There can be no question that Bruckner understood the organ and its potential. His symphonies are NOT conceived for the organ any more than those for Mozart are. Had he wanted to create a symphony for the organ, then he would have composed it for the organ. He did write a quintet for strings, and it is very good. We get an insight into Bruckner. Yes, the organ is a great instrument for counterpoint, but there is great counterpoint for organ, string quartet, and for orchestra. They are not the same music. Bravo!
Lovely piece and beautifully played...it deserves to be heard more widely. I wonder whether this is the future of classical music? Progress seems to have hit a road block and maybe the way forward is to reverse and go back a bit to the Romantic era of music...music was so nice to listen to then!
Just wondering, should I attempt to learn this piece? So far, as a reference point to my skill level I am learning the Rachmanninoff Prelude in G minor. Great performance, by the way.
If you manage to learn that piece competently the Ballade is only ranked a small step up in difficulty (7 vs. 8 on a scale of 1-9). Why not? And thanks!

I started playing the piano by self learning the ballade no1 but it became really hard for my unaccustomed hands and so I sought out piece after piece in the last 5-6 years to improve. I'm definitely better than once I was but not enough to fully acknowledge my understanding of the piece but no doubt better than I was years ago. I will get there one day and so will you too, just keep on going and keep on getting motivated day by day

Als je deze muziek mooi vind raad ik je aan om de Vlaamse folkband ''t Kliekske' te beluisteren. Voor zover je die niet al kent, want iemand die Middeleeuwse volksmuziek hoort zal wellicht geen beginnende luisteraar zijn 😆
Hé, eindelijk. Ik was al aan het uitzoeken hoe ik mijn (origineel mijn moeders) kopie zelf kan digitaliseren en opladen. Ben opgegroeid met deze plaat.
Van welke generatie ben je als ik vragen mag? Ik van midden jaren '80. Dit was samen met de platen van 't Kliekske' en The Nice/Emerson, Lake & Palmer en uiteraard de standaardwerken van Beethoven en Brahms etc. ook waar ik mee ben opgegroeid.
¿Grabaron las sonatas para violín de Brahms? Si los tiene, adelante, pero súbalos a RU-vid para que otras personas también puedan disfrutarlos. Ni siquiera sabía que los grabaron.
I just added a wee bit of top end EQ and got rid of all bass rumble (most of which isn't even from the recording but comes from the turntable normally) but it probably makes the violin sound a lot better over headphones or earplugs. Also makes the occasional pops and clicks a wee bit worse though so it comes at an expense. Very basic shit to apply to classical LPs when digitalising them. Glad you like to hear the end result though!

Voor mij ongeveer de eerste echt kennismaking met oude muziek. misschien klinkt h et iets primitiever dan de huidige oudemuziek, maar het is me bijzonder dierbaar als ik het hoor.
Hoort tot mijn vroegste ervaringen op klassiek gebied, al kom ik zelf nét niet uit die tijd. Goede impressie hoe de muziek op straat, in de kroeg zal hebben geklonken, het meeste kennen we immers via kerken en koningen. Mooi document, denk ik- en klinkt lekker! Dank je voor het delen!
