Hi Ornament Girl... I came across this video and it brought back many fond memories of years ago... when I was first married over 50 years ago, my friends and I would meet at each other's houses and make these ornaments for hours... we use to donate them to charities for fundraising purposes... These ornaments do have a lot of bulk in the middle, which is why we recommend a larger embellishment in the center. It will hide all of those pins and bulk.

I wanted to do a bird with the top half in one color and bottom in a different color. I don’t see how to start and end. Does anyone have some directions
You can continue to do the scribble fold as far down the bird as you'd like. When you are ready to switch colors, just trim your fabric at the equator and start the new color in about the same spot. All the pins and raw edges will be hidden by the band.
I have been making these for approx 40 years. The original "pattern" that I saw was called "prairie folded ornament" but, over the years, I developed my own style and called them "Victorian Christmas ornaments". I started out with green/red/gold Christmas ribbons and decorated the tops with holly leaves and berries and a narrow ribbon bow. They became more ornate and more Victorian and sometimes a little shabby with long narrow ribbons draping over the sides. I loved doing these...they were easy to create as I listened to a TV show and they sold well at craft shows. I also custom-made them for friends in a solid color to match their decor.
