and slices to get those to be accurate no matter what. E6, in my opinion, has an algorithm that was much closer with wedges and irons than the Voice Caddie App or SC4 device display.
They do have a pretty good video on how to set up E6 [link below], but it only shows the iOS setup process. I checked my E6 portal and confirmed that my Voice Caddie demo license key is registered for both mobile and PC. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3qBHhV_x0mo.html
If you have enough space, I would go with the MLM2PRO. Being the newer device with continued development, it is just going to get better. If your space is limited, I think the OG Skytrak is still a great option, but it is as good as it's probably going to get since they are developing more for the newer Skytrak Plus. Going to get an OG skytrak here soon and test on the channel.
This has been a bit of a complaint with the R10 and E6. I've contacted their support before, and unfortunately, the app doesn't display face angle and swing path while you're playing. However, you can see this information under the analytics tab if you log into your E6 account portal after completing the round. They also mentioned that the R10 doesn't transmit attack angle data, so it won't be available in the app. Hope that helps!
Yes, that's normal. The connection to GSPro from the MLM2PRO is through a third-party Bluetooth connector and isn't officially supported by Rapsodo. Hopefully, like other monitors have implemented, they will offer native support for GSPro in the future.
I’m torn between the MLM2 and the original SkyTrak. SkyTrak being the price it is now is what has me thinking that way. I’d be using outside into a net and eventually having an enclosed area to put a screen. Not sure if the SkyTrak really has much more to offer over the MLM2 though 🤔
Yeah, the pricing cuts definitely make the SkyTrak more attractive. A year ago, the SkyTrak would have been an easy choice, but the improvements to the MLM2PRO have made it a very compelling device. In my opinion, if you have enough space in your future indoor space and putting isn't important to you, I would go with the MLM2PRO. SkyTrak Pros: Shorter Space Requirement No subscription and works with GSPro. Can putt with it. Cons: Small hitting area Sunlight outside can cause issues Requires moving device for left and right-handed use Longer shot delay MLM2PRO Pros: Larger hitting area Shot and Impact Vision Cameras No need to move for left or right-handed play Cons: Requires dotted balls for accuracy indoors Some have reported device connection issues (this has improved over time) Most desired software features are locked behind a premium subscription ($199 a year)
It is a 5x5 monster mat and I have been using it for about 2.5 years. I got it from safe play golf. www.safeplaygolf.com/Driving-Range-Mats.html Pros - real divot feel, punishes fat shots, easy on the joints. Cons - green plastic comes off onto the clubs and because it's a great fairway feel mat it's not great to putt on.
MLM2PRO FIRMWARE UPDATE (V3.8.20) As some of you have already seen in your inbox, a new Firmware is now avaialabe. While these issues are not impacting all users, the improvements in this new firmware (3.8.20) include: - Launch Angle improvements for those experiencing issues - Magenta Light Fix (user must install new firmware, then restart their unit once the firmware update is complete - Improved connection - Lessen the amount of time the shot takes to display on screen
@@homelaunchgolf - I got it from the official Rapsodo community Facebook page. I remembered it because I had just purchased my MLM 2 Pro when it came out and saw this post.
Yeah, you kind of read my mind... I was planning to do that comparison next week and I have also ordered an Ex Putt device. My next few videos will focus on testing how well the Bluetooth connector works with GSPro and the Ex Putt/MLM2PRO devices.
I struggled with MLM2Pro connection issues and annoying missed shots for months before getting a GC2. Absolutely love it so far, and it's so nice in combination with GSPro. Do you have any build info on the GC2 slider? I was thinking about just using a board and a bottom mount drawer slide.
love my GC2....I haven't tried the new Bluetooth connector with MLM yet, but videos show it might have some latency and disconnects issues. I still intend to give it a shot just to see if its improved recently. For the slider, I used a linear rail kit, but I think the bottom drawer mount could work too. Here are the links to what I used. I originally built a much longer version, but decided to cut it down for a little bit more ease of use. Yeah, you should be able to use the same setup with a net. You can even throw a bed sheet or canvas drop cloth in front of the net if you still want to use a projector.
Yeah, I'm curious how you were able to get so close to the Foresight. I've owned my MLM2PRO for 8 months now and I'm always like 20-30 yards shorter than my actual shot. It works amazing on the range but I've struggled to get it anywhere near accurate at home.
Hi, Thanks for watching. I tried to measure out everything in my setup to ensure I have the correct ball flight distance and distance between the unit and the ball. I also make sure the MLM2PRO is level and sitting at least level with my hitting mat. I will say in the early days I had some trouble with indoor swing syndrome and it took me a little bit to trust the space to be able to swing normally. Do you feel you swing differently inside? Are you using a second monitor to verify the yardage differences?
In my experience, most shots with the MLM 2 PRO seem to be a little shorter than with my GC2, but not significantly. Wedges and irons tend to be only a couple of yards short, while driver distances can vary by 10-20 yards at times.
