I knew Rossi has experimented with polyphonic Jewish sacred music in Hebrew, but never listened to it before. While I think this style of music better suits and integrates with Latin (and the rest of the Jewish community actually preferred keeping in line with the tradition and still sing in psalmody), nonetheless it's an interesting listening.
Really like the scrolling score, gives an idea how it was like singing back then having to follow old-school notation with no barlines and in separate parts.
Wow, I've only heard this song performed by a female voice, but this man's voice, his masterful control are just amazing. Of course, I loved the tenors as well. Very touching and impactful interpretation! Thank you.
How did Rossi match his music to the specific phrases so perfectly? How? - I want to know. "He's a genius" only begs this question. This rendition is particularly, and bang-on-right, pungent. The psalm's deep emotions are well-served.
I came to this video after reading about Salamone Rossi and Leon Modena, a musical celebrity in Mantua at the time, working together on this piece, in a book called Shylock's Venice by Harry Freedman. Technology can be wonderful -- I didn't just have to wonder what this music sounded like, I could go to RU-vid and there it is! Thank you for this performance and for posting it.
Fantastic! Even better for Hebrew speakers who are versed in the texts as a fundamental part of our cultural identity. Have to admit though "Penta al ossna benot" sounds Latin :)

May I please ask how you did the notation for the score in the video? I've tried looking for programs to write scores in mensural notation, but I've yet to find any particularly good options.
