What are the red flags that we are missing? In crisis mental health we have 15 mins with a pt, how do we ensure that we ask the correct questions to screen for disorders?!?!?

1:11:19 When that male colleague got his female patient referred back to him, let’s examine the facts and other unknown variables. A MALE doctor in the psychiatric ward put the patient on antidepressants. By the time this female patient resumed sessions with her usual psychiatrist, it’s unclear whether or not the antidepressants were having an effect and to what degree. As most of us already know, antidepressants can have significant deleterious effects on sexual ideation and/or function. If her sex drive had been more or less wiped out by the antidepressants, by the time she resumed treatment with her usual psychiatrist, she may have already started to develop *Sex Avoidance Disorder.* With the way antidepressants work (i.e. clobbering sex drive), the very idea may have become revolting to her. Now here was a DOCTOR - aggressing into the MOST PERSONAL domain of her psychological existence. She fired him out of self preservation. Doctors often mistakenly think they have consent when they really don’t. And all it takes is ONE question to make it feel like you’ve been violated. Just ASKING the question where the patient is then being put on the SPOT, feels like an act of aggression. This recently happened to me from a male medical doctor. We’re both the same gender, but he asked me a question about my sexual history without asking PERMISSION to ask the question. Therefore when I gave an answer of ‘no,’ this answer had been STOLEN from me. Just before this medical doctor, I had been sexually and psychologically violated by a FEMALE medical doctor. She actually HIJACKED my mind using antidepressants and sexual contact. I almost became her SLAVE. In the complete opposite of that patient who fell in love with his psychiatrist, I now had a woman who was dominating me and I didn’t know how to get free almost wondering if I should actually submit to her. That’s the toughest part. When someone has a grip over you and you seem to almost want them to have this power. You don’t know what’s what. Should you let them assume dominance over you? It’s someone who becomes addicted to any other substance. Your morals tell you it’s wrong, but something deep inside you, a character flaw perhaps, draws you like a moth to the flame, letting someone turn you into her puppet to play with and then discard. As a doctor, you sit there with your academic mindset, but on the other side of the curtain is the patient who has to defend against this doctor’s intrusions into our own private domain. It’s extremely dangerous to let the enemy gain too much territory.
@DaRyteJuan
@DaRyteJuan 8 месяцев назад
Fortunately or unfortunately, it would seem there are a lot of medical doctors who know how to read a patient as if we’re an open book with a table of contents and an index. And if we’re not being extremely attentive, they’re able to weaponize our sexuality against us. Two out of the last three medical doctors have done this to me. Well, one of them was successful and and other one I was able to more or less fend off. I suppose, now that I understand what I’m in for, I’m going to remind myself to say a little prayer before any future encounters with any doctors. Sometimes fighting for your life is just defending against any form of sexual invasion. We have to send out protective energy so the enemy doesn’t even consider trying to mount an assault.

I can notice at many times that he is so alien to anorexia. And his recommendations focusing mainly on just eating are very dangerous. Sure, habits can be broken then, but the affected psyche is overwhelmed with that situation and will find other ways to sooth desperation which might even get more detrimental than the original anorexia problem. He also overestimates some results. E.g. it's extremely unsurprising that anorexics eat low-fat and prefer low-fat.
@orangemango3016
@orangemango3016 Год назад
I definitely agree with you. Also when Timothy Walsh said that the numbers of cases of anorexia have been stable over the past 40 years… - that’s simply miss information. Also not mentioning the rapid increase of other ed cases is quite frankly negligent. I wonder where that info is from. Because he surely didn’t work in the nhs ed programs where cases sky rocketed, especially during lockdowns & even before the pandemic.
@anabelv4
@anabelv4 Год назад
@@orangemango3016 Oh yes, that's true, too, I also wondered about that.... And I also find his tone strange at times, e.g. when he presents the simple weight gain as a win, neglecting that weight gain alone may not say anything about the psyche.

A lot of talk, but no real information regarding how to get help for attachment disorder. Panelists seem more concerned with telling the lady dr. how great she is. She may be and even have the credentials, but besides encouraging addicted moms they have the solution to helping their own addicted baby with nurturing them, which is great. But what about others?

