Another great video Brock! Would be keen to get your thoughts on a slightly different perspective - if people have become used to someone’s high performance, does it then become easier to spot their small mistakes and think “they aren’t living up to their reputation/abilities” ?
Absolutely, I've seen it before - someone has a really strong personal brand/reputation, but then when people work with them for the first time they are almost "underwhelmed" by them. Having a strong reputation can even motivate people to find your flaws - it's a natural human tendency for us to want to bring down those we perceive as being above us. Everything has two sides and nothing comes free, so the downsides of a strong brand are the higher expectations and experiencing tall poppy syndrome. You don't get to avoid problems in life, but you get to choose them.
I love that video - James makes it really clear and memorable with the airplane analogy. I think that's something I can do better in future videos - making the key message memorable with a concise analogy. I guess that's why he's got 17k subs ;) Thanks for sharing!
This is pretty good! Thanks for sharing. It would be helpful for me to also clearly DEFINE the peaks and the stable parts of any responsibility. In a way, it creates a sense of urgency to get to that stable, less intensive part ASAP so that I don't feel overwhelmed. It also alleviates the sense of overwhelm because you can clearly see that the peak will not be forever (even though it can sometimes feel that way). I've been avoiding taking on new clients because of that feeling so this helps a lot.
