Not sure if the movie is the best intro to Pink Floyd.......it tells the story behind the album, but is not kind to the actual music. Except for The Great Gig In The Sky, all Floyd should be experienced LIVE !!! Although, the original vinyl or CD of Time and The Great Gig together as one song is a great starting point. Don't want to give too much away, but Time is about our life, the Great Gig is the end of time, our time. Originally the 5 stages of death, the live versions are mostly just 3 stages sung by 2 or 3 singers, as it is considered too difficult for just one singer.
I'm new to the channel, but I'm surprised neither of you have done anything with Strung Out yet. They're a punk band with a lot of metal influences to the point that Mike Hyde produced several of their albums. He also worked with Slayer, Defones, Monster Magnet, Behemoth...
"And precious tomes to fuel your pulpy conflagrations" also has one more literal meaning: Book burning. Either as a metaphor for censorship and control of information and literal banning and burning of books.
😂The outro was way too long!?? That legendary guitar solo by one of the most acclaimed guitarists in rock and roll? I think the guy's problem is he was distracted by the video and couldn't properly listen to and appreciate the music. Always better to do the studio versions of their songs first for the true sonic experience. BTW if you don't like guitar solos or are indifferent to them, Pink Floyd just may not be for you. Gilmour's guitar solos are iconic and is one of the key elements that make Pink Floyd's sound so unique.
Pink Floyd's last tour was the Pulse concert of 1994. Guitarist David Gilmour and Roger Waters were both the "front men" of the group however David Gilmour's voice is probably more recognizable as he sings the most of their most popular songs. Roger and Dave still tour separately as solo acts doing plenty of Floyd material. Gilmour was the legendary guitarist of the group. Roger was its brilliant Lyricist and conceptual leader whose enormous ego sadly got the better of him and he left the band.
This is quintessential Bad Religion. The only thing I think that was missed here - which is fine, it's been a long time since this came out - but, like, there were a lot of things happening AT THE TIME when this was written and released.
Music videos were a new art form for music in this early era of MTV. Pre cell phone, and no internet, televisions were turned on to MTV all hours of the day. This could be why songs got longer.
Roger waters is touring regularly, Nick Mason is touring with his own version playing early Floyd music pre Dark Side and David Gilmour is releasing a new album soon. Sadly Rick Wright died so that is Pink Floyd.
did you noticed that in the chorus the phrases begins with the back vocals articulating in the first half with the lead voice is answering them but in the second half they change their roles and is the lead voice who start talking and then the back vocals answering. it's so good
Hello Liam and Mika do you think I can convert both of you to a rock band from Japan called BAND-MAID 😊Please check out their song Choose me (Official Music Video) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MZIJ2vFxu9Y.htmlsi=6vhScePkWI9kCtUD
Thank you so much!! This was our first donation, so it means a lot to us, and we will be releasing our reaction to your song suggestion in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
Pulse version is best (I saw that Tour) Waters left the Band years ago and David Gilmore has said many times that Pink Floyd is over, he and Nick Mason (Drummer) are the only 2 left.
This song is so hard, just when you got a face shredding guitar solo into the hardest breakdown you get another guitar solo. I also remember a trip to lake Tahoe a buddy was with me and i was listening to a metal mix and i said to him, "the next song is Domination by Pantera" and it fuckin came on. Something about this song
I vote 5/5 - Thanks for helping Dastardly understand the album's concepts. The thing that caught me was your description of movie and you only touched on the father being killed in WWII. I think it's worth expanding that conversation, specifically because this song is a reflection of the English boarding school system in the '50's and '60's. I know you know this and you can only say so much at one time, so I'm just picking up where you were compelled to end the current conversation. My point is that I think it's important to know The Wall is semi-autobiographical for Roger. These songs are a collection of events and situations and are good "stand-alone" compositions, but they also detail a more comprehensive life story for people to contemplate.
I agree with others in suggesting that you check out the 1994 Pulse concert, you can enjoy the visuals with the music performed at this concert, the entire concert is Epic and it would Awesome if you did the entire concert in segments, God Bless PS: Please try to not pause Pink Floyd music so much, it is said to be a sin to pause Pink Floyd music once its started, just saying .. 😉
I appreciate that you are doing Pink Floyd. They made concept albums. If you really want to experience them, listen to their albums as a whole. Enjoy your journey. They are awesome.
I saw Roger Waters do the entire Dark Side of the Moon as the album in 2007. They had a mix set appetizer featuring this. I was maybe 40-60 feet away from Roger. Got the ticket stub
So there was a brief period in the 60s when a group of hippies, including the notorious Abbie Hoffman, tried to spread the rumor that smoking dried banana peels would get you high. The idea was to try and get politicians to make speeches about banning bananas which they felt would be so ludicrously funny that everyone would see how ridiculous the whole drug war was. The prank didn't work to that extent but did spawn things like the jokes at the start of this video as well as a fantastic song from Donovan called "Mellow Yellow."
I would say that the one unfortunate thing about this music video is the sound mix leans too heavily into the riot at the end and drowns out some truly superlative guitar work from Gilmour.
@@LadyIarConnacht This song has a 4/4 disco beat for sure, it was very popular at the time. The Stones had several songs, even the Grateful Dead has a disco tinged hit with Shakedown Street, and Queen with Another One Bits The Dust, there were many. But 99% of rock didn't have disco beats.
this song came out when I was in 6th grade, and our student council petitioned the school successfully to have this song played in the lunch room every Friday...that was pretty badass. Young legislators making a difference😁