If I may, allow me to pint not only as mental health care providers, but anyone who may not be able to afford or access said services to some other resources. There are some who have known about the environmental crisis we face and who have formulated strategies for facing the inevitable issues that thus arise, as well as coping stratégies. Please check out Joanna Macy, Caroline Baker, Dean Scott Walker and Michael Dowd (Post Doom with Michael Dowd, where he hosts a series of interviews with thought leaders in this field). A great read? Try Die Wise, by Stephen Jenkinson. You guys are on the right path, but seem not to understand others have broken the path you seem to think you’re breaking…

Now 55:00 in. If you are going to spout statistics, you’d best provide your sources! An American child is going to have a vastly greater impact on the environment than will one from Bhutan. A child born to wealthier parents (no matter where on Earth) will have more impact on the environment than will a child born to poorer parents in that same country. Let’s not be naive… What this comes down to is inequity. What it comes down to a system designed for the exploitation of those without by those with… What is demanded is systemic change. Given that power never cèdes power, and that power corrupts… change will NEVER happen by trying to work within the system. This, the only answer is revolution. Power, however, has the power - so a revolution has to manifest non-violently. Gandhi and MLK understood this… Strikes and boycotts seem to be our most viable options… Hit them where it hurts (their wallets)

I’m only 24:00 in, but there several problems with your data that need correcting. Sir David King has recently said that we already at 1.35C. James Hansen (and others) have said it is now impossible to stay below 1.5. Dr. Peter Carter (in his YT channel Peter Carter) on 6/27/22) put out a video using IPCC, COP data and graphs showing that according to climate forcing (insolation), we will blow by 1.5 relatively soon. He uses CO2e (carbon dioxide equivalency) measures, which include the other primary GHGs (methane and nitrous oxide) to clearly show (from NASA, the IPCC, and COP) that we have ZERO chance of staying below 1.5C

Interesting presentation. Regarding involuntary psychiatric treatment, the matter is one of civil rights and individual liberties. I regard suicide strictly as a matter that belongs to ethics or religion, and consider an individual’s decision to procede with suicide as a matter of self determination and bodily autonomy. I don’t regard suicide or suicidal thoughts as in any way pathological and abnormal, and staunchly oppose involuntary psychiatric treatment in all such instances - whether it be for myself, a family member, or members of society in general. If a friend or a family member wanted to proceed with suicide, I would take a neutral stance, listen to their thoughts, offer my own perspectives, and let them decide how they wanted to proceed. If someone dear to me died by suicide, obviously I would be upset, but my feelings or biases shouldn’t be imposed upon the right of another person to decide what to do with their own life. If anything, I really fail to see how confinement to a locked ward, combined with strip searches and use of restraints and forcible drugging with haloperidol - all standard practices in an inpatient psychiatric unit - would help anyone feel better. If anything, there is no evidence whatsoever that inpatient psychiatric treatment reduces the future risk of suicide. Recent meta-analyses of patient data has shown that inpatient psychiatric treatment seems to drastically elevate the risk of suicide attempts in both the short term and the long term. It seems morally and medically wrong to coercively impose invasive interventions that have no evidence of working. It’s even more disturbing when the national legislation permits civil confinement, even in the absence of effective treatment. With a background and policies like this, it’s no wonder that there’s stigma associated with mental illness and psychiatric treatment. What rational person would want a diagnosis that compromises their civil rights and places their sanity into question?!

Silver Hill saved my life, I did not stay in the Steward House, its a little above my means, but all their residential in-patient homes, are as homey and nice, and it's not just a glossy show, the therapeutic value of the program is unsurpassed. I have been in treatment about 4 times in 10 years, and SHH is the only time it actually stuck, the individual care I received, combined with being treated with respect and real care, made the difference for me. I will celebrate 2 years this coming Feb 11. I was admitted to SHH on 2/11/19, and have not had a drink, used a drug, or suffered from any real depression since coming home. I followed my aftercare plan that Brad Bloom and myself designed, my doctor, Dr. Greipp, was the absolute most caring, compassionate physician I have met, he actually comes to see his patients at the houses if he can't get to your questions during the normal business hours while under his care at SHH. I left there with a whole new lease on my life I am 50 years old and feel like I have the future of a 20-year-old like nothing is impossible now that I am clean and sober. I'm in college for the first time and get my first degree, and Associates in May, and have no plan on stopping there. Nobody asked me to write this, I am not being compensated in any way, other than the peace and freedom from addiction I have received with the help of Silver Hill Hospital, my own membership in Alcoholics Anonymous, my hard work, and of course God's help. I just happened upon this advertisement and had to write a review.

Sadly I only have medicaid and my understanding is that only medicare is accepted.
